RE: CORRUPTION IN THE FORCE? – NOT NOW

Dear Countrymen,

I welcome the comments by the Right Honourable PM Raila that there is a need to crackdown on rampant police corruption.

It sounds good and everyone cheered loudly ; but the truth is, it is not easy even though possible.

We should confront the demons of the ramifications of such a drastic move if it is not well calculated:

1. There can be an insurrection within the force
2. Police bosses will undermine the system they work for
3. There will be a sharp rise in crime overnight (Insecurity proper)
4. Use of firearms may triple current levels
5. The force will be demoralized
6. They have the capability and numbers to counter our own military
7. They have the inside information and know all the soft spots

The current levels of corruption in the police force are well known and if you asked Chris Murungaru, he knows the silent insurrection he had to deal with when NARC took power. The public never knew but it is well on record that the police downed there tools and refused to take orders from their superiors.

Corruption in the police force is well tolerated by the system for a reason; very much akin to what Mobutu Seseko did for Zaire now DR Congo. He put out resources to promote music in the nation that served as opium for the masses while he looted the nation.

Our force is used to serve political interests and they know thiS. And they are confident we cannot touch them and trust me we wont and cannot. Not now.

To tackle corruption in the force will take the overhauling of the conscience of the nation. How is easy is that?

There will be need to have the anti-corruption psyche embedded in our curriculum. The population will have to be politically educated and empowered through civic awareness. How long will that take?

What the Prime Minister is espousing is politically correct and resonates well with the public but how practical it can be; i remain very skeptical. As Kenyans would say; ‘Sioni!’

So, do we just fold our arms and watch blue birds of Dover over the White Docks of Dover, definitely not, we should do something, but it is more complex than we think.

Using the public platform to do this was also a strategic mistake. The PM’s Bureau should not have let this happen. The government should be ready for the ramifications since they have fired the warning shot in the air. Big mistake.

Let us mull over it as a nation, one day, perhaps just but for now itabidi kazi iendelee??

DID YOU KNOW
THESE FACTS?

I SURE DIDNT TILL NOW

Death is certain but the Bible speaks about untimely death!

Make a personal reflection about this…..

Very interesting, read until the end…..

It is written in the Bible (Galatians 6:7):

‘Be not deceived; God is not mocked:

for whatsoever a man sow,

that shall he also reap.

Here are some men and women

who mocked God :

John Lennon (Singer):

Some years before, during his interview with an American Magazine, he said:

‘Christianity will end, it will disappear..

I do not have to argue about that. I am certain..

Jesus was ok, but his subjects were too simple, today we are more famous than Him’ (1966).

Lennon, after saying that the Beatles were more famous than Jesus Christ, was shot six times.

Tancredo Neves
(President of Brazil ):

During the Presidential campaign, he said if he got 500,000 votes from his party, not even God would remove him from Presidency.

Sure he got the votes, but he got sick a day before being made President, then he died.

Cazuza (Bi-sexual
Brazilian composer, singer and poet):

During A show in Canecio ( Rio de Janeiro ),

while smoking his cigarette, he puffed out some smoke into the air and said:’God, that’s for you.’

He died at the age of 32 of LUNG CANCER in a horrible manner.

The man who built the Titanic

After the construction of Titanic, a reporter asked him how safe the Titanic would be.

With an ironic tone he said:

‘Not even God can sink it’

The result: I think you all know what
happened to the Titanic

Marilyn Monroe (Actress)

She was visited by Billy Graham during a presentation of a show.

He said the Spirit of God had sent him to preach to her.

After hearing what the Preacher had to say, she said:

‘I don’t need your Jesus’.

A week later, she was found dead in her apartment

Bon Scott (Singer)

The ex-vocalist of the AC/DC. On one of his 1979 songs he sang:

‘Don’t stop me; I’m going down all the way, down the highway to hell’.

On the 19th of February 1980, Bon Scott was found dead, he had been choked by his own vomit.

Campinas (IN 2005)

In Campinas , Brazil a group of friends, drunk, went to pick up a friend…..

The mother accompanied her to the car and was so worried about the drunkenness of her friends and she said to the daughter holding her hand, who was already seated in the car:

‘My Daughter, Go With God And May He Protect You.’

She responded: ‘Only If He (God) Travels In The Trunk, Cause Inside Here…..It’s Already Full ‘

Hours later, news came by that they had been involved in a fatal accident, everyone had died,

the car could not be recognized what type of car it had been, but surprisingly, the trunk was intact.

The police said there was no way the trunk could have remained intact. To their surprise, inside the trunk was a crate of eggs, none was broken

Christine Hewitt (Jamaican
Journalist and entertainer)

said the Bible (Word of God) was the worst book ever written.

In June 2006 she was found burnt beyond recognition in her motor vehicle.

Many more important people have forgotten that there is no other name that was given so much authority as the name of Jesus.

Many have died, but only Jesus died and rose again, and he is still alive.

‘Jesus’

PS: If it was a joke,
you would have sent it to everyone.

