Solving our financial crisis

Obama for America

Hello:

The economy hit a new low this week, and in every part of the country, people
like you are feeling it.

The recent financial disasters — from the collapse of Fannie Mae and Freddie
Mac to the historic drop in the stock market — are not just a string of
bad luck.  They are the result of years of bad decisions made in favor
of big corporate special interests instead of America’s working families.

More than 600,000 Americans have lost their jobs since January. Home foreclosures
are skyrocketing, and home values are plunging.  Gas prices are at an
all-time high, and we’re still spending more than $10 billion every month
on a war in Iraq that should never have been waged.

John McCain’s campaign is doing everything it can to focus attention on false
personal attacks and distractions — but there’s too much at stake for that
kind of politics.

I need your help to get the conversation back on track.

I recorded a two-minute TV ad about our economy and my plan to solve this
crisis.  Please watch the ad and share it with everyone you know:

Watch the video and share it with your friends

For eight years, Bush-McCain economic policies have favored reckless deregulation
and huge tax loopholes for big corporations.  Now, as these corporations
crumble, American taxpayers are facing costly bailouts.

More of the same failed ideas are not going to solve our economic problems.

I’m calling for a $1,000 tax break for middle-class families — not just
because they need help dealing with the rising costs of gas, food, and health
care, but also because our economy needs to be reinvigorated from the bottom
up, not the top down.

I’m proposing a second stimulus package to save over one million jobs and
provide immediate relief to struggling families.

And I’ll end the “anything goes” culture on Wall Street with real regulation.
We can see clearly that our economy is stronger when we protect investments
and pensions, and avoid devastating bankruptcies and bailouts.

This is no ordinary time, and it shouldn’t be an ordinary election. Help
keep the discussion focused on the issues.

Please watch the video and share it with your friends today:

Thanks for helping to bring the change this country needs,

Barack

Re: Hosting others!

When it comes to hosting others, there are always two sides to it. Here are the two sides:

The positive side:

1.Host goes an extra mile in making their guest/s feel so much at home.
2.Host doesn’t demand rent all the time his/her guest/s is there
3.Host gives a rider to wherever the guest/s needs to go without any pain whatsoever
4.Host provide the guest/s with enough information on things to watch out
5.Host treat guest/s with dignity and respect

The negative side:

1.Host treats the guest/s as children
2.Host goes to an extend of yelling at the guest/s
3.Food becomes an issue. Host begins to talk of how expensive food is.
4.Host makes it so uncomfortable for the guest/s
5.Host starts to threaten the guest/s
6.Host begins finding fault in every small thing
7.Host kicks out the guest/s prematurely. And because of this, the relationship breaks forever

It becomes necessary for the host to remember the following:

1.Avoid mistreating your guest/s
2.Remember that guest/s will be with you for a short period of time
3.Be careful how you pass over the information as people tend to remember more negative things than positive things
4.God alone will reward you.

If I remember, next time I will write something about guest/s. But for now, please take stock on how you have always handled your guest/s. If at any one time you mistreated someone, please ask for forgiveness!

Will you?

CHAIRMAN RESIGNATION SPARK OFF MASSIVE SCANDALS AT SONY SUGAR.

Busines News Analysis By Leo Odera Omolo In Awendo Town

The abrupt resignation of the former chairman of the Awendo based Sony Sugar Company has opened a can of warm in revealing a number of scandals which have been going on behind the scene at the government owned facility.

It came to the notice of the general public and the Sugar cane farming fraternity that there has been grave political interferences in the day to day management of the Awendo based facility leading to its inability to operate independently and efficiently.

A cartel of certain group of wheeler-dealers with connection s in high places are blamed. The tribulation at the Sony Sugar is said to have started immediately after the December 2007 general elections.

In the election the former Rongo MP George Mbogoh Ochillo-Ayacko lost the seat to parliamentary seat to Dalmas Otieno who had also at one time served as the first MP for Rongo when the seat was created in the late 1990s.The latter is now a cabinet Minister in the grand coalition government. He is the Minister for Public Service in the Office of the President.

Soon after being appointed to the cabinet Otieno, it is being alleged had embarked on a grand scheme to print his influence in the day-to-day running and management of the Sony Sugar.

With unexpected exit of Mr. Ojwang’ the farmers have now appealed to the Minister for Agriculture William Ruto to pick a new chairman from a neutral area outside, arguing that replacing Ojuwang”s with a man from within the locality would only bread malice{Fitinas} but not serve to improve the company’s production capacity.

It has come to our notice that a political surrogate of the Public Service Minister Dalmas Otieno has been pestering the management and the board with unclear offer of an overseas bank said to be willing to finance the factory expansion project at unspecified colossal amount of money and that some of its Kenyan collaborators stand to harvest million of shillings as part of the “kick back” from the deal and that the under table amount money would be deposited in the wheeler dealer’s overseas bank accounts.

The deal has been negotiated and concluded and was only awaiting for the signing of the agreement when the deal aborted after another interested group of powerful politicians within the ODM had telephoned the overseas financiers and told them to hold on the deal until further notice. This is believed to have saved Sony millions of shillings, which could have been siphoned.

