KANU MAN TO FUND RAISE FOR YOUTHS

KANU MAN TO FUND RAISE FOR YOUTHS

BY JEFF OTIENO

A Nairobi based business magnet, Tom Onyango Alila pictured, who is also a KANU Politician, is slated to conduct a massive funds drive in aid of Emuhaya Constituency Youths on December 12th 2009.

Emuhaya professionals, led by media executive Tom Alwaka, confirmed to the press that Alila has been ear marked as the chief guest in a funds drive aimed at empowering youths, and promoting sports in the area.

Tom Onyango Alila

Alila, who has of late been criss crossing the political terrains, gearing up to brace for a fight with KANU National Chairman, Uhuru Kenyatta, and his Vice Chairman, Gedion Moi, for the party chairmanship, to be held soon, recently confided that his quest will not be jeopardized by anybody, arguing that KANU needs a fresh start to revamp its lost glory, which he alleged has suffered at the hands of less committed party leaders.

Alila is the Ndhiwa branch KANU Chairman, and recently embarked on a vigorous sensitization exercise in Nyanza and Western Regions, where he sponsored party members for discussions, with a view of getting away forward for the former ruling party.

END.

RE: EMERGENCY MEDICAL AND HOSPITAL BILL FUNDRAISING IN AID OF MY ELDER BROTHER, PETER ONYANGO BONYO

Subject: RE: EMERGENCY MEDICAL AND HOSPITAL BILL FUNDRAISING IN AID OF MY ELDER BROTHER, PETER ONYANGO BONYO

Dear Friends,

I greet you all.

May I bring to your attention the unique health experience I have been shouldering and that now need input from all my friends and relatives wherever they are.

My elder brother Peter, once a prominent lawyer in Nairobi, lost his job after getting into financial crisis in his law firm. This led to him being struck off the Roll of Advocates in september 2004.

In January 2009, he experienced a severe mental depression that led to him experiencing his first episode of schizophrenia. I admitted at him at Dr. Frank Njenga’s Chiromo Lane Medical Center in 11th January 2009 where he stayed until 31st January 2009 incurring a bill of Kshs. 139,000. So far I have paid Kshs. 103,000 single handedly.

On 27th July 2009, the case recurred and this time round it was quite acute. I took him to Kisii Level 5 Hospital Ward 10 where he is admitted to date. In the meantime, I have tried to address core c challenges that frequently lead him to nerval breakdown. The bill is now standing at Kshs. 50,000 and I will need a firther Kshs. 50,000 to reinstate him into Legal Practice as a long-term intervention to help check his depression permanently.

Please, contribute any amount that GOD might allow you via M-Pesa on Telephone Numbers: 0717 71 33 04/ 0724 752 458.

There will be a mini fundraising on 3rd September 2009 at Vesba Eating House at Development House, Mezzanine Floor along Moi Avenue in Nairobi starting 5:30pm.

You are most welcome,

Yours sincerely,

There must be a sustained effort to listen to each other; to learn from each other; to respect one another; and to seek common ground.’

This message came at the very right time in the history of the world.

In all corners, people are not saying openly the things they hold dear in their hearts. Even in Kenya, we do not say openly the things that we hold dear in our hearts. In many cases, we engage in double-speak.

At KCDN, we have decided to talk very openly about the things we hold dear and such was the occasion when we hosted the 2nd Edition of the KCDN Peace Run/Walk yesterday the 13th June 2009.
DO 1 Nairobi East District Mr. Nyenje, stood in for the DC Nairobi East District and his message was that of hope. He let the people know that is spreading the message of peace, national healing and reconciliation, institutions such as KCDN were doing the right thing.

He confirmed that the presence of the Band from the Administration Police was enough indication that even at the Police Force, they also want a peaceful country. Their presence in taking part in the procession must be seen as a sure move in the direction of engaging the masses in seeking a lasting solution to peace, national healing and reconciliation.

He then invited our main celebrant Bishop Dr Julius Mbagaya, President of the Baptist Convention who led the people in reciting a short prayer.

Mr Nyenge then flagged off the procession which was ably led by the Administration Police Band under the Command of Insp. Mwangi. We left the field, turned into Spine Road, went up to Kenol Petrol Station, turned right into Komarock, went up to Car Wash, turned right and headed back to the field. The procession took us 44 minutes.
Back at the field, we had several small games and acrobatic troupes. We had games like; kati, rounders, bano, egg race, skipping rope competition, tag-of-war. The most interesting was bano where Mr. Sylvester Ogola, the student leader from Masinde Muliro University came out the winner.

