Kenya: civic education

By Agwanda Powerman.

A Non Governmental Organisation in Kisumu city has embarked on a massive civic education among the youth to encourage them to participate fully in the implementation of the new constitution.

Cities in Partnership with Communities (CIPAC) Programme Co-ordinator Fred Opundo says they will continue engaging with the youth to push for the implementation of the new law.

Opundo says they started the civic education during the making of the new constitution and will not stop at the passage of the new constitution but to soldier on to empower the youth on their role in the new law.

Speaking at Kibuye Catholic Church hall in Kisumu where they organised a one day civic education that brought over 100 youths in Kisumu, Opundo called upon the youth not to relax after the passage of the new law.

CIPAC programme officer Peter Ohon says the organisation is keen on impacting skills into the youth to participate in matters of governance at the local level.

Ohon says the new law will allow for resources to be devolved at the counties and the youth must be well equipped to monitor the usage of such funds.

He further says the new law has opened many opportunities for women and called upon them to rise up and compete for special positions that were created in the new law.

Ends.

I have written a new book entitled, THE PANACEA FOR KENYA’S WOES, which I believe has invaluable information for your organization and the public in general. The book takes stock of Kenya in three fronts; politics, economy and social life. It traces the path the country has followed since independence and shows its grave consequences. The author then prescribes a path rarely travelled that will lead our country to her destiny. He points out that good governance anchored on the rule of law is the answer to our myraid problems.
He highlights qualities of good governance and admonishes the electorate to utilize the grand opportunity provided by the new constitution to transform the country for good. Please contact the author for any queries or for your copy.