It was just a matter of conflict of interests and it came at a time when the wheeler dealer had already flew out and went to overseas for the signing of the agreement ceremony. The alleged overseas Financing company is said to be nursing a long term interests in acquiring the wholly government owned Sony Sugar Company at a later date when the government facts its shares for privatization.

Sugar cane farmers in Awendo and its environs have now appealed to the Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga to come to their rescue by restraining politicians from interfering with the company operations. Sony Sugar serves six administrative district in both Nyanza and Rift Valley Provinces. It has contracted close to 25,000 sugar cane farmers in Rongo, Migori, Trans-Mara, Gucha and Homa-Bay districts. It is also serving almost equal number of non-contracted farmers within the six administrative districts and as such needs to be protected at all costs.

The farmers want The Prime Minister specifically to restrain his cabinet colleague Dalmas Otieno to de link himself from the operations of Sony Sugar which is an important economic source for thousands of people in greater Southern Nyanza.r

Matter changed for the worse when Dalmas Otieno won the Rongo seat in December 2007. The Minister who is allegedly to be heavily indebted even owed Sony Sugar an outstanding debt amounting to Kshs. 870,000 for the services rendered to him for some years now The company had even delivered waters at hist Kangeso home in central Kamagambo location, Rongo Division. And even ,very recently when the legislator lost his son. But he has flatly refused to clear the outstanding debts some of which are said to have remained unsettled for more than 5 years.

Impeccable sources in Awendo have confided to this writer that the questions of unsettled debts are some of the sources of discontent leading to bad blood between the Minister and the chairman of the board of directors of Sony Sugar, which led to MR. Ojwang’,s resignation in huff.

Relations between the Minister and the former chairman of Sony Sugar Mr. Herbert Ojwang’s it is further being alleged came when the Rongo legislator had asked the company to bend the procedural law to award the tender for scrap metals exclusively to a company in which the Minister’s wife had business interest.

But Mr. Ojwang is understood to have stood his ground , arguing that the request was contrary to the laid down procurement procedure

The former chairman tendered his resignation on Monday citing frustration and political interferences, but decline to name the4 source of such interferences. He, however, termed as gross political interference in the management of the company as ther cause of his departure.

Ojwang’s, however appeared to have won the heart of thousands of farmers due to hismanagerial skills and good public relations, which has resulted in the hirtheto financially strapped turned around. Other allegations against the Minister were that he wanted Sony management to appoint his political cronies and surrogates as the head of the various departments without following the regulations and in total disregard of their academic qualifications.

Minister Otieno it is also being alleged has been fronting for the appointment of a Mr. Charles Ogalo as the new chairman of the SONY Sugar board of directors. Mr.Ogalo hails from his central Kamagambo home. And the man is already doing business with Sony Sugar via an organization which is known as “Genetic” a financial mobilization organization for the workers pension etc..

The said Ogalo it is being alleged to be in partnership with one Victor Kidiwa of the The Finance Development of Kenya ,which is also said in the process of offering part of its shares for sale to an overseas finance company, which is said to be interested in financing the expansion of Sony Sugar.

Last week the Sony Sugar company Public Relations manager Mr.Wilson Okong,o earned his suspension indefinitely on unspecified allegations of peddling rumours among workers. The reason of Mr.Okongo’s suspension is rather sketchy as there was no reliable source ready to reveal the facts about it.

Okong’o who used to be a primary school teacher at the Sony Sugar Company prior to his appointment was also served as a stringer for a number of media houses in the area as such had no proper CV for the coveted company’s top spokesman’s jobn, which entails heavy responsibility involvedin the PR’s job.

The war of attrition between Minister Dalmas Otieno and the former Sony Sugar Chairman is said to have resulted in recent heated exchange of harsh words a week ago after the two had attended the home coming party for the Uriri MP Ojwang Omolo at Rapogi.

It was reported that during his address to the gathering the Minister in full view of the hundreds of cane farmers had scathingly criticized the board of Sony Sugar for not serving the farmers interest effectively and efficiently and that it should be disbanded.

The remarks did not go down well with Mr.Ojwang’ who was present at the ceremony and who might have felt his board had done a lot for the farmers, workers and the community, but was now being vilified and humiliated in public.

It could be remembered thatr In July, 2006 before Mr. Ojwang’’s appointement to the sony Sugar, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture Dr Romano Kiome is said to had written a letter appointing Dalmas Otieno in the same position, but the appointment was later rescinded for some unknown reasons.

Another burning issue in Sony Sugar is the alleged insistence by Dalmas Otieno that a company called Kinda Group should be in partnership with Sony Sugar by way of providing tractors for the transportation. But what is rather strange, is that the Kinda Group wanted the Sony Sugar to be their guarantees for the finances. This sounded irregular and unprocedural.

All the companies involved in the transportation of row cane from the field to the Awendo based factory are in partnership with Sony Sugar. But these company’s or individual must source their own finances from the lending commercial banks and other financial institutions without involving Sony Sugar in such deals.

