What happened in Douala

I stumbled upon your article regarding the plane crash in Douala. While most of the info is correct, there’s just one error. The plane was not being flown in VFR conditions. The conditions were IMC (Instrument meteorological conditions) meaning the flight was being flown IFR. Keep up the good work though.

Re: Understanding the unfairness in our world!

In my lonely moments of leg sitting, I have often found my mind in the world of wonderland trying very hard to understand the unfairness in our world that is daily practiced by those who supposedly ought to know better!

The following continue to puzzle me!

1. Why we smile and pretend that all is well between us and some people when deep in our hearts we know without any doubts that we dislike/hate them with passion!

2.Why we become jealousy of other people’s apparent success when this world has got plenty of opportunities for everyone to pursue!

3.Why we condemn the same things that we do!

4.Why we condemn some people for doing the same things that we either approve or say less when it’s done by either our family members or friends!

5.Why some of us certainly become arrogant and decide looking down upon others when money start dripping in!

6. Why we work so hard on spreading rumors and refuse to recognize certain churches and then turn around and request for their hand in times of need!

7.How come that the proponents of forgiveness are the same fellows who knowingly cause pain and torture in the same people that they are now literally forcing forgiveness from them!

8.Why some people are always at the front line, involving themselves in every event not so much because they care but rather to be seen or heard!

9.Why many of us fail to understand that in the end, we’ll all end in the grave with basically nothing!

Well, do I expect any answers to any of the above! May be not! All I have purposed in my heart is to pray that I do the right things daily so as to avoid affecting others! How about you!

An award of Doctorate degree to Kalonzo a slap on Kenyans!

An award of Doctorate degree to Kalonzo a slap on Kenyans!

I am terribly shocked that there is a misinformed university in our world that can award an honorary doctorate degree to Kalonzo Musyoka and erroneously praise him for “acting with love for fellow Kenyans by accepting to be part of a coalition government”.

Honorary degrees are normally conferred for distinguished contributions to a specified field or society in general. That leads me to inquire: besides Kalonzo’s involvement in Sudan’s peace negotiation, which was a duty requirement of Kenya’s foreign affairs boss at that time, can the university or Kalonzo himself tell us the successes of his personal peace initiatives? Universities are a mirror of societies; is it true that Kenyans would vote favorably that Kalonzo is a peace-maker?

In a world revolving on uninterrupted information flow, how can the American University award a doctorate of divinity to Kalonzo’s unpatriotic, self serving and opportunistic acts of joining Kibaki’s illegitimate government, crafted after disputed election results?

Is this an attempt at sanitizing Kalonzo or an addition of useless credentials that he will use to haunt Kenyans in quest for president come 2012 general elections? In the politics of honorary degrees, some universities are known to dish out their degrees in exchange for political favors or donations; Kalonzo’s doctorate is suspect and a mockery to Kenyans.

improper land deal

Dear All,

Kenya: Illegally acquired land on sale: Stop it!

We can reliably inform you from Bunge la Mwananchi grass root forums that one of the top 3 Coalition government leaders is in the process of disposing a piece of land of 3.6 acreage at the cost of K.Shs. 76 million. The property is situated off Mbagathi way in Kibera area, a short distance from the main gate of the Nyayo Highrise Estate – right in the neighbourhood of the area Chief’s office.

Isn’t this government land? I am not able to confirm if it is, but I do know that the government has on many occasions alluded to the Kibera slums land as though it were. How did this politically correct individual since Moi’s government acquire this land? Was it legal? Has the very imminent threat of the implementation of the Ndung’u land report triggered the hasty decision of disposal?

We are putting out this information to mobilize fellow Kenyans and anti-corruption crusaders to stop the sale and reclaim the property to Kenyans!

He ventured forth to bring light to the world.

He ventured forth to bring light to the world. The anointed one’s pilgrimage to the Holy Land is a miracle in action – and a blessing to all his faithful followers By – Gerard Baker

And it came to pass, in the eighth year of the reign of the evil Bush the Younger (The Ignorant), when the whole land from the Arabian desert to the shores of the Great Lakes had been laid barren, that a Child appeared in the wilderness.

