WRITES JAKOTAE OMORY FROM URIRI DISTRICT
Bitter exchange of words and issuing of threats have become synonymous at funeral places inside Uriri constituency and at a time the gathering is posing a breach of peace.
There is alarming increase in acts of secret political tete a tete and launching of scathing political attacks among the parliamentary hopefuls at the funeral places everywhere in Uriri constituency.
Recurring as the incidence is during the burial of the mum of George Ocholla who is a senior politician in the constituency at Obwongo Otuagi. Bloody violence almost erupted when other aspirants were being denied chances to speak after the incumbent had spoken under claims that the area DC had burned politics at funeral places.
An upcoming flamboyant youthful politician Mr Mark Nyamita a Nairobi based marketing manager for zain straight faced the area MP challenging him to account for some faulty disbursement of C.D.F funds non existing projects.
After forcefully grabbing microphone from the ceremony master Mr Obinju Owino a renown village comedian who was instructed by the area chief of Kamgundho not to give any politician microphone after the area MP had spoken .
On the very day Mr Nyamita receive a prolonged applause from mourners because he went on top gear to un earth very many shoddy scandalous deals in the existing C.D.F office .including a 200,000/= cheque written to non existing student and appealing for immediate disillusionment of the current C.D.F committee.
On the very occasion nearly everyone who is anyone “afait accompli” started discussing where the rain started beating us with some saying that some C.D.F committee members have since, become overnight millionaires through questionable means and suspicion that the government fund might have been embezzled.
Some continued that the area MP is said to have handpicked semi illiterate people and his cronies to be members of the committee, charged with the responsibilities of distributing the government money.
To crown it all what worsen the situation from bad to worse is the intelligible and unpalatable insulting answers the incumbent gave referring to both Owiny and Nyamita the complainant as his spare parts meaning their accusations are meaningless.

Could someone kindly ask our politicians to be sensitive enough to the feelings of the bereaved families and stop politics at funeral gatherings? It is known that the presence of many people at such gatherings, who would otherwise not attend political rallies is the guiding force behind making political speeches at funerals.
Even this issue of so many people making speeches when some will just be repeating what has alredy been said is a new culture that has to be discarded. You may find even some of the speakers attacking church officials who are conducting the ceremony for denying as many people as would like to speak at the funeral a chance to do so, forgetting that the ocassion is a burial ceremony and not a political rally.
Even the Provincial Administrators, who are normally given a chance to make some announcements, have taken the cue from the Politicians and turned the ceremony into a Chief’s baraza when asked to say something by making very long speeches, instead of just a few announcements. People need to change their attitude and realise that funeral gatherings are not wedding ocassions and should not be treated as if they were one.
Gentlemen,
whilst i support the idea that politicians should desist from using funerals as political podia to push for their agenda we must equally awake to the fact that there is nothing wrong with Civic education on pertinent issues being carried out in such fora.
we should equally stop confusing professionals contributing on issues affecting their community as aspiring politicians, every body corporate or individaul derives their charter to exist from the community they live in and therfore they are morally expected to give back to the same community either materially or otherwise and their positive contribution on key issues at various fora are no exceptions.
Members of parliament should equally desist from monopolizing functions – every community memeber has a right to speak their mind.
Regards,
Agwati – Agwati
they are too much miss appropriation of CDF fund distribution in the entire constituency. Mostly on the students of the area, the committee favors only the coming from their locations leaving others from other locations with nothing. The area MP Mr Ojwang’ Omollo should disbundle the illiterate committee and others assigned.