A source says, the Kinda Group idea of working in partnership came only after the recently concluded Nyanza Economic Forum, which was held in Kisumu. But the group appear to be having no proper financial arrangement, but is banking on Sony Sugar to stand as their guarantees. But farmers have vehemently objected to this idea. They are insisting that Sony should secure finances for the purchasing tractors from either the Kenya Sugar Board, AFC or the government.

Sugar cane now says their fate hangs in the hands of the Prime Minister as the only person who can free them from the bondage of gross political interference in the management of Sony Sugar, which to them is the source of their livelihood and a sacred cows. The company, they said must be free from political machinations and maneuvering by politically connected cartel of business mogul who are out for quick kills.

Event Description:
Dear Partner,

Purple Images is in the process of organizing the 2nd National Bar Hostess AIDS Conference slated for October 27th – 28th. The 1st conference was first organized in 2006 and was a success with kind support from Ministry of Health, Hivos Netherlands, Legal Refource Foundation , East African Breweries Ltd, National Aids Control Council , Kenya AIDS NGOS Consortium , and the World Health Organization, which attracted local and international publicity with the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC (www.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa /4783631.stm) and CNN, Reuters, China and French media giving the conference International attention. The upcoming conference is already gathering support from the media, Communication Initiative Network and other partners(www.comminit.com/en/node/273507)
The main objective of the conference is to reach a high risk group to promote behavior change communication to reduce the incidence and the impact of HIV/AIDS and sexual violence among bar maids while bringing into the public lime light and policy issues that affect bar maids such as employment conditions.
With regard to sexual violence, bar hostesses are socially stigmatized and discriminated. Most bar patrons regard bar hostesses as third rate citizens and often as mere sex objects to be abused. The bar hostess profession is socially stigmatized by health officials and the police in particular are known to harass bar hostesses as either “disease carriers or criminals.’ A majority bar hostesses have found themselves exposed to all forms of Sexual Violence including forced and unprotected sex and physical Sexual Violence from their supervisors, employers, the police and even their clients and partners. Apart from the forced sex, some bar hostesses are daily physically assaulted and raped while others voluntarily have one or more sexual partners in one day.

In this regard, The Kenya Bar Hostess Aids Programme and Purple Images Productions have organized the second two–day national conference on Bar Hostess and HIV/AIDS and Sexual Violence. The theme of the conference is “Towards Empowering Bar Hostesses to Fight HIV/AIDS and Sexual Violence.

TRADE WAR LOOMS AS SOUTH AFRICA BANS KENYAN AVOCADOS EXPORTS

Commodity News
Analysis By Leo Odera Omolo

A trade row between Kenya and South Africa is reportedly simmering following the failure to resolve an administrative barrier that has seen Kenyan exports to the regional powerhouse shrink drastically over the last week.

The Business Daily a Kenyan businesses journal has reported in its Tuesday  edition.

At issue is what Kenyan exporters consider a non administrative trade barrier that has virtually blocked avocados from accessing the Kshs 150 million a year market in the Republic of South Africa. That country has instituted the measure saying the product posed a fruit fly threat to the country.

Since the ban was imposed in April last year Kenya has lost 80 percent of its fresh avocado exports going down the to South.

The South Africa’s imports inspection body raised the phytosanitary issues which Kenya exporters see as a form of protectionism.

Although the partial ban was attributed to a fruit fly threat, the CEO of the Fresh Products Exporters Association of Kenya (FPEAK) Dr.Stephen Mbithi said fruit flies affect avocados from all African countries and did not warrant such punitive action.

Avocado export are big business fro Kenya accounting for Kshs 2.2 billion in direct export annually “pwerte” is the leading export variety followed by “Hass”

South Africa alone imports fresh avocados worth Kshs 150 million annually which  are mainly used in the foods and cosmetics industry 80 per cent of exports to South Africa represent Kshs 120 million in earnings which have been lost due to trade barriers.

The ban, according to Business daily, a publication of the Nation Group of Newspapers is now raising eyebrows as some players in the trade see it as an illegal way of protecting the South Africa avocado industry.

Exports say that the South Africa government has been known to resort to non-tariff trade barriers as a way of protecting the industries from external competition

“They are breaking into agreement because they are trying to protect their industry by banning imports,” said Dr.M.Mbithi.

However, the South African government may be legally using a provision in international l trade  laws that allows countries to institute trade barriers in certain circumstances” international laws allow countries to protect themselves from hazardous imports that threaten their crops and this is what the south Africans government has used,” said Mr. Edward Maina of the Horticultural crop Development Authority marketing Manager. South Africa is also a major producer of avocado with most of its exports going to Europe.

However the avocado industry in South Africa is said to be seasonal due to the pressure of very cold winters, leading to very low production. The production season for the country avocados is only yielding between March and October.

Kenya on the other hand enjoys the equatorial climate and avocado trees in the country produce all year round accounting fro a big percentage of horticultural exports.

