Parents and education stakeholders at Maseno University are calling upon Higher Education Minister William Ruto to speedily intervene in regard to the questionable administrative status at the institution which has led to the resignation of six senior lecturers who are Bondo University bound.

Investigations done by “Weekly Citizen” has revealed that presently only lecturers with no experience or of very low qualification as the ones left and many within the institution wonder wonder who will lecture during the next semester which is to begin in September.

“There is no guarantee that we the few remaining ones will be here for long as its only a matter of time before we head elsewhere due to lack of academic vision by our Vice Chancellor Prof.Fredrick Onyango” said one of the few remaining lecturers there.

We can authoritatively reveal that among the most senior lecturers who have officially left the institution for Bondo University are; Prof. Francis Ang’awa, Prof, Joab Indushi, Prof. Judith Atiang’, Prof. Ouma George, Prof George Dindi and Prof. Monica Ayieko while the few remaining ones are on their way out as they’ve already been absorbed to other higher institutions of learning.

We further discovered that Prof. Onyango on learning about the mass exodus at ago, decided to convener “a kangaroo“ committee ostensibly to review and upgrade some of the lecturers to induce them not to leave a move they declined terming it as too late.

Prodded by this writer why they exited from Maseno, one of the lecturers said that as academicians of this country, they can not compromise their duty with patronage at the peril of the destruction of Maseno University.

“The V-C Prof Onyango seems to have given his back to academic programmers and instead opting to prioritize endless buildings and constructions at the institution whose major aim is to reward his construction company to do all that. If it’s such an institution what’s our business there?”One of the lecturers wondered.

Another reason we’ve discovered led to their exit is that whereas salaries paid in all public universities are the same, the V-C has failed to appreciate their services as he single handedly runs the institution and using the inexperienced lecturers as his errand boys.

“It really hurts that the V-C seem not to be interested in the main core of the institution of teaching and reassert activities but instead he has opted to do endless construction and awarding his cronies with positions” another lecturer added.

We can authoritatively reveal that another reason the lecturers are leaving the institution is failure by the university to pay them after teaching parallel program students and upon inquiry they are usually told that the money is used for all the construction work at the varsity while its evident that the said money is used to give handouts to mostly luo Members of Parliament who alleges that they are “protecting him” to continue being at the institution.

It can be recalled that Medical Services Minister Prof.Anyang’ Nyong’o in whose constituency the institution falls has always said that the institution is so “sterile “that it needs a real radical surgery an issue which has been supported by some section of lecturers who says that the institution has not given birth to any yet, Egerton, Moi, Kenyata and Nairobi are always opening branches.

The V-C is said that fear fear other centers because of the power he wields at Maseno as this will lead to the exposure of his financial activities which includes, the Kshs 300 million worth of the library which is to be constructed at the institution and a tender awarded to a company associated with him and the recent disappearing of kshs 42 million which was surprisingly transferred to an unknown destination.

“That colossal amount of money was transferred from the University’s Students account to Co-Operative account and we believe it was wired out of the country through the help of a senior bank officer based in Kisumu”one of the Finance Officers at Maseno admitted.

And with the expiry of the varsity’s council term, the V-C is presently using the Executive Council Committee to carry out his shoddy activities as he has written a letter which is in our possession to the out going Chairman of the Council Prof.Nimrod Bwibo to help him saying he has a lot of construction work to do and also promising him that should he remain then the entire council will remain yet he has done his two terms.

Many are calling upon Minister Ruto to urgently move in to help selvedge the institution.