So are you going to have courage to send this?.

I have done my part, Jesus said

‘If you are embarrassed about me,

I will also be embarrassed about you before my father.’

You are my 8 in 8 seconds. I am not breaking this. No way!

I’M TOLD THIS WORKS!!!!! Bishop T.D. Jakes ‘8 Second Prayer.’ Just repeat this prayer and see how God moves!!

‘Lord, I love you and I need you, come into my heart, and bless me, my family, my home, and my friends, in Jesus’ name. Amen.’

Pass this message to 8 people {EXCEPT YOU AND ME}.You will receive a miracle tomorrow. I Hope that you don’t ignore and

let God bless you.

Re: I have an idea!

I know all my church members by name, and love each one of them very dearly! I care for each one of them so much that during the week, I try getting in touch through visitation, telephone calls and e-mails.

But my greatest and happiest days of the week are Fridays and Sabbaths. Then, I get to see them face to face, and have a chance of shaking their hands and share some experiences! And so, as you can imagine, I eagerly look forward to those two days!

Sad to say, there is every indication that some members don’t realize that! How come! Because there are some Fridays and/or Sabbaths that I go to church and find them not there. They miss for some not so convincing reasons that include the following:

1.Going to work
2.Went somewhere and so ran out of time
3.So tired to go anywhere
4.Went to another church
5.Forgot about it
6.Didn’t feel like going to church
7.Having way too many problems

Some, if not all, don’t even care to at least call and let us know what’s happening. And so we are left wondering!

In thinking of how best I can let them know how I feel about it, I found myself thinking of the story of Hosea and Gomer as found in the book of Hosea. Here is what I am thinking. I know that Holy Communion is coming this coming Sabbath and that I am scheduled to preach. But I was thinking of not showing up! Instead, I can go out there and get myself a job, stay home or even go to another church! And what will be my reasons of not showing up for either Friday vespers or Sabbath day!

1.Well,no one should tell me what to do!
2.I was forced by the employer to report otherwise I will loose my job.
3.I have a thousand and one bills that are just waiting to be paid
4.It’s not all that important to go to church!
5.I feel like visiting other churches

My only concern is that if I did that, many of my church members will not only be very un-happy but will condemn me right away! Some might even decide not to come to church anymore!

Well, will someone let my beloved members know that that is how I feel whenever they miss coming to church!

Just an idea!

Re: Listening to the danger signal in my heart!

As I was driving this morning, a danger signal came on. Since this has happened before, I knew that there was no engine oil in my car and that an engine knock was a possibility if I didn’t act soon. I immediately stopped at a gas station and took care of the problem!

This incident reminded me of a flyer I recently saw in a doctor’s office. The flyer had detailed information of how one can detect a stroke, a blood clot and heart attack. The major and may be the only reason for that is to help a person know how to prevent an attack and therefore save his or her life.

Since we all desire to live longer, no one is known to have ignored such vital information. Whoever does, does so at his or her own risk.

Come to think about it, way before any human being came up with any warnings, the good Lord implanted in every human being a danger signal of detecting sin. Every time we are tempted to sin, a danger signal goes on warning us of dire consequences, which almost always includes this phrase “Be careful for you will be caught.!”

The problem, at least as far as I am concerned, is that more often than not, I chose to ignore the danger signal. But today, I am pleading with the good Lord to help me listen to the danger signal of sin! How about you my dear friend!

Just a thought!

Re: THE MAU FOREST OPTIONS

The current saga about imminent MAU evictions in October is a crisis that must not be allowed to happen. First of all, I believe vacating and protecting MAU is not an option neither is it debatable. It is imperative, a must and long overdue. The debate is where the families affected will move to. My family lives at the very edge of Mau and I myself have good chunk of land along the Mau area. That is where I grew up, went to school and became the man (murenik ) that I am today. Deep in the tropical rain forest was my home for almost half of my life. Those days, the rain never stopped from morning till evening, from January to January. The rivers like Mara, Ambusket, Cheptuech, Chepkulo and others were much larger than the seasonal streams they have become today. The bamboo trees were so huge that we carried water in them. The birds and monkey species were incomparable to anywhere else in the world. The plant and tree canopy species too and beautiful animals that made Mau one of the greatest treasures of Africa have long disappeared. The cedar and other hardwood and softwood trees that seemed indestructible are today nowhere to be found not only in the Mau but anywhere else in Africa. I mourn the loss of my beautiful childhood habitat that was the Western MAU escapement.

As to the options to the great loss of the Mau, the government needs to immediately identify alternative settlement for those who will be affected then move in fast to reforest the Mau. Rift Valley Politicians who seems to simply shout at anything initiated by the government especially by the Prime Minister have no vision or direction for the future of Kenya except their political survival. They pretend to be on the side of the people yet have no vision or plans for the community¢s future survival. They are the same people who recently opposed the legislation for their selfish wages to be taxed. The people of Rift Valley and the rest of Kenya need to hear the truth about their future not political survival tactics of few individuals. The beauty and protection that Mau forest provides to the East African ecosystem and the people cannot be compromised at any cost. The Prime Minister Raila, must move on without fear to protect our unique treasure in the Mau. True leadership decisions are not made by the mobs but by visionaries.