Main production areas around Mt.Kenya and the North Rift. The country exporters are now working with the Agricultural and Trade Ministries to resolve the issue.

Kenya phytosanitary institution ,the Kenya plant Health Inspectorate Services (KEPHIS) has been working to have avocados exports to South Africa have been affected since some exporters have started adding value for their avocado exports by extracting oils from them and exporting it.

“we have been affected by the ban since we export extracted avocado oil only” a Mr.J.Patel from Sunny processors Ltd.

Value addition fro avocados have been catching on the export industry for the last five years since it started.

After the EU the USA is the second most important importing market for avocados with a local consumption is 700g/capita and rising.

Midnight deadline

This week, we saw the stark differences between Barack Obama and John McCain on the economy.

With Wall Street in crisis and families struggling, Barack offered a solid plan to strengthen the middle class, including tax cuts for nearly all Americans.  John McCain continued the same old politics — lying about Barack’s plan and offering more of the same George Bush policies, including more tax breaks for Big Oil and no solutions for working families.

It’s time for that kind of politics to change.  And thanks to supporters like you, our movement has grown by more than 50,000 new donors this week.  Now we’re within reach of a new goal — 100,000 new donors by midnight tonight.

With just 45 days left before the election, your support will affect crucial decisions about infrastructure in key battleground states.  A donation now could have a big impact on voter registration and Get Out The Vote operations — so please don’t wait if you’re planning to give.

And if you make your first online donation today, your gift will go twice as far. A previous donor has promised to match every dollar you donate.

A matched donation of $5 becomes $10, a donation of $25 becomes $50, and a donation of $50 will become $100.

Show your support before midnight tonight and double your impact:

Video: How we’re going to win

Obama for America

Hello:

Want a look inside our strategy to win the battleground states?

I recorded a video on my laptop yesterday to brief you on the plan — including
details that haven’t been shared publicly before.

Our fight in the battleground states is going to be tougher than a lot of
you may think.  Take Florida, where George Bush won by just 381,000 votes
in 2004.  The campaign we’re running there is going to cost more than
$39 million.

That can only come from supporters like you — unlike John McCain, we don’t
take money from Washington lobbyists or special interest PACs.

To reach our goal, we need 50,000 new donors by Friday at midnight.

And if you make your first online donation today, your gift will go twice
as far. A previous donor has promised to match every dollar you donate.

A matched donation of $5 becomes $10, a donation of $25 becomes $50, and
a donation of $50 will become $100. Watch the video and double your impact
today:

https://donate.barackobama.com/strategy2

This race has come down to a matter of weeks, and it could pivot on a few
tremendously important swing states.

Supporters like you are strengthening this campaign in amazing ways — voter
registration efforts, organizing in your communities, and bringing folks into
the political process like never before.

Barack and Joe can’t win this without you.

Make a donation of $5 or more right now to provide the resources we’ll need
to make victory a reality:

https://donate.barackobama.com/strategy2

This campaign is committed to winning in every state we can.  But it’s
the support of folks like you that will decide this election.

Re: A thought provoking Ad!

As the world comes into grips with the financial turmoil, I saw an advertisement yesterday that got me thinking. It read: “If you got an egg, we have got a nest!”

The intend of the ad,is to invite customers to invest their money in this particular bank! Invest? Is it safe to invest money anymore?

Those with money, have found themselves asking hard questions this week! Somehow they have found themselves worrying of loosing money! In this one talk show, I heard the host asking a listener if he felt secure to have his money in the bank anymore! The answer was a flat no!

As a pastor, I would like to flame the ad so as to read:

“If you got a desire to go to heaven, I got the solution!”

Know what! I have taken time to reflect on this world over and over. Here is what keeps on popping up!

1.Whether we like it or not, this world will sure come to end one day
2.Every single day, I see the fulfillment of Bible prophecy
3.Things can change just like that. All the big companies that have been respected for many years are now at the very bottom!

It therefore goes without saying that let us invest in the heavenly kingdom whereby we will never be disappointed. Let us think less of this world and more on the heavenly issues.

I am truly willing to stay closer to my God!

How about you my dear friend!

KENYA’S CALSIFYING POLITICAL GANGRENE..

Dear Editor,

NB: Kenya¢s Calcifying Political Gangrene.

Politics in Kenya is awash with the celebrity impingement syndrome. In fact politics in Kenya is not a science that helps tackle the nation¢s challenges but is a celebrity sport that pits one group against another for competition purposes.
The current ethnic complexity of our societal re-modification seems to be a political abducting culture, worse for the nation.
The ever-fighting individual politicians whose assimilation only promotes lateral societal disintegration are exacerbating such national metastasis.
Political parties¢ acute cosmetic selectiveness is literally killing our homemade democracy and promoting adverse corruption and inequality.
We have seen political leaders being ¡nominated¢ by parties for by-elections on Kin-smith grounds when their next of kin die. This acute miscalculation creates room for sympathy elections and votes without considering leadership qualities as merit. Government and Parastatal heads are hired and fired at will to create room for cronies.
These and many more, including placement of unqualified journalists, TV and radio presenters and other so-called ¡celebs¢ by politicians for self-gain and romance is greatly contributing to this deficit. For example, the jigger fight is being re-defined in the celebrity world from its health-based socio-ethical and moral facet to a defeating populist contest.