The Child was blessed in looks and intellect. Scion of a simple family, offspring of a miraculous union, grandson of a typical white person and an African peasant. And yea, as he grew, the Child walked in the path of righteousness, with only the occasional detour into the odd weed and a little blow.

When he was twelve years old, they found him in the temple in the City of Chicago, arguing the finer points of community organisation with the Prophet Jeremiah and the Elders. And the Elders were astonished at what they heard and said among themselves: “Verily, who is this Child that he opens our hearts and minds to the audacity of hope?”

In the great Battles of Caucus and Primary he smote the conniving Hillary, wife of the deposed  King Bill the Priapic and their barbarian hordes of Working Class Whites.

And so it was, in the fullness of time, before the harvest month of the appointed year, the Child ventured forth – for the first time – to bring the light unto all the world.

He travelled fleet of foot and light of camel, with a small retinue that consisted only of his loyal disciples from the tribe of the Media. He ventured first to the land of the Hindu Kush, where the  Taleban had harboured the viper of al-Qaeda in their bosom, raining terror on all the world.

And the Child spake and the tribes of Nato immediately loosed the Caveats that had previously bound them. And in the great battle that ensued the forces of the light were triumphant. For as long as the Child stood with his arms raised aloft, the enemy suffered great blows and the threat of terror was no more.

From there he went forth to Mesopotamia where he was received by the great ruler al-Maliki, and al-Maliki spake unto him and blessed his Sixteen Month Troop Withdrawal Plan even as the imperial warrior Petraeus tried to destroy it.

And lo, in Mesopotamia, a miracle occurred. Even though the Great Surge of Armour that the evil Bush had ordered had been a terrible mistake, a waste of vital military resources and doomed to end in disaster, the Child’s very presence suddenly brought forth a great victory for the forces of the light.
And the Persians, who saw all this and were greatly fearful, longed to speak with the Child and saw that the Child was the bringer of peace. At the mention of his name they quickly laid aside their intrigues and beat their uranium swords into civil nuclear energy ploughshares.

From there the Child went up to the city of Jerusalem, and entered through the gate seated on an ass. The crowds of network anchors who had followed him from afar cheered “Hosanna” and waved great palm fronds and strewed them at his feet.

In Jerusalem and in surrounding Palestine, the Child spake to the Hebrews and the Arabs, as the Scripture had foretold. And in an instant, the lion lay down with the lamb, and the Israelites and Ishmaelites ended their long enmity and lived for ever after in peace.

As word spread throughout the land about the Child’s wondrous works, peoples from all over flocked to hear him; Hittites and Abbasids; Obamacons and McCainiacs; Cameroonians and Blairites.

And they told of strange and wondrous things that greeted the news of the Child’s journey. Around the world, global temperatures began to decline, and the ocean levels fell and the great warming was over.

The Great Prophet Algore of Nobel and Oscar, who many had believed was the anointed one, smiled and told his followers that the Child was the one generations had been waiting for.

And there were other wonderful signs. In the city of the Street at the Wall, spreads on interbank interest rates dropped like manna from Heaven and rates on credit default swaps fell to the ground as dead birds from the almond tree, and the people who had lived in foreclosure were able to borrow again.
Black gold gushed from the ground at prices well below $140 per barrel. In hospitals across the land the sick were cured even though they were uninsured. And all because the Child had pronounced it.

And this is the testimony of one who speaks the truth and bears witness to the truth so that you might believe. And he knows it is the truth for he saw it all on CNN and the BBC and in the pages of The New York Times.

Then the Child ventured forth from Israel and Palestine and stepped onto the shores of the Old Continent. In the land of Queen Angela of Merkel, vast multitudes gathered to hear his voice, and he preached to them at length.

But when he had finished speaking his disciples told him the crowd was hungry, for they had had nothing to eat all the hours they had waited for him.

And so the Child told his disciples to fetch some food but all they had was five loaves and a couple of frankfurters. So he took the bread and the frankfurters and blessed them and told his disciples to feed the multitudes. And when all had eaten their fill, the scraps filled twelve baskets.

Thence he travelled west to Mount Sarkozy. Even the beauteous Princess Carla of the tribe of the Bruni was struck by awe and she was great in love with the Child, but he was tempted not.

