I asked my wife to consider me for such a gift at my next birthday. Though I am Bahai. She refered me to Corinthians I, Chapter 7 which makes sense. Yet I still prefer this gift. What do you think? Joram Ragem

Could you make love to your husband every day for a year?

On the eve of her husband’s 40th birthday, Charla Muller told him that his present was going to be sex with her every day for a year. It was a gift that made them face some uncomfortable truths.

Dear All Good People,

Of course being learned is being schooled, usually academic credentials. In Kenya, usually when one goes to school upto college level they are losely referred to as learned. Acquisition of skills through training, etc is what learning is all about.

Being educated on the other hand is holistic including, but not limited to: the adaptive ability to fit within the society and to appreciate the envirnment within which one finds oneself. Rememeber there are so many learned people whe are uneducated and the reverse is true! You remember the saying: “…a child educated only at school is uneducated child..” Being educated enables one to appreciate humanity and avoid being engaged in condescending attitude approach to people especially when one thinks one has higher academic achievements.

In brief, being educated is virtue one learns both within and without a school set up. A professor who is a night runner is uneducated, an illiterate person who knows his limits and can cohesively live with others is educated.

You should note that schooling, predisposes one to appreciate issues better. Ordinarily therefore, lerned people are expected to act educated. You are therefore encouraged to go to school. However, remember, “education is not a perfect vaccine to stupidity.” Have you ever wondered how some learned people utter or do silly things including inciting people against other ethnicities?

Have I beeen useful? Are you know learned and educated? Be the judge.

Faithfully,

Sam Ongoro

It is the other way round.

To be educated is not to be learned.

When one is learned he or she acquires skills beyond the education (which is the scholastic course of study) and can relate or is expected to relate informatively than someone who is educated who acquires the highest scholastic instructional course But fails to put their education into perspective i.e. to be practical in terms of leadership or in participation of some sort or be seen as informed by having sound judgement on issues and deliberations.

Here Sam is right… One can be educated without being schooled… Like the Swahili say, Asiyefunzwa na mamaye, hufunzwa na ulimwengu…This is education they are talking about aka Streetwiseness…

Dr. Makodingo,

And in english Wisdom is calling – in otherwords you dont need to go to school to be wise. To go to school is to get the basics verbatim of communication. So you build those basics through practice to perfect in different areas.

This means Wise men are few. In otherwords Learned People are few, but the Educated lots are many. Katika Chuo la wengi watu hukosa busara bila muelekeo ikawa ni Mass (bendera ya fuata upepo). Lakini katika Chuo la wachache, watu hu makinika kwa lengo na nia kisha wavumbua muelekezo (njia). This is in general terms.

Again it depends on what circumstance Sam is relating his story. In Sams deliberation, I picked this quote from his words “the adaptive ability to fit within the society and to appreciate the envirnment within which one finds oneself”, which I asumed was the Subject of his story. The Society and the Environment is a continuous model structure can be shaped for good or camouflaged for bad. Depending on the players and technicalities involved. I mean it all depends on the engineered Educated lots and the Learned lots (the informed).

So the choice will depend on how each manouvres their art in displaying performance. Common knowledge will determin which way to go. Common knowledge here, is the force directed by wisdom, the wise. The wise here are the learned. Knowledge is acquired just like education. Information is the knowledge acquired. Information is to be Leaned. So what do you do with the information you have learned (or acquired). you put it to practice, you participate. That is what makes the difference. But, I stand challenged.

Where is the standing? Please enlighten?

LUO ” ELITES” IN SHOW OF MIGHT IN CITY PUB

BY JEFF OTIENO IN KISUMU

Some clique of Luo professionals working and residing in Nairobi are molesting and harassing clients in a city pub ( KUCHE KUCHE ) situated in the precincts of Nyayo National stadium Nairobi with glee.

Following persistent complaints from regular clients of that joint this Journalist decided to sojourn there to unearth the aggression of the chest thumping clique most of them Lecturers, Consultants, Insurance Executives with traces of marital glitches.