Our politicians have thus introduced iatrogenic and wholly symptomatic means to advance their elusive competitive careers and destructive five-year worth. They do this by dislodging the roles of government and public institutions that have the capacities to face them head-on.

This nasocomial political ventures being infused into our ethnic veins would continue to break into our immediate societal values that make us not live as one, if we continue to worship such leaders. On the other hand sequential beneficiaries end up being what they are not only to marginalize those who deserve most.

The etiologically young that need parental mentorship are reduced into this ¡political world¢ by being enticed with crude incentives, recruiting agencies, promotion firms and institutions of higher learning, to help cross-over this sectarian social pre-occupation.

Certainly, the youth from poor economic backgrounds have no future. Yet the government and politicians continue to deceive and fleece their basic human rights. They only live as victims of their political masters with severely lacerated future. Our politicians¢ non-issues that touch on party, constituency and national leadership have overshadowed the youth.

On party politics, politicians are obsessed with ownership and leadership at the expense of policy changes, political goodwill and promoting national unity.

In fact wives of heads of such parties are given massive allowances and are used as stepping-stones on the walls of State House for popularity purposes. Conclusively they are but a liability to the taxpayers.

Such ideologies and political culture seem rather deceiving in our already deprived environment with widespread poverty, disease, unemployment, poor infrastructure, tribalism and ineffective developmental and economic policies for its people.

Thus, ordinary Kenyan citizens should not allow to be tethered by our politicians¢ populist sectarianism at the expense of equitable development, national unity and professionalism in society.
The culture of everyone calling oneself CEO for self gain and political reasons should end.

Regards,
Mundia Mundia Jnr.

These assertions, especially comparing Moi to Mandela, exemplify lack of understanding and disrespect to historical facts and are highly misplaced.

I would like to inform Mr. Otum that for 24 years, former President Moi’s government besides running our economy down and preaching tribalism in reverse; he presided over massive human indignities and loss of life. The precursor to 2007 election related violence were experimented during Moi’s rule as evidenced with 1992 Rift Valley tribal clashes, Likoni clashes and Wagalla massacres.

Extra judicial killings were perfected under Moi’s reign where security personnel spelled insecurity to their innocent citizens. Remember how many Kenyans died in the clamor for multi-partyism? It was during Moi’s watch that the country lost progressive leaders like Foreign Minister, Robert ouko, Archibishop Alexander Muge and Father Kaiser simply they had dissenting voice.

During Moi’s rule discussions on social injustices was punishable by Kidnapping and enforced disappearance or life sentences. How many journalists were tortured, maimed or killed for practicing truth telling?

Moi has never repented over the Nyayo house torture chambers and the crimes against humanity perpetrated under his government orders. That Moi celebrated his 85th birthday only makes me wonder how many of those who died or those they left behind would have equally wanted a long life. During his rule Kenyans were oppressed, kidnapped, tortured and detained without trial. Does Mr. Otum have any idea how many became widows, orphans or mentally ill during Moi’s rule? Moi’s sporadic appearance and public commentaries are actions of a man who is in the cold and misses the public limelight.

There is a lot that Mandela loses if he is compared to Moi. Moi rightly belongs to the company of former presidents Kamuzu Banda, Mobutu Sesseko or Idi Amin. I am of the opinion if Moi’s claim that he is a Christian be true, he should publicly confess to and repent for the inhumanities he put this country especially to families who lost their loved ones and spend his retirement reciting rosary for God’s forgiveness over having misused his power.

With the benefit of hind sight, I can now effectively respond to the article by George Nyongesa on President [Rtd] Moi.

In so responding, I want to play the devils advocate and praise Moi for having led Kenya in those 24 good old days. George says that Moi ran down our economy, I beg to differ. Under Moi, people had money. The social places were active and Kenyans were alot more friendly because they could spend.

In the 24 years that Mzee Moi was President in Kenya, he kept the prices of all, yes, all essential commodities at affordable prices. Not once did even Bunge La Mwananchi members have any reason to demonstrate on account of high and unaffordable prices of food items.

Between 1978 and 2002 when we ejected Mzee and replaced him with the current one, the price of Unga went up by only Ksh 22.00. In 1978, Unga was selling at Kshs 2.40, while in 2002 as Mzee was leaving office, Unga was retailing at Kshs 25.00.

Compare that to what Unga is retailing at now; Kshs 85.00, a price that made George and other colleagues demonstrate on account of high food prices. If I were to be asked who between the two I would vote for now, readily, most people, I included, would vote overwhelmingly for Mzee Moi.

If Moi could manage to maintain such prices of basic items at that low price, what do you have to say of his economic management? Who between him abd Kibaki has brought down the economy of the country down?

If in 24 years, the prices of essential items increased at less than a shilling per year under Mzee Moi, then what do you say of astronomical increases of basic items under our current economic genius? I bet Kibaki has got it all wrong on the economic front. Or is it just strategic?