David & all,

David that is a very good information you have given out, I totaly support you. The goal of a leader is to succed in meeting the needs of his constituents. There is no need that the Mps are saying they are doing their best. They should lead people to better life. Let them participate with the government to find alternative for those Kenyans in mau forest instead of making noises. Our Mps nowadays keep on shouting the word corruption all the time. What do you call people who sit down together to agree and decide on their own salaries plus expenses? = CORRUPT. They keep on shouting `all are corrupt, but some are more corrupt than others (Kimunya, Uhuru, Kajwang etc)`. Just like in the animal farm; all animals are equal BUT some are more equal than others. The best option is that the rift valley MPs should call a joint meeting with the government officials and some Mau forest dwellers elders and find a lasting solution for all the families now in Mau forest.

KCA Press Release: Killings must never be acceptable

Sunday, July 19, 2008

The Kenyan Community Abroad (KCA) is surprised and would like to express it’s concern by the pronouncement by the Narok North Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister William Ole Ntimama to a peace meeting in the Mau Forest that “they have already killed 600 people”.

In our view, it is very disturbing that the people we rely upon to lead us and the nation from the chaos resulting from the elections in 2007 are still using that anger which irrationally caused the death of close to 2,000 Kenyans as a bargaining chip against administrative duties of elected government officials.

It should be noted that Kenya faces daunting challenges in recreating a national identity. The divisionism caused by people thinking about “our tribe” and “our people” has no place in our society. We believe that we should delegate tribal identity to its traditional and cultural purpose of identifying Kenyans. We should take pride in what we learn from our culture and not use it to destroy each other.

In addition, the majority of Kenyans cannot identify with leaders that incite youth, either through bribing them or training them in terroristic acts. These leaders only do so to satisfy their egos, not to correct any perceived wrongs which current Kenyans know nothing about.

Kenyans abroad believe activities that teach upcoming and future generations lessons of hating their neighbors based on political incitement is not what we want for Kenya. Violence and killing should be punished by measures that fit the crime.

Therefore, we ask the President His Excellency Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Right Honorable Raila Odinga to show the nation the right way to lead by punishing people that brag about killing 600 innocent Kenyans.

· Hon. William Ole Ntimama should be fired as a cabinet minister immediately.

· He must be charged with crimes against humanity because investigations so far indicate pre-meditated murder.

KCA will start a petition to be presented to parliament at the earliest opportunity appealing for legal measures to be instituted.

Wanainchi,

Kenyans in general decided to vote for Raila because of his past records of struggle and his promise that he will lead Kenya and stump out corruption and nepotism. He also promised to deliver the constitution which will assist in Good Governance to Kenyans. Raila is not doing his work as he is expected by Kenyans who voted for him. Raila should not mess this golden chance accorded to a Luo by all Kenyans in ODM. Raila is seen to be compromised and is failing Kenyans who voted for him. He has joined hands with the people who killed thousands of Kenyans and stole ODM leadership and has turned his back on ODM and put ODM members in the cold.

Today many Ministers have been implicated in report that they involved in acts of corruption and genocide. People like Kalonzo Musyoka who used Youth to kill others for political gain, Uhuru Kenyatta who upon being given lists of councillors from the Justice Dept. decided against the Law to appoint people of his own choice, a matter requiring investigation. There are a good number of Ministers who have been given postings and representation in government public office but are expected to be censored for election sins and other corrupt deals and mismanagement they have committed requiring legal action to be instituted on them.

We were expecting Raila to do cleaning in the house to rid the bad crops from the house so Kenya can start on a good footing to root out corruption and other vices.

Secondly, Orengo and Oburu is now suffering consequences from Grand Regency because of leniency and immunity accorded to Kimunya by PM Raila and President Kibaki to float and mix freely and cover his dirty trick by intimidating, eliminating, killing, covering and concealing all sources of truth from the sale of Grand Regency saga. The same tricks are now being used to choose who should hold the docket of the Office of Minister for Finance.

There is no where in law which states that Finance Minister must only come from one PNU even if they dont have a suitable candidate. In law a Deputy or Assistant Minister can always run the office for the Minister in the absence or upon death or upon incidences like this one of Kimunya until such time a suitable candidate is found for 90 days. If the Government fail to find a suitable candidate, then the Assistant is confirmed and the Assistant position will be filled by a new person. This is according to the Registrar of Society and Associations. Let Oburu should not be killed because the Kikuyus want their own tribe to fill this position.