On the Seventh Day he walked across the Channel of the Angles to the ancient land of the hooligans. There he was welcomed with open arms by the once great prophet Blair and his successor, Gordon the Leper, and his successor, David the Golden One.

And suddenly, with the men appeared the archangel Gabriel and the whole host of the heavenly choir, ranks of cherubim and seraphim, all praising God and singing: “Yes, We Can.”

PRESS RELEASE

LAKE VICTORIA FISHERIES ORGANIZATION SET TO UPGRADE STATUS WITH EAC

EAC Headquarters, Arusha, Friday 25 July 2008: The Secretary General of the East African Community, Ambassador Juma Mwapachu held a meeting with the newly appointed Executive Secretary of the Lake Victoria Fisheries Organization (LVFO), Mr Dick Nyeko in Arusha on 24 July 2008.

The Secretary General was accompanied during the meeting at the EAC Headquarters by the Deputy Secretary General of the EAC, Dr Julius Rotich and the Executive Director of the East African Community Civil Aviation Safety and Security Oversight Agency (CASSOA) Mr. Mtesigwa Maugo . Mr. Nyeko was accompanied during the mission to EAC by the Deputy Executive Secretary of the LVFO Mr. Mathias Wanyama Wafula.

The discussions centred on the progress of the LVFO Strategic Plan (1999-2015) in particular the Fisheries Management Plan for sustainable fisheries on the Lake Victoria . They also discussed institutional matters related to streamlining of linkages between the LVFO and the Secretariats of other EAC institutions such as the Lake Victoria Basin Commission that have complementary roles.

Mr. Nyeko said that a lot of environmental changes were taking place affecting fisheries stock on the lake. He said that, in particular, the Nile Perch stocks were threatened. Noting that the Nile perch was the major traded commodity internationally, he said its decline presented a special concern for livelihoods of millions around the lake.

Mr. Nyeko said the Lake Victoria Fisheries Conference is planned to be held in Entebbe , Uganda in October this year to review the situation of fisheries in Lake Victoria as well as focusing on poverty alleviation among the majority of the populations living around the Lake .

The conference is expected to bring together over 700 participants representing both State and non State actors, Parliamentarians, local government, Beach Management Unit , Non governmental organizations and community based organizations leaders, regional institutions and international collaborators.

On the institutional matters, the Secretary General of the East African Community, Ambassador Juma Mwapachu said the current Convention establishing the LVFO would be reviewed to bring the LVFO under a Community law that would structure it into a legal and regulatory framework that fits the EAC Treaty. The Secretary General said that steps were also being taken to formalize the full membership of Rwanda and Burundi in the LVFO.

CORPORAL PUNISHMENT HARMFUL TO STUDENTS

Head teachers have a duty to find ways that put pressure and which teachers encounter with the main intention being to try to find solutions so as to help bring cohesion in our learning institutions even with the Children’s Act 2001 around.

As the country commemorated the ¡No Kiboko Day¢ and the International No-Hitting Day that are celebrated every year we still have to remember that corporal punishment in Kenyan schools was banned through a Kenya Gazette notice on March 13th 2001. Parents and teachers have a major role in modifying the young minds and they should thus not wait for problems to occur then decide to punish their children. Upbringing, both at home and school determines how one would be in society. Caning is only an ¡emergency¢ measure during desperation and not a solution to indiscipline. Teachers and parent should know that there is more to guiding and counseling than mere talking to pupils when problems occur. Many teachers fail in this important area. Sometimes I blame our society for the ills that affect our students in terms of instilling discipline. Do we spend time with our children or do we go out for drinks and to other social gatherings and come home late at night instead of being with our children yet parents are the best teachers so far?

Do we really have to wait for ¡our fruits¢ to rot in the school basket than to ensure any rotting doesn’t take place at first?

Certainly, caning as an obsolete form of punishment is most degrading and non-ennobling to student learners, for ferule and whip only serve to harden and worsen attitudes of students as opposed to instilling discipline and obedience.