Inside the main tent there’s an exclusive table preserved for these clique of chest thumpers. Interestingly, the zone housing about four tables have no reservation indicators to may be restrain or direct first timers who could be nursing interests to sit in the “exclusive area.”

In a view to provoke the tormenting cartel, in the company of other two colleagues this Journalist decided to go there a little bit early and sat deliberately in the “exclusive zone”.

A waiter who seems to be working in conduit with the “elitists” group came to us running and on reaching just ordered us to stand up and go to where we ” belong”.

“You don’t belong here stand up and go to another table”, she thundered without even having the decorum to even welcome us as their clients.

We stood our ground to the chagrin of the bragging group who had come and had sat in the next table (zone) where they feel they don’t belong.

We could see them arguing who we were. A bid by another waiter who is part of the clique to make us bow to their demands was thwarted by a level headed bouncer who adviced them otherwise.

Sources confided to this scribe that the said cartel have no grass root structures in their rural homes and they hardly frequent. Though they are said to be proud owners of state of the art homes in the heart of the capital.

Why Should Christians pray, support and vote for Senator Barrack Obama?

By Rev Okoth Otura

Toronto-Canada

As the American citizens head for the poll this coming November 2008, there are a number of factors that the Christians across the world might expect them to consider before casting their votes.

• More importantly, will the next President of America protect Israel and foster peaceful navigation for the world crisis?

• Will the next President of America positively influence and back the magnitude of social and humanitarian programs being ran by the Christian Faith based Organizations?

• Will the next President of America Broker peace and confront the general distrust of the growing tensions between different religious in USA and the World?

CDM-K however, sees Senator Obama as a believer of the Cross of Jesus Christ, who as openly confessed Christ as his Lord and savior and therefore we feel that he can bring about solidarity between the US and the World at a time when the world desperately needs solidarity to deal with war, terrorism, social issues, diseases, poverty and ignorance.

Senator Obama is the right choice who can promote the Christian-democratic perspective in the USA and maybe across the world, for he has demonstrated his faith and hope in the Lord Jesus Christ in all his relationship and work with the church and communities.

CDMK is convinced that Senator Obama can bolster and actively generate Christian-Social and political solutions that can contribute to the well-being of the global village.

CDMK believes that Jesus Christ calls us to follow Him in every area of our lives, including the realm of politics and therefore, since the Americans still lack a true Christian Political Party, Senator Obama deserves their prayers, support and their votes.

The CDMK also believes the Bible is certainly not a political program but the teachings of Jesus, nevertheless, it provides the fundamental elements for just governance, political authorities, including those in power now, are called to work in this spirit and serve the people of God in their pursuit for justice and freedom.

CDMK recognizes that the Kingdom of God cannot be simply identified with any political cause; but we affirm that it demands the pursuit of just government and the promotion of a well-ordered society, the same quality which Senator Obama has demonstrated in his lifestyle and campaign trails speeches.

CDMK rejects the idea that religion is merely the individual’s private affair. The Christian faith has been fundamental to North America and world society and is irreplaceable. Christian faith influences and shapes the character of humankind, the said which Senator Obama publicly has confessed.

Hence, CDMK bear a responsibility to affirm our prayers and support to Senator Obama in accordance with our understanding of his approach and commitment to transform Christian-Social political principles in the US government.

For the above mentioned reasons, we therefore appeal for all the Christian Political and faith based organization leadership across the world to pray and support Senator Obama.

CDMK further humbly appeal for the entire Evangelical and any other Christian faith-based organization in USA to vote for Senator Barrack Obama this coming November 2008 as the next President of the United States.

Re: Baraza La Maendeleo, A Idea For Prosperity.

Dear All,

I have an idea I have called  ‘a gathering for prosperity’ or Baraza La Maendeleo, and some of my friends asked for a proposal. So here below I have written it in a simple form. I share this idea at no cost with everyone I know, wherever they are, and ask that if you find this idea useful, that you in turn share it with others. Better still, you can start, or if existing, continue your Baraza La Maendeleo, but proceed with more meaning and purpose.