There are a group calling themselves ODM Officials in USA Washington who are fundraising money today for ODM members to stand for Gem Parliamentary seat in waiting. While at the same time, Gem people in USA Washington DC has lost a talented grand child whose fundraising was also being done a stone throw away on the same day. These so called Gem Parliamentary leaders in the waiting could not come to share in grief with other Gem and Kenyans at Shady Grove St. Stephens Catholic Chapel, they decided to divert a group of people of the same community to go for Nyama Choma fundraising while other Kenyans and other Friends including the Kenyan Ambassador’s Officials were at St. Raphael Catholic Church paying their last respect to a Grand Gem child.

How will these so called Gem Leaders in the waiting unite and work for the benefit of Gem people if they cannot use a simple basic common sense to console the family of the bereaved.

Obamanites, What More Does Mutahi Ngunyi Know About Obama’s Safety?

Dear Obamanites,

In his Last word on Sunday article entitled ‘Can Kibaki outsmart the PNU rebels?’ Mutahi Ngunyi ends by asking and I quote,

“And today being a Sunday, I suggest that we say a prayer for Senator Barack Obama <http://www.nationmedia.com/dailynation/nmgcontententry.asp?category_id=25&newsid=127691#> .
Not for him to win, but for God to preserve his life. I say so because Americans are known to assassinate their best – especially the prominent blacks. As his ancestral land, we owe the guy a preservation prayer. Or what do you think?”

Food Crisis and Grand Corrupriton in Kenya!

Dear All,

Government’s mandate is to provide security against threats for its citizen; when a government cannot ensure security against all forms of threat it has no business being in power. Food insecurity has endangered many lives in Kenya especially West and East Pokot where our people are feeding on wild carcases and rats; this leads us to wonder, do we have a government? read more at Bunge la Mwananchi website: http://www.bulamwa.co.ke//index.php?option=com_news_portal&Itemid=38

Fw: Kenya is in Extreme Hunger

Folks,
Kenyan Population is Exploding with extreme hunger pushing people on the edge.

{http://blog.jaluo.com/?p=1176 }

Looking at the attached email I received from A Youth Group in Nairobi, I see an extreme urgency for intervention to salvage a situation. A situation which cannot be compromised or continue to be politicized. To have Kenyan Police continuing with harassing these Youth Group, is tantamount to provoking and pushing these Youth groups to the edge. This is an alarm warning to the Government that all is not well needing quick response and a fix, a condition of tender security risk.

Over the years Politicians have used these Youths for Political harvest and other gains during Campaign and Election time, a case which many complain they cannot access or reach some Politicians after election are over or after Politicians have been elected.

These Youths have boiling point energy that has been built up over the years, and when not diverted and put to good use might turn to be destructive and catastrophic a phenomenon no one would want happen. In which case, these Youths have a future and expectations, a look to a generation of developmental success with the whole world in a competitive edge.

This is a moment we must exercise tact with compassion not to have their hopes dwindle or crashed, but provide them with clear support mentor ship to achieving their potentials as they face their future. Let us together encourage them to use their skills and talents to build and improve a Kenyan Workforce of competitiveness and self-reliance in achieving their fuller potential through encouragement.

Official figures Published by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics in January 2007 estimated the population of Kenya at 36.1 million in 2006. The population growth rate however, has dropped from 2.82% in 2005 to 2.75% in 2006. This could be attributed to the many cases of HIV as well as extreme hunger that which have made Kenyan youth to delay in marriage or have controlled family size. Both men and women are striving and struggling to earn some form of living one way or the other as inflation continue to bite. Not many people would participate in open politics as was seen in the year 2007 election and after the referendum. During which time it dawn to many people that politicians are the cause of their economic collapse because the Constitution have windows that gave Presidents/leaders excessive powers to corrupt the Publics resources for their personal utilization and gains. Unfortunately past leaders as well as Politically correct personalities and businessmen corrupted Kenyan money and holed them in foreign accounts abroad so little would go into circulation for development to improve the economy in extension.

The delay of delivering sound Constitutional Reform Structural Agenda is the hope many Kenyans believe will curb against Public Resource theft, but has been kept in abeyance causing curiosity and anxiety to many. This situation is believed to be causing extreme anxiety and has brought with it poverty, disease and hunger, giving rise to the many violence in Kenya today.

Most foreign and local observers blamed the violence in Kenya on abuse and misuse of power by Kikuyu politicians, a rigged election and economic that brought more hardships. Corruption, ethnic rivalry and voting irregularities are engineered for the politically correct few.

One reason Kenyans have been able to cope with these troubles before in the past was that the population had not overgrown in size as is today, and the economy also was not as bad. Corporations like Kenya Banks, Ports Authority, Power and Lightning Companies, Post Office, Kenya Railways, Immigration, Housing, Transportation and the Tourism including Agriculture plantations and others were doing well. They were enjoying greater political freedom and prosperity then. During those good Good Old Days, many were employed in the above institutions and were able to educate their children in urban areas under progressive environment. Even the Political Parties rose from 11 to 26.