George talks about tribalism. I bet in 1975 he might not have been around to see what tribalism was. All spheres of the Kenyan body politics and state corporations were headed by mandarins from the same region. But when Mzee Moi came to the scene in 1978, he came up with regional balancing. He made all his appointments based on regional balance. His regional balance in most cases did not come in with corresponding merit. But all the same, most regions were well represented in his administration.

Then Kibaki came in in 2002, and immediately took Kenya back to the pre-Moi times. Public service became the immediate preserve of the chosen few from the one tribe. I really doubt if George is able to see what goes on now, even under the presumed Government of National Unity.

On the corruption front, Mzee Moi fared on modestly. The kind of scums Kenya witnessed under Moi in 24 years are child play compared to what we have gone through as a country under Mzee Kibaki. Kenya is yet to come to full terms with the truth behind Anglo Leasing.

As we marvel at this, the current ongoings at Central Bank of Kenya are such massive issues that Mwatela had to be removed. If there is one administration that know how to play Public Relations as it loots the countries coffers, then this is it.

The country has been such massively looted that the cost of leaving has become unbearable. When you think about the children who are exposed to this kind of life, you shudder with rage at how they will cope up.

The Kibaki adminstration is making Kenyans to resort to crime for survival. The Kibaki adminstration does not care at all about the plight of the ordinary mwananchi. Our children are growing staring at crime and prostitution as the best option in life.

Look at the level of phornography that the country has seen under Mzee Kibaki. We have to be truthful. Life is absolutely bad under Mzee Kibaki. Our kids are such exposed to bad ways that in their role models, they see thieves, pimps and charlatans; people who thrive in disobeying the law, and nothing happens to them. They are instead lofted to higher office.

Is this the kind of society we want for our children? A society where role models are lacking? A society where thieves thrive in their ways? A society where the high and the mighty are a law unto themselves? A society where the police engage in blatant crime? A society where justice is denied to the deserving?

No.

Come to the prices of fuel. What did Moi get right for all those 24 years that Kibaki has failed on completely. When Mzee Moi left the scene, super was retailing at Kshs 38.00. 6 years down the line, the same super is retailing at Kshs 108.00.

I cannot, with the benefit of this history, blame Moi on the economy, tribalism and corruption. He was by far the better manager.

Kenyans have been killed in circumstances that defy logic. Pio Pinto, TJ Mboya, JM Kariuki, Bruce McKenzie, Kitili Mwendwa and others under Mzee Kenyatta. Then more Kenyans were killed; Robert Ouko, Horrace Ongili, and others under Mzee Moi. And yet more Kenyans have been killed; Odhiambo Mbai, Mugabe Were, David Too and others under Mzee Kibaki.

Between the three of them, who is a saint. Kenyatta has his fair share of explanations to do. So does Moi and Kibaki.

In the final day of judgement, God the Almighty will ask them; I gave you my sheep to shepherd, and on sunset, this number were missing under your watch. Can you account?

Repenting for some of these things is another thing. We have Bishops who have left the ways of God, yet every Sunday, they are the first ones in church.

What would you say about John Cardinal Njue who is running down the once vibrant and respected Catholic Church?

There are 4 things an effective leader should always avoid, conjecture, bias, inflexibility, and conceit. Kenyatta WAS a crook, dishonest, he used his position of power for his own personal advantage. Kibaki IS a thief and a crook too, kibaki and his guys are the people who bought Grand regency hotel. The Libyians are just a cover up. History is the best teacher and as per today the best president Kenya have had is Hon. Daniel Arap Moi. With the little education this Nilotic Kalenjin man had, he still knew what democracy really is. Mr. Moi gave Kenyans the freedom of choosing their own president, infact what Moi did in the year 2002 when KANU lost election will be remembered for alot of years and a lot of generations to come. Just imagine if Mr. Moi would have done what Kibaki did in 2007 election or what MUGABE did in Zimbabwe how many zeroos numbers would have been added on Kenyan shillings by now?.

The economy picked up during Kibak`s time in 2003 at first because of the international community investments after 2002 election results and good tranfer of power peacefully. But once the international community saw that it was just the thieves who have got the power, then you can see what happened. I do not have to tell you what happened, because Mr. Odhiambo have already mentioned almost all the important things below. Ladies and gentlemen, Kenyan economy is heading nowhere. The blind people will not see it, but anybody with open mind and looking ahead will know what I am talking about. The inflation in Kenya is very high and the constant thieves in Kibaki`s backyard will not allow any ordinary Kenyans to have money in their pockets or even to feed their children well. IT IS JUST SURVIVAL IN KENYA TODAY, NOTHING ELSE. Just look at even how secondary school boys and girls have already detected that things are not going on well in the country. And all saw their reactions. Why didn`t they react during Mr. Moi`s time?.

We still miss Mr. Daniel Arap Moi, this Kibaki tosha and Kibaki again, and the coalition Kibaki are just a DISFUNTIONAL MESS.