Indeed the idea of saving money in a merry-go-round fashion among friends is not  new. However, I have not seen it done with the suggestions I have made. Still, being in the  Independence Day spirit, I allow you to use my suggestions for free, without even remembering where they came from, provided you begin to save and invest.

To my East African community members in Tallahassee, look out for my invitation for our inauguration of our Baraza La Maendeleo.

Thanks
Dan Oronje.
Tallahasee, FL.

—————————

Preamble:

Many immigrants are finding themselves drifting further and further away from the real hope they had when they first landed in these United States, in pursuit of the American dream.

Calling:

In order to achieve real peace, happiness and prosperity, and successfully upgrade our survival status in these United States of America, a call is made to all men  and women within and without their community to congregate frequently in a Baraza La Maendeleo or A Gathering For Prosperity.

Purpose:

Other than the very much needed socialization, we must candidly talk as we educate ourselves in topics that we have traditionally avoided discussing with one another, including investment. Investment for this purpose will solely mean using money with intent to make/receive more money in return.

Process:

Two or more like-minded persons shall gather in a Baraza La Maendeleo, each with  a minimum of $10.00 contribution for the purpose of investing. At the toss of a  coin, a decision will be made as to who would be given the total of the money harvested for the day also called Mavuno. If more than two people are involved, a drawing with numbers 1, 2, 3, etc., will be made and followed to determine the sequence of the beneficiaries. The lucky individual will be mandated to invest the harvested money or Mavuno and report to the next Baraza La Maendeleo, for grilling or praise.

Agenda Format:

In the next Baraza La Maendeleo:

i) A report will be given by the previous beneficiary of Mavuno, to inform the attendees how he or she invested it.

ii) Attendees will criticize (positively or negatively), on whether the previous  beneficiary of Mavuno invested or whether he or she merely used the money for upkeep.

iii) If attendees criticize negatively, they must in turn give ideas on how the previous Mavuno could have been invested. This is to educate or help or challenge one another to master the discipline needed to use money to maker more money.

iv) Date and venue for the next gathering of Baraza La Maendeleo will be agreed upon.

v) Discussion or presentation of today’s topic will be made. (See suggested topics for Baraza La Maendeleo below).

Note: The process of Baraza La Maendeleo must be repeated each session in order to use time efficiently, so as to effectively achieve the goal and purpose of this idea.

Commandments:

1. Baraza La Maendeleo will have no leadership structure. (I think the reason why most partnerships, corporations and organizations collapse is not only due to mistrust or lack of leadership, but also due to fights against leadership or ambition to assume leadership).

2. Participants must send their share of Mavuno to each gathering of Baraza La Maendeleo, even when they would be absent.

3. Participants may be represented by their proxy to any gathering of Baraza La Maendeleo, 4. Once the number of participants reaches 12, the participants reserve the right of admission for any new member.

5. Each Baraza La Maendeleo shall not discriminate against ethnic, race, religion, nationality, creed, political affiliation, etc., against any new members.

6. Once a participant of a Baraza La Maendeleo, one may only cease participation  with the number of months’ notice corresponding to the number of participants in that Baraza La Maendeleo.

7. No money will be held by the Baraza La Maendeleo since there is no treasurer.  See commandment # 1.

8. Each attendee of a gathering of Baraza La Maendeleo will be punctual and use time wisely, recognizing that effective management of time and not necessarily investment is the main key to progress.

9. Socialize. Yes, socialize any which way your Baraza La Maendeleo agrees is appropriate.

10. No participant of a gathering of Baraza La Maendeleo is allowed to be disrespectful or disorderly. No gathering of Baraza La Maendeleo should allow any participant to leave the gathering while drunk.

11. Make sure your expenditure for socialization in any gathering of Baraza La Maendeleo is less not more than Mavuno.

12. No gathering of Baraza La Maedeleo should be constituted by persons 20 years  old or younger.

Suggested topics of discussion:

During a gathering of Baraza La Maendeleo, it is commanded that a topic is discussed.