In only 80 years, Kenya’s population has jumped from 2.9 million to 37 million. It would now have 1.56 billion citizens. And because of higher living standards, these younger Kenyans are much more vital and ambitious than their predecessors. An agenda requiring Urgent Job Creation and Economic Stimulant in Revamping, Rejuvenating and Jump-Starting the Economy from collapse. If not taken seriously, Kenya may be overwhelmed by a wave of violence culminated by extreme poverty and hunger.

Today Kenya stand to risk the cherished Domesticated Nuclear Family that for years has been stable for decades to an encroaching destruction from outside forces brought about by poverty and from intruders from disparate women hunting for weaker sexual minded men who becomes targets for like minded women who are after looting stable family coffers. Thus Consequently, Kenya is turning a textbook example of domestic violence driven by a “youth bulge” A growing population of “Educated Youth” with vibrant energy to work but no availability of jobs, because some jobs are offered according to who is who or by tribal.

It would be even more advantageous if Kenya returns to internal harmony With its unused land being turned to Community agricultural cooperatives etc., It was estimated by the Population Reference Bureau that 33% of the population lived in urban areas in 2001. The capital city, Nairobi, had a population of 2,205,000 in that year. Mombasa, the chief seaport, had an estimated 465,000. Other large cities and their estimated populations were Kisumu, 185,100; Nakuru, 163,000; Machakos, 116,100; Meru, 78,100; Eldoret, 104,900; and Nyeri, 88,600. According to the United Nations, the urban population growth rate for 2000–2005 was 4.1%.

The prevalence of AIDS/HIV has had a significant impact on the population of Kenya. The United Nations estimated that 15% of adults between the ages of 15–49 were living with HIV/AIDS in 2001. The AIDS epidemic causes higher death and infant mortality rates, and lowers life expectancy. 75 per cent of Kenya’s population is concentrated in a high potential agricultural belt which runs north-west from Nairobi to the Ugandan border. This belt forms only 10 per cent of the country’s land area. Most of the remaining area is either arid or semi-arid and is sparsely populated. Approximately three (3) million people live in Nairobi, the capital city. Kenya

It is important to note that the urban population has been growing at an alarming rate as many Kenyans migrate from their rural homes to urban centers and major cities such as Nairobi, Mombasa and Eldoret. These people migrate in search of employment and better standards of living. This has resulted in over-population in major cities and scarcity of jobs. Most of the urban dwellers however retain links with their rural and extended families. They visit home often where they contribute in other activities such farming, fishing and taking care of the family as they maintain Sustainable Population.

Re: As it was told by my friend!

A friend of mine told me a very sad story as it was told to him by his friend! It was a story about his brother, that had a painful beginning, then moved to a praise the Lord story before it became a terminal story.

His brother became sick; the kind of sickness that almost every one knew that it was a matter of time before he passed away. But prayer was offered on his behalf. He himself promised the Lord that in case he came out of the hospital, he would change his priorities, forsake his evil ways and serve the Lord for ever! Does it sound familiar!

Like always, the Lord heard the cry of His children and sure answered them. He was cured to the surprise of even the doctors!

On coming out of the hospital, he lived to his promise by starting to go to church. The family was not only thankful but truly excited. Lest did they know that this was short lived. Hardly three months after the miraculous healing, the guy went back to his past life of sin. He started drinking and forgot all about God and the church. He did not last long for shortly afterward, he passed away. If only he would have lived to his promises!

Many of us have been to this game over and over again. Many are the promises we have given to the Lord of the universe, “Lord, if you help me with this problem……then I will sure serve you for ever.” But as soon as that problem is solved, we disappear until another problem strikes.

Ever promised the Lord! What happened to your promise? Tonight, I have asked God not only to forgive me but also help me keep all my promises towards Him! How about you my dear friend?

Just a thought!

A dailymail.co.uk article from Joram Ragem

I asked my wife to consider me for such a gift at my next birthday. Though I am Bahai. She refered me to Corinthians I, Chapter 7 which makes sense. Yet I still prefer this gift. What do you think? Joram Ragem

Could you make love to your husband every day for a year?

On the eve of her husband’s 40th birthday, Charla Muller told him that his present was going to be sex with her every day for a year. It was a gift that made them face some uncomfortable truths.

POLICE TERROR ON BUNGE LA MWANANCHI PHOTO CAPTIONS

Dear Editor,

It is common knowledge that a majority of the urban poor cannot afford basic food for their children. It is in this regard that Bunge La Mwananchi recently organized a public procession to make our voice heard on a matter of public interest. However, ever since Bunge La Mwananchi organized the food protest, the Kenya police continue to make it very difficult for Bunge La Mwananchi members to meet at Jeevanjee Gardens, Nairobi. ( see attached pictures). ptoblmp.htm

We cannot help but wonder: Is it criminal in our country to remind people something they already know? Is our police force justified in harassing Kenyans who are just coming together in a park to cry together over their woes?  Why are the police who swore to protect us violating our individual, human and constitutional rights every time they spot us or hear we are at Jeevanjee Gardens?

In a country ridden with crime, in a country where there is one policeman for every 400 people, why is the government wasting 2 policemen everyday to make sure our members do not enter Jeevanjee Gardens; forgetting that it is a park for all Kenyans and not a police post?