Where do people like Paul Nyandoto live on this planet. How come I never meet some of these guys live live so that I can drain the madness in them and make them sober again. Paul Your display of utter lack of command of the subject you embarked on is shockiing. What are you telling us, you are standing there telling Kenyans that “With the little education this Nilotic Kalenjin man had, he still knew what democracy really is ( Nyandoto you are saying that Moi knew what Democracy was? My God what has become of the English language and democratic theory?) . “Mr.Moi gave Kenyans the freedom of choosing their own president, infact ( what are you talking about, are you insane or you are high on drugs?) “what Moi did in the year 2002 when KANU lost election will be remembered for a lot of years and a lot of generations to come” ( why will it be remembered? Come ON tell me what are the options Moi had!)

“There are 4 things an effective leader should always avoid, conjecture, bias, inflexibility, and conceit”. This is unbelievable! What is this Paul you are writing for us to read do you think we are idiots or what now?.

Why should a leader avoid? A leader should be distinguished by;
1. His/Her Clarity of the group s/he leads and clarity about the challenges of leading, the handling of the issues that leadership must deal with.
2. His/ Her Conviction to stand for the right and punish the wrong or bad; stand for justice and fight vices and evil.
3. Courage to do and serve without fear
4. Compassion to feel for the poor and the weak
5. Committment to the principles and values of public office
6. Change agent

These are the 6Cs of leadership. And check out, that is why Obama is the Presidential Candidate the Democratic Party. These are the issues that are being assessed when Americans are rallying behind Obama or the other one.

On these 6Cs, Kenyatta, Kibaki, and Moi are a disastrous show. They were and are still known for malice, avarice, vice, lies, deceit, vengeance, hate, saddism. that list continues. That is Why I campaigned for Raila Odinga last year and voted for him. And I believe he was barred from being the president because a coup was staged by the PNU team. I thought that on teh balance of things, He (Raila) faired much better on these six (6) Cs better than Kenyatta, Moi and Moi-Kibaki. Why did you support Raila Paul Nyandoto? Is it because he avoids “conjecture, bias, inflexibility, and conceit”?

SO Paul why can’t you and Odhiambo Oketch just stand up and shout loud “I HATE KIKUYUS, I HATE KIKUYUS”!!! AND MAKE THE STORY SHORT! INSTEAD OF USING FORUMS TO SPEW GARBAGE AND INNUENDO AND CALL IT ARGUMENTATION OR REASONING?

From the blues, you drop my name into your piece. I do not mind that.

I took my time to respond to the piece by George, because I wanted to know what people think.

In this case also, I want to absorb the input from Kenyans and friends of Kenya.

I talked with George last night and he even congratulated me on the facts. Just like you are, George is a friend too. Let us have a friendly debate, managed by points and facts.

If you have any facts, just table the same. Time has come for Kenyans to be truthful with ourselves. In so being truthful, let us not hate each other, or fight each other.

The Good books says that stick with the truth and it shall set you free.

I must congratulate George for being candid and honest with me last night.

MINISTER SCOFFS AT PRESS REPORTS

By JEEF OTIENO IN KISUMU

Ndhiwa member of parliament who is also an assistant minister for internal security Joshua Orwa Ojode has dismissed claims in a section of the press that his political graph was fast diminishing ahead of the forthcoming Orange Democratic Movement party’s (ODM) grassroots elections.

“I have no time exchanging in the press with political novices operating on the streets of Nairobi, whoever wants to gauge my political might should wait until 2012,” he thundered on telephone.

A group which he described as amorphous has been engaging the MP in endless press battles at the expense of his Ndhiwa voters.

Mr Ojode caused laughter during a recent colourful fundraiser in aid of three churches where a staggering Kshs 4 million was raised with his personal donation of Ksh1.2 million.

“Where are these paper tigers now that we are fundraising,” he gloated amid laughter from the crowd.

In an interesting turn of events Ojode’s rival Mr Ted Odero who unsuccessfully contested for the Ndhiwa seat in the last elections threw his weight behind the minister.

“The people of Ndhiwa are tired of political rhetoric’s let us rally behind Ojode for development during his tenure,” Mr Odero said during a separate telephone interview.

Meanwhile, a Nairobi based communication expert Eng Job Ndege over the weekend helped to raise Ksh100,000 in aid of Manyatta Baptist Church.

Ndege who is the General Manger of ALSAT Company Limited gave a personal donation of Ksh25,000. During the occasion the Eng appealed to the local MP Shakeel Shabir to fulfill his last general election pledges if he is a ‘gentleman’

On education, he urged the community to shun girl child abuse which is rampant in the area adding that he will team with other development partners to facilitate on sensitization to eradicate the negative trend.

Re: Affairs of the Central Bank of Kenya

Kenyans,

In my opinion the problem is that CBK appointments are not merit based. Mr. Nyangito is an agricultural economists with no prior experience in monetary and fiscal affairs, why should he be at the
CBK? There are so many capable Kenyan Economists with Fiscal amd monetary expertise to manage the institution.