With the sports and entertainments done, we introduced the rest of our guests to the people. In attendance we had Mr. Elijah Kombo from Bidii and New Vision Africa, Mr. George Nyongesa and Jacob Odipo from Bunge La Mwananchi, Sylvester Ogola the President Masinde Muliro University Students, Mr. David Muriuki from Sauti Moja Kenya, Mr. Chris Kariaku and Mr. Francis Mwangi Chege from the League of Young Professionals, Ms. Caroline Ndungi from Komarocks Residents Association, Ms. Mellen Kinaru the Secretary General Komarocks Residents Association, Mr. Wilfred Kagiri and Mr. Norman Chomba from The Voice Movement, Rev. Johnson Kanyenje The Vicar ACK Komarock [Good Samaritan] and he was accompanied by Mr. Cyrus Mbogo Ireri. Our main guest was Bishop Dr. Julius Mbagaya, the President of the Baptist Convention in Kenya.

Rev Kanyenje told the people to preach peace across the board and use occasions such as what KCDN had done, to help spread the word. He urged people to live as brothers and sisters in the firm knowledge that we are one people.

In his powerful presentation, Bishop Mbagaya paused the question; where is the problem in Kenya? Is it the politicians? Is it the Government? Is it the professionals? Or is it the people? He absolved the Government by looking at how Government makes appointment after vetting based on known academic and other known creteria. He looked at the politicians and returned a verdict of not guilty. They are so few; only 210, and they are elected by the people.

He then zeroed on the people. We are the problem in Kenya. We are given an opportunity every 5 years and we vote in people who cannot make a difference for Kenya. Time has come when the people must wake up and lead the process. Time has come when the people must also have a vetting process that outlines the calibre of leaders that we vote for.

We must vet the leadership that we want. Like it happens to computers, garbage in begets garbage out. When we vote for people who have stolen from State Corporation, Government Departments, or people who have criminal and theft cases pending across the courts in Kenya, we must not expect anything better in return.
Once a thief always a thief. We will only be giving then more leverage at stealing. Hence time has come for Kenyans to wake up. The time is now, the hour has come and we must all join hands to save Kenya.

We then ended our day by joining in the Komarock Peace Declaration herein attached.

Thank you all for having come in those large numbers to make this day a success. Thanks also to all those who supported us in realizing this dream.

Let us meet at the 3rd Edition of the KCDN Peace Run/Walk next year.

Subject: PROPOSAL WRITING AND FUNDRAISING WORKSHOP FROM 27TH-29TH MAY 2009 AT THE SCHOOL OF MONETARY STUDIES, THIKA ROAD

Dear Partner,

INVITATION TO THE PROPOSAL WRITING AND FUNDRAISING WORKSHOP FROM 27TH-29TH MAY 2009 AT THE SCHOOL OF MONETARY STUDIES, THIKA ROAD

Organized By: CAPACITY CONCERNS AFRICA AND PURPLE IMAGES PRODUCTIONS

Training Brief Description:

Development organizations depend on fund raising skills and effective project management to survive. In the absence of good ideas and skilled proposal development staff and effective project management, most organizations cannot survive beyond ONE year. Public perceptions about the excesses and big consumerism by the International NGOs and the United Nations Staff is only a mirage to thousands of struggling indigenous organizations that contribute immensely to poverty and disease eradication.

The truth of the matter is that programme and fund raising officers work tirelessly to keep their organizations afloat. In the absence of good ideas, effective fund raising skills and strategies most organizations will not grow and will collapse in the formative years. The key most important skill that an organization must have is an effective fund raising manager. Fund raising in the development sector is a very competitive and equally labor intensive . CBOS/ NGOs like businesses must therefore market themselves and have innovative and effective strategies for success. During the fund raising activities, there are key skills and tips that programme officers must learn to win grants especially in the call for proposals. Effective project management skills ensures sustainability for projects.

Capacity Concerns Africa and Purple Images Productions have identified proposal writing as a REAL need among many organizations in Kenya and have dedicated time and energy for capacity building in this critical area. Program officers attending the course will get hands on skills in the following areas;

1. Concepts in Project development and management

2. Needs Assessment, Project Development and Proposal writing

3. Innovative Project strategies in Project funding processes

4. Skills necessary in successful fund raising Activities

5. Succeeding or losing a Grant: Mastering the politics of fund raising in Kenya

6. Effective networking with NGO/CBO partners as a tool for fund raising

7. Work Plan Development

8. Budget Development

9. Introduction to Monitoring and Evaluation