Bunge La Mwananchi are law abiding citizens and whatever we do is well within our constitutional rights. We therefore request human rights conscious people to join us in demanding the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of police from Jevanjee Gardens. Send the following short message to your Member of Parliament: “protect our right to organize, demand ministerial statement from Minister for Security on why Bunge la Mwananchi cannot meet at Jeevanjee?”

Get it in writing.  Keep providing a reminder to the officials of a need to live up to the idea.

Other inalienable rights of persons are to assemble with who they choose, assemble peacefully, and also to petition their government for redress of their grievances.  Some countries have this in their constitution / bill of rights, for all to read.  Some countries acknowledge and currently respect the principle.  Not all countries that are doing one of these will do both.

A few countries, on the other hand, deny the basic concept through their behavior.  There, remedies are required.

Lt.Gen. Lazaro K.Sumbeiywo and Future of Sudan

On Saturday the 18th of July 2008, I had a rare opportunity to meet and interact with Gen (rtd) Lazarus Sumbeiywo, the famous mediator for the Sudan Peace Process. It was around lunch time when he was about to leave one of his private properties in Eldoret Town that he offered to verbally inform me, but on his personal perspective and capacity as a Kenyan and not an official statement, about the fate of Sudan. Though very optimistic on the Peace Process that was signed years back and that was time consuming and challenging, he still assures the people of Sudan lasting peace. Even as the warrant for President Omar Al-Bashir may be reviewed after six weeks the only challenge comes in when Sudan begins to disintegrate. This could be in three regions; North, South and West of Sudan.

Previously an agreement on wealth sharing during the pre-interim and interim period was held at Naivasha in the year 2004 and witnessed by Lt. Gen. Lazaro K. Sumbeiywo (Rtd) on behalf of the IGAD Envoys.

The Government of the Republic of the Sudan and the Sudan People¢s Liberation Movement/Sudan People¢s Liberation Army (the Parties) had previously been conducting negotiations under the auspices of the IGAD Peace mediated Process; and having taken up the division of wealth in pursuit of comprehensive agreement, that will ensure a just and durable peace in the Sudan.

Now that they have reached an agreement on Wealth Sharing, covering the division of oil and non-oil revenues, the management of the oil sector, the monetary authority and the reconstruction of the South and other war-affected areas during the Pre-Interim and Interim Period were agreed upon.

The parties agreed and confirmed that they were determined to build on this important Agreement until a comprehensive peace Agreement is reached.

It is within this context that the Parties agreed to continue negotiations on the remaining outstanding issues on the Conflict Areas and Power Sharing and subsequently negotiated for a comprehensive ceasefire

Agreement and Implementation Modalities in order to achieve a final comprehensive Peace Agreement in the Sudan.

OIL RESOURCES.

These were the guiding principles for the management and development of the petroleum sector. The Parties agreed that the basis for an agreed and definitive framework for the management of the development of the petroleum sector during the Interim Period shall include the following:

Sustainable utilization of oil as a non-renewable natural resource consistent with:

a) the national interest and the public good;

b) the interest of the affected states/regions;

c) the interests of the local population in affected areas;

d) national environmental policies, biodiversity conservation guidelines, and cultural heritage protection principles.

Empowerment of the appropriate levels of government to develop and manage, in consultation with the relevant communities, the various stages of oil production within the overall framework for the management of petroleum development during the Interim Period. Give due attention to enabling policy environment for the flow of foreign direct investment by reducing risks associated with uncertainties regarding the outcome of the referendum on self-determination at the end of the
Interim Period.

Establishment of a stable macroeconomic environment that emphasizes on the need to have stability of the petroleum sector. Persons enjoying rights in land shall be consulted and their views shall duly be taken into account in respect of decisions to develop subterranean natural resources from the area in which they have rights, and shall share in the benefits of that development. Persons enjoying rights in land are entitled to compensation on just terms arising from acquisition or development of land for the extraction of subterranean natural resources from the area in respect of which they have rights. The communities in whose areas development of subterranean natural resources occurs have the right to participate, through their respective states/regions, in the negotiation of contracts for the development of those resources.

Regardless of the contention over the ownership of land and associated natural resources, the Parties agree on a framework for the regulation and management of petroleum development in Sudan during the Interim Period.

Thank you from the Family of Nancy Moraa Birari Nyamwange

Dear Family and Friends,

This is to sincerely thank you for your timely and much needed moral and financial support that you afforded us on the occasion of the untimely death of Nancy Moraa the wife of my young brother Joshua Birari Nyamwange. Thank you so much.

I have no better words or better language to express how your comforting words, and your prayers, and your monies have played a pivotal role in this sad hour for our family.

I know how many other “fires’ were/are going on at he same time, but you found some time and resources to fight our “fire” too.

I tell people always that we should never get tired of helping others when we are capable. Your reward is not in this world.