Caning is shameful cruelty committed in the name of discipline that only modifies and transforms bad behavior into another and not its cessation. A single caning could easily transform to kicks when students show immunity and contempt of the cane. Schools should thus cease to be mini-penitentiaries. Certainly caning leads to suppression of indiscipline and not its unlearning. A new and modified learning is but introduced with high chances of acquiring adaptations. There is proof that extreme caning only increased misbehavior and poor performance in schools. Students only end up being tearful and fearful toward their teachers and that limits concentration in class, for extremes beget obstruction. This cruel and unmanly behavior of caning makes students believe that it is the only way to bring conformity in schools only for the same students to use the same machinery against their own colleagues and society. Form one students have been victims of monolizaton. The senior students take advantage by imitating their teachers by punishing their juniors. Once students leave school they understand violence through punishment to be the only way of getting things done their own way. They end up dissembling society by being violent wife-beaters in their homes and rapists in society after reaching maturity age but without character.

In my practice I have had a chance to come across students and women with bruises and swollen arms and some with lacerated and severed backs due to this savagery and brutal attacks all in the name if instilling discipline in homes and schools. I’m interested to understand the right measure and type of behavior modifier as opposed to brutalities met on students as a result of ethical, medico-legal and psychological concerns. I also wonder whether we have put superstition, tradition, culture, ignorance and savagery when dealing with caning which is not the instrumentality of civilization. Certainly any kind of lash and whip irritates than soothes for school dungeons, faggots and scaffolds are seeds of primary torture in the making. The infamous traditional doctrine of caning has unfortunately polluted the imagination of those who underwent this destructive type of punishment as this has hardened their hearts against civilization and has exacerbated ignorance in relation to education and learning. This could be a reason as to why we have many young civil offenders, wife-beaters, robbers and rapists in society as a result of such similar crude upbringing.

Obama for America

Dear Readers,

As you may have heard, Barack has been in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia this week.

Today, he spoke in Berlin, Germany.

In a city where a wall once divided the free from the oppressed, he talked about tearing down the walls that divide all peoples so we can address our common problems — the threats of terrorism and nuclear weapons, global warming and genocide, AIDS and poverty.

Watch Barack’s historic speech and share it with your friends:

Please forward this email to your friends, family, and colleagues.

DEAR MAMA:

Mum,as the turbulence of your demise speaks a whole lot,
You engrave on us your long journey well lived,
We never understood the traffic of your life, complex,
Your surfeit comings and goings, especially of going.
Dispensing the inspiring tablets of your life you did,
At some age, life became questioning and never changing,
You lived loud, called God but we heard of your journey,
A second chance you heartily re-live fully alive,in Heaven.
Beautiful inspiration and lessons you left with us,
Deep inside you left the pages of your unpublished book,
Memories that crack our bones, melting in heartily turbulence,
Making us foam, but strong through your inspiration, deeply haunting.
But as we become the victims of your sorry demise,
You leave your extended family deeply catatonic and mute,
As your numb and innocent soul diffuses onto our only minds,
Inscribing on us, as we wear part of you like a badge of honor.
The whirlwind of your devotional travel to the house of God,
Would bring forth waves of peace and comfort in days to come,
Even as we feel the turbulent impact of your long journey,
Certainly, the winds of your quiet ocean shall fill our hearts for you.
You lived a life second to your soul¢s Mighty calling,
Only to persevere in all manners difficult and challenging,
Without your presence our worth would be long gone,
You¢ve turned a school-devine and a great life¢s teacher,
Tenderly touching our volatile but youthful ignorance.
Mama Abigael Adikinyi, always you shall be wholly engraved,
Not only on our young memories of your special demise,
But you¢ll remain a strong inscription on our delicate souls,
And on the marbles of our turbulent graves, years on end,
As we approach the same road you took through Heaven¢s gate.

Yes, We can Obama Kenya Now!

Dear all patriotic Kenyans,

Yes we can!

Yes we can be the hope for Mama Wanja who has to suffer the night’s stinging cold because our shortsighted leaders messed up the general elections to quench personal ambitions and to protect their corruppt friends.

Yes we can be the hope of Mr. Chege who after losing all his property through political instigated violence, still cannot access Resettlement and Compensation fund because of the carelessness and selfishness of some well placed individuals in our country who reap from disasters they create.