This topic should be picked at the previous gathering. Suggested topics that are  in line with the purpose of this idea include, but not limited to:

– How to come to the USA legally,
– Ho to stay in the USA legally,
– How to write your will,
– How to buy a car,
– How to avoid foreclosure,
– How to eliminate credit debt,
– How to buy a house,
– How to select the best type of loan (Specify whether Student, Auto, Home, Business)
– How to select the best college for yourself or child,
– How to keep taxes low,
– How to stay healthy,
– How to live with your wife or husband in happiness,

– How to best raise a teenage daughter in USA
– How to best raise a teenage son in USA,
– How to buy stock,
– How to propose to a lady or gentleman,
– How to start a business
– How to plan, save and enjoy a vacation,
– How to start a corporation,
– How to improve your home.
– How to sell your home,
– How to buy other property,
– How to buy life, home, medical or legal insurance,
– How to run for office in these United States of America,

———Any many others.

Conclusion:

Turn your next social gathering into a meeting of purpose — that which will allow you to learn, prosper and teach your friend not only to survive in these United States of America, but also give them independence from living hand to mouth, which I still do.

May we all prosper and realize the American Dream.

Thanks.

Dan Oronje.

Mr. Ochogo,

This idea qualifies for my statement of ‘How Good Can A Good Thing
Be,’ which Judith Onyango, Nyakwar Odanga would say “go ahead! translate it”
– ‘Gima Ber To Ber Nade?’

My 10th great grandfather Ragem, also gives it a ‘thumbs up’ in his own way.
Hopefully it will help us refocus lest we forget to do the
needful, especially when the fire in politics are as hot as the none
luminous flame, or as we  risk being contended that thinks are getting
better just because we are now in a ‘coalition.’

Thanks for prodding our minds and particularly, for sharing. I have tried
to say the same in my own way in the past. Be encouraged, simple ides are
what builds greater accomplishments.

Dr Ben Carson Honoured by Bush

http://www.adventistreview.org/article.php?id=1944
Bush Bestows Freedom Medal on Ben Carson

BY ELIZEBETH LECHLEITNER, Adventist News Network

An Adventist pioneer in pediatric neurosurgery who overcame childhood poverty and achieved worldwide renown received the highest civilian award bestowed by the United States government.

On June 19, Dr. Benjamin S. Carson Sr. was awarded the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom for his outstanding contributions to medicine and his motivating influence on America’s young people, U.S. President George W. Bush said during a morning ceremony in the East Room of the White House.

Perhaps best known for his successful efforts in separating conjoined twins and controlling brain seizures in children, Carson is chief of pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins University Medical Institutions in Baltimore, Maryland. The inner city Detroit, Michigan native overcame a “grim future” of poverty, crime, and violence to become “a scholar, a healer, and a leader,” Bush told the audience of cabinet members, Congressional representatives, and medal recipients and their families. “For his skills as a surgeon, his high moral standards, and his dedication to helping others, I am proud to bestow this honor,” Bush said.

U.S. President George W. Bush, right, shakes hands with Dr. Benjamin Carson Thursday June 19 after presenting him with the 2008 Presidential Medal of Freedom during a ceremony in the East Room of the White House. Bush commended Carson for his skills in the operating room and his commitment to developing the nation’s young people. [Photo: David Bohrer/The White House]

The soft-spoken Carson later told Adventist News Network that while national recognition is “obviously very nice,” he feels like he’s “just along for the ride.”

“You basically put everything in the Lord’s hands, and he just guides your life,” Carson said. “It’s always been amazing to me, the things He’s made possible.”

During the ceremony, Bush singled out Carson’s mother, Sonya, who–seated near Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and former Senator Bob Dole–stood to receive the president’s welcome. “Some moms are simply forces of nature who never take ‘no’ for an answer,” Bush said. “I understand,” he added, alluding to his own mother and eliciting laughter from the audience.