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. “ (Ga 6:9)

Jesus will say to you, “My wife died in South Africa and you helped me ship the remains to Nyarurubo village, Nyaribari-Chache, Kisii District, for burial”.

She was buried on Wednesday, July 16, 2008.

It is a fact that as long there are people and there is life, there will be births, sicknesses, training (schooling), weddings, aging and yes even death. I am sure the battle is ongoing and I encourage us never to be discouraged because as long as you have breath you know you will have to experience a “fire” of one kind or another some time in your life..

From the bottom of the Nyamwange Family we thank you for being there for us this time.

For the Nyamwange Family

Keen Nyamwange.

Women to Women weekend in Ohio

Obama for America

Dear Readers,

{{}}
Women to Women Weekend Events
On this weekend in 1848 — 160 years ago — women and men gathered in Seneca Falls, New York, for the first American conference on women’s rights and suffrage.

Barack Obama has always fought for women’s rights. In his more than 20 years of public service as a civil rights lawyer, state senator, and U.S. Senator, Barack has been an advocate for all Americans’ economic and legal equality.

To commemorate the anniversary of the historic Conference and honor the right to vote, the Campaign for Change and the Ohio Democratic Party Women’s Caucus are organizing a Seneca Falls 160th Anniversary Women to Women Weekend.

Our Women to Women Weekend features more than 50 events across the state, where we will highlight Barack Obama’s support among Ohioans and reach out to voters to grow our movement in the Buckeye State.

These events are a great way to build our movement in Ohio with canvasses, voter registration, phone banks, and house meetings that will help candidates up and down the ballot.

Find a Women to Women event near you:

On the issues that are most important to Ohioans, Barack will work for positive change in Washington, while John McCain will continue George Bush’s failed policies of the last 8 years.

With the general election upon us, your fellow Americans are relying on you to step up and work for the change we need.

Ohio will be a crucial part of our general election strategy, and our efforts here will be felt all across the country.

Join us this weekend to commemorate the historic events of the Seneca Falls conference, and help grow our grassroots movement for change:

2 HIV/AIDS Experts HELD IN IRAN; HR, aids, AIDS2008;

Iran Detains Two Leading HIV/AIDS Experts

Dr. Kamiar Alaei, one of two brothers who have worked closely with the Asia Society on HIV/AIDS programmes and are now being detained in Iran.

UNITED NATIONS – / MaximsNews Network / 16 July 2008 — Asia Society today expressed its deep concern regarding confirmed reports that two Iranian nationals who are part of Asia Society’s Young Leaders Program have been detained in Iran by Iranian authorities; Drs. Arash and Kamiar Alaei are leading Iranian experts on HIV/AIDS who have pioneered HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment activities in Iran.

Both Alaei brothers have worked closely with Asia Society on HIV/AIDS awareness activities throughout the Asia-Pacific region for years, and both are participants in Asia Society’s Asia 21 Young Leaders Program.

Dr. Kamiar Alaei was selected by Asia Society among leaders from across the Asia-Pacific as a 2008-2009 Asia 21 Fellow.

“Asia Society is deeply concerned about the apparent detention by Iranian authorities of Drs. Arash and Kamiar Alaei, who are both leading figures in the HIV/AIDS community and Asia Society Young Leaders,” said Asia Society Chairman Richard C. Holbrooke.

Asia Society Executive Vice President Jamie Metzl, who has worked closely with the Alaei brothers, is actively pursuing this matter with appropriate officials and partner organizations.

Dr. Kamiar Alaei is a doctoral candidate at the SUNY Albany School of Public Health who is expected to resume his studies in Albany this fall. He holds a Masters degree in International Health from Harvard University.

His brother Arash is the former Director of the International Education and Research Cooperation of the Iranian National Research Institute of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease.

Since 1998, Alaei and his brother, Kamiar, have been carrying out programs dealing with HIV/AIDS and the Harm Reduction of Drugs in the war-torn province of Kermanshah, on the West Coast of Iran.

Since 1986, the Alaei brothers have worked on an ongoing project that seeks to integrate issues concerning the prevention and care of HIV/AIDS, STI, and Drug-Related Harm Reduction into the National Health Care system.

In addition to their work in Iran, the Alaei brothers hold training courses for Afghan and Tajik medical workers and have worked to encourage regional cooperation among 12 Middle Eastern and Central Asian countries.

They have appeared widely in the international media, including on the BBC, the Washington Post, Knight Ridder and other outlets.

 Dear friends and colleagues,

First of all we would like to thank those of you who have already endorsed the *Human Rights and HIV/AIDS: Now More Than Ever* declaration published by the Open Society Institute’s Law and Health Initiative, which outlines why law and human rights should occupy the center of the global HIV/AIDS struggle and highlights that universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support will never be achieved without much greater action on HIV/AIDS and human rights.

Over 400 organizations have already endorsed the declaration, but we are hoping at least *another 100 organizations *will have endorsed the declaration by July 28, 2008. The endorsement campaign will culminate in a rally for human rights at the 2008 International AIDS Conference in Mexico on August 7, 2008.