Yes we can be the hope for Wamalwas,Otienos,Karanjas, Kipyegons, Mwongelas, Nyankundis and other millions of Kenyans who works dawn to dusk but have to put up with the pain of watching their families go to bed cold and hungry because their pay-check cannot afford even one meal a day for their children.

Yes we can be the hope for Mama Mueni whose 1 year old does not have baby food, her 12 year old girl child is at risk of dropping out of primary school from stress because she cannot afford the luxury of sanitary towels, and her 7 year old boy child who has a terrible toothache but has never seen a dentist (and probably will not soon either).

Yes we can be the hope for the Kenyans who have to put up with the hell of all day traffic jams, hell of bad roads, hell of pot-holed roads, hell of no roads notwithstanding that they promptly pay their taxes.

Yes we can be the hope for the thousands of urban poor families who are now on a daily skip-a-meal program because they cannot afford the price of unga, kerosene, milk, bread, rice etc

Yes we can be the hope for Rift Valley Railways workers, EZP workers, Flower farm workers, Tea farm workers and Pineapple plantation workers whose sweat from long work hours ends in someone else’s basket who doesn’t work as much and doesn’t live in their neighborhood.

Yes we can be the hope for our fellow countrymen and women who do not own even a small piece of land enough for burial right; our countrymen who play house in the cartons on our street sidewalks and our countrymen who walk around smiling when nothing tickles and scratch where they are not itching and hopelessness has pushed them to accept being mad.

Yes we can be the hope for our country¢s increase in revenue and development if we remain resolute to sustain pressure that all corrupt leaders must held to account for their action or inaction and that our Members of Parliament must join our nation’s taxpayers army.

Yes we can be the hope for our school children who might not finish their High School education because the Minister for Education in old fashioned, reactionary and simplistic attitude of the colonial age has labelled our children criminals who deserve to be in psychological death chambers called prisons.

Yes we can be the hope to bring the word NOW to our country and our people who have yearned for close to 50 years to get a better socio-economic and political contract document called the new generation constitution.

Yes we can be the hope to make North Eastern province move closer to Nairobi or take Nairobi to the forgotten parts of our country.

YES WE CAN AND LET US GET DOWN TO WORK!

Re: Just 2 minutes away from my final destination!

If I am finally lost, it will not be because the man of Galilee did not do enough to warn me, but rather due to my total failure to learn from the many daily warnings! Indeed, the good Lord continue to speak to my heart daily. Today was yet another very strong message.

As you might be aware, my movements continue to be restricted due to my sickness. I stay home literally the whole day, leg sitting! But once in a while, I drive myself, but a short distance.

Today,I left home at 4:45 pm for post office that is only 10 minutes drive away. I had to send 2 copies of my autobiography-Except for the Lord- to Texas and North Calorina. I knew that I had enough time to make it to post office! What I did not anticipate was traffic jam! And to my great disappointment, there was an accident that involved three cars, and as you can imagine, traffic was so slow.

By the time I arrived at the post office,I was 2 minutes late! Wow! Well, I will try again tomorrow!

It was on my way home when it hit me hard! Come with me as together we learn from my mistake!

1.I had enough time but kept on telling myself that I had plenty of time! Don’t we all do this even in matters as important as our salvation!

2.I was sure that 15 minutes were good enough! Many of us are fixed in our own thinking that we don’t want anyone, yes surprisingly, even God himself to disturb us!

3.All it took to miss posting was a mere 2 minutes late. Many of us cheat ourselves by comforting ourselves that we have taken care of the major issues of sin. More often than not, what we forget is that it’s the so called or regarded as small things-gossip, hatred, little cheating, rudeness, arrogance, jealousy, and many others that count. Many of us will be shocked at the last minute when God himself will solemnly declare ” Sorry son/daughter! I can’t find your name!” What a sad day will that be!

Listen, the good news is that,I will make another attempt tomorrow! The sad news as regards our salvation is that when Jesus finally gets here, there will be no more tomorrow! Then, you will realize that it’s too late to do anything! What will you say or do then! I guess nothing really!

But I have good news for you today. There is still time. The question is:”Will I wake up from my slumber and do the right thing now that there is time! Will you!

Just a thought.