Sonya, a single parent of two sons, Bush explained, required the young Carson and his brother to check out library books and write weekly reports on them. Never letting on that she couldn’t read the reports, Sonya would mark and return them, knowing education was her sons’ best opportunity, he said.

Bush praised Carson and his wife, Candy, for founding The Carson Scholars Fund, Inc. , a non-profit national scholarship fund that promotes similar academic achievement by recognizing and rewarding students in grades 4-11 who demonstrate academic excellence and commitment to community.

“Our nation is falling so far behind technologically,” Carson told ANN, adding that advocating education is his first priority these days. The medal, he said, gives him “a chance to promote not only academic achievement, but also the humanitarian qualities and values I think are so crucial to society. I’ve felt for many years that the Lord gave me this spectacular medical career as a platform for this.”

“We congratulate Dr. Carson on this singular honor,” General Conference President Jan Paulsen said in a statement. “His service to humanity models the values and quality of life expressed by our church around the globe.”

Established by President Harry S. Truman in 1945 to honor service during World War II, the medal’s purpose was expanded by President John F. Kennedy in 1963 to include leaders in medicine, government, and the judiciary, as well as the military. The annual award is bestowed by the U.S. president to those who have made a “meritorious contribution” to the nation, a statement by the White House Press Secretary said yesterday.

Carson, who first intended to be a missionary doctor, told ANN he once worried switching to neurosurgery would mean an end to outreach. “I said, ‘Lord, neurosurgeons are always in the operating room–they don’t talk to anyone,'” Carson remembered with a laugh. “But He worked it out.”

Eric suffered a stroke not too long ago before the sudden death of his beloved wife. Without a consistent source of income, he currently depends on relatives for financial support, rehabilitation and recovery.

I cannot emphasize enough how critical your support is for his family at this time of dire need. We are doing everything possible to ensure that Eric continues to get medical help which he really needs. Anything you can do to help, no matter how little, will go a long way to help and will be greatly appreciated.

Fund-raising get-together will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Gladys Ndinya’s apartment. Address: 2821, South Wakefield Street Apt.F, Arlington, VA, 22206 (mapquest or GPS can be used for traveling directions) Tel: 703-465-0143, cell:703-395-1887, or cell:202-730-5500.

Thank you in advance for all your support. Our collective effort will make a difference. May God bless you all.

Sincerely,
Gladys Ndinya, Ruth Odia and Tom Olago

Matthew 25:35-40
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.

Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?

When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?

The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”

Thank you so much for your input.

Dear Lucy,

I hope you are doing well. It is long time since we communicated. However, I would like to break the good news to you.

On behalf of SIDAREC’s board, management, staff and community members, I am pleased to inform you that SIDAREC has been announced the overall winner of the coveted Architecture For Humanity Global Challenge 2007. The announcement was made in South Africa during the World Economic Forum.

This award is a great achievement for the organization since it means that an elaborate Community Media lab will be constructed for SIDAREC at Mukuru Kwa Njenga resource centre complete with a Community library, computer training center, internet cafe, pay phone area, day care centre, recording studio, and recreational field. It’s instructive to note that SIDAREC emerged winner out of 566 projects from 57 countries around the world that had placed their bids.

For more information about the award, I have attached a Press release. Otherwise I wish to thank you for believing and having faith in SIDAREC’s efforts through your support.

RE: sympathy to poor Kenyans

as per education is concern, I have realized that it is only meant for the rich families who are finically stable but not the poor peasant like I myself who managed to get B.(plain)with 66 point but being left by cut point. but the other students who sat the same examination the following year (20006)went to university with even 64 points. I am really disturbed in mind of what to do. let me asked you one question are we living in the same Kenya or there are other people are so special than the others?.If at all the government wanted to lower points so that they could help the poor Kenyan in education prosperity why could they start by giving chance for the old suffering students before promoting the less fit students who sat examination just yesterday. and for that kenya will never be developed if this kind corruption is still going on in the country. what surprised me a lot the fact the student from rich family are prospering but the poor ones remains extinct. please for those are concerned may you do something to cater for the poor students