*Human Rights and HIV/AIDS: Now More Than Ever Declaration***

To allow us to reach this goal, we would like to ask you to circulate this message among other organizations you work with, encouraging them to take a couple of minutes to submit their  organization’s endorsement of the declaration “Human Rights and HIV/AIDS: Now More Than Ever”. And if your organization has not yet endorsed the declaration, we are asking you to do so as soon as possible. Please note that at this time we welcome the endorsements on behalf of organizations rather than individuals.

*Download the declaratio* <http://download%20the%20declaratio/>*n:*

*Endorse the declaration* <http://endorse%20the%20declaration/>*: ** www.soros.org/endorsehumanrights** *(this page is in English only, but endorsing the declaration is very easy and requires only very little knowledge of English).

*International Rally for Human Rights and HIV/AIDS***

In addition to seeking additional organizational endorsements for the declaration, we invite all those who will attend the International AIDS Conference in Mexico City to participate in the first international rally for human rights and HIV/AIDS.

Participants will gather at 1:30 PM on Thursday, 7 August, in the space in front of the main stage in the conference’s Global Village, to demand human rights for all people living with and at risk of HIV, as well as vastly greater attention to human rights in the response to HIV. Among those who will give keynote presentations and/or to receive a copy of the human rights declaration with the list of endorsements are: Mary Robinson (Executive Director of the Ethical Globalization Initiative and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and President of Ireland), Peter Piot (UNAIDS Executive Director), and Michel Kazatchkine (Executive Director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria).

*More info about the rally: **www.soros.org/marchforhumanrights*

*”Human Rights & HIV/AIDS: Now More than Ever” Networking Zone ***

Finally, during the International AIDS Conference in Mexico City, exciting events (including hot topic debates, sessions during which rapporteurs will summarize the key human rights events of the day, human rights campaigns, and much more) will take place every day in the Human Rights Networking Zone, located in the conference’s Global Village in *networking zone 421*, right beside the entrance to the food court.

The goal of the Networking Zone is to bring together HIV and human rights organizations to maximize visibility of the human rights concerns of people living with and at high risk of HIV, and to catalyze action on HIV and human rights.

Through this communication, *we would like to extend a special invitation to you to participate in actions and events at the zone.  *We hope the zone will reflect the diversity and talents of the conference itself, recognizing that all those living with HIV and at most risk — whether women, gay or bisexual men, prisoners, people who use drugs, or sex workers – share a history of human rights abuse and neglect.

*Delegates Guide to Human Rights at AIDS 2008*

The full program of the Human Rights Networking Zone will become available within the next weeks, together with the *Delegates’ Guide to Law and Human Rights at AIDS 2008*, providing detailed information about all events at the conference with a focus on law and human rights. Please check out our website at www.soros.org/networkforhumanrights for a copy.

* *

*Many thanks in advance for your interest and support! Please circulate this note widely, encourage other organizations to also demand greater attention to human rights in the fight  against HIV by endorsing the declaration and joining the rally, and participate in the events in the  Human Rights Networking Zone (Global Village, #421).*

Situation Analysis on the current cholera menace

Dear Jaluo,

I thank you for giving us a forum to be able to discuss issues that affect our lives in a customised way.

My concern is on the cholera menace currently ravaging the city of Kisumu residents especially those from the informal settlement areas (Nyalenda, Manyatta, Migosi, Bandani, Obunga, Nyamasaria)Kibos and Kisian due to consumption of contaminated water-Mainly the shallow wells.

Cholera is further spread by carriers who come from the above localities selling cheap food in the estates, unhygienic kiosks and streets of Kisumu.

The epidemic has been on and off since mid 2007 and exacerbated by rains washing the ground contamination into the water sources of the above mentioned residents.

As the medical Officer in charge of Kisumu Municipality doing the ‘fire-fighting’ aspect of cholera control in conjuntion with the ministry of health and partners, we are interested in a long term plan to curb the problem once and for all.

In the cholera control team we have realised that the problem is one that requires multi-sectoral approach with serious input from all concerned stakeholders(public and private) for it to end.

The support so far received has been from Ministry of Public Health & Sanitation, Ministry of Medeical Services, Kisumu Municipality, UNICEF, CARE(K), World Vision, Red Cross, District Commissioner, KIWASCO, Lake Victoria South Water Services Board, among others. However, new cases keep coming up with 4 reported deaths since June this year. These are unnecessary deaths coming late for treatment and the situation remains unpredictable.

A committee has been established by the Ministry of Public Health and sanitation to see to it that this menace comes to an end and the above mentioned partners are participating well. Currently the head of this team is the provincial Medical Officer and the chair of the committee is myself.

I’m making an unconditional appeal for support to any organisation or individual for a detailed situation analysis that will come out with recommendations and way forward to jump start strategies for water and sanitation, poverty eradication and the necessary city planning mechanisms geared towards better conditions of living for the residents of this city and its environs

May God bless you all.