Competence of those folks at the helm of CBK is highly questionable. Any serious economist can detect this, the research department is quite dormant. Globally central banks are knowledge factories in country specific macroeconomic and financial markets issues and do have have active and relevant knowledge creating research departments. At the CBK, they value desk officers!

With a green horn on matters of finance and fiscal policy, they have cemented their path to the country’y coffers with no inhibitions, and no limitations. What Kenyans are going to wake up to is a scam more bigger than Goldenberg and Anglo leasing combined.

Mungatana says political ‘rejects’ won’t help PNU in 2012
Published on
By Boniface Gikandi And Daniel Nzia

Medical Services Assistant Minister Danson Mungatana has poured cold water on those organising PNU’s recruitment drive, calling them political opportunists.

Mr Mungatana said termed the organisers political rejects returning from the political cold.

The Narc-Kenya Secretary-General called on wananchi to ignore the recruitment, saying PNU comprised of affiliate parties and not individual members.

Mr Mungatana spoke at Karung’e Primary School in Murang’a North District, where he officially launched a programme by Ahadi Trust and the Public Health Department to counter jigger infestation among pupils in 14 primary schools in Mathioya.

The Garsen MP said: “PNU will not go anywhere since its affiliate parties have distanced themselves from the recruitment exercise”.

“If they fail to listen, ODM will have an easy ride in the 2012 General Election,” he said.

Mungatana accused some PNU politicians of shielding President Kibaki from understanding that PNU had lost touch on the ground.

Elsewhere, a PNU official has scoffed at the announcement by nine MPs from Meru that they had “defected” from PNU, saying that will not shake the party.

Speaking to The Standard on telephone, PNU Ukambani coordinator Mwengi Mutuse said the recruitment would help PNU strengthen its hold and put in place proper systems in readiness for 2012.

Assistant Ministers Kareke Mbiuki (Nithi), Kilemi Mwiria (Tigania), MPs Silas Muriuki (North Imenti), Alex Muiru (Tharaka) and Mithika Linturi (Igembe South) said at the weekend they would name their new party in a few weeks time.

President McCain? Switch On The Burton Of Your Imagination & Act.

People Of The World,

I send you greetings from my 10th great grandfather Ragem, who like Karua asks you to stitch on the burton of your imagination. lets roll.

During the recently concluded Beijing Olympic Marathon races we saw an athlete lead through and through, leaving the chase pack 800m to 5K behind, then they won. Now imagine how it would feel if after leading the race through and through, like Kenya’s Samuel Wanjiru did, you entered the stadium and found the competitor you thought you left behind at mile 23, finishing his victory lap before you. This is what happened to our very own Catherine Ndereba. She did not received the rousing welcome as she entered the ‘Birds Nest.’  As she raised her head seeking answers why the rousing welcome was absent, she realized her terrible mistake. Constantina Tomescu was finishing her race. Ndereba had dropped a little behind as the lead pack had surged on. She used her stamina and endurance to catch up with them and then accelerated to leave them behind. In accelerating she used one of her secret strategy – hold your head down and maintain the fast pace until all the challengers fall behind, or so she thought..

As a sportsman, I did not feel sorry for Ndereba, because in all fairness, she made a mistake and price by getting silver instead of gold. I also know she has won many marathons for herself and Kenya for which we are very proud.

However this is what happened to Raila, but unlike Ndereba’s situation, there was no challenger in the stadium when he entered, and indeed he received the thunderous welcome. Instead of getting the gold medal, it was given to Kibaki who was over 500K votes behind and Raila had to fight to even get the silver medal. To this day, I feel sorry and ashamed for Raila and as a Kenyan respectively, because I did not do enough to ensure safe elections and prevent the violence and the chaos that followed.

The depression that followed was massive exacerbated by the killings that followed, first by police, then by civilian against civilian. For weeks, I and many of my friends in either side of the divide were depressed. Some have not yet recovered from this. I learnt a lesson I will never forget and which I want to apply to the current affairs.

The US election campaigns are in high gear, and my 10th great grandfather Ragem, alludes to me that the number of Africans and People Of The World who are naturing an Obama presidency is almost 100%. I am unashamedly one of them, but here I would like you to turn on the button of your imagination.

Obama’s hereditary linage can be traced to my 5th great grandfather Mumbe, but I am not saying it. Therefore my 10th great has a right to predict that Obama will defeat McCain hands down. However, we will not know the US 2008 presidential election winner with certainty in more than 5 weeks, perhaps because of KYVUITu or Kentucky, Virginia, Utah, Indiana & Tennessee. Floridians like Kalenjins will vote right since they do not make the same mistake twice.

I am certain you have dismissed these prediction as silly. But let us for a moment just imagine it is Nov 4th at 11:00pm and there is no projection of a winner. How will your emotions do?

My 10th predicted right that the winner of Kenya’s 2007 elections would not be known outright. He was right. If I believed in the possibility, I would have been prepared for what followed. The experience we went through as Kenyans, and if we can believe in the possibility of an Obama loss even with 1% certainty, we’ll be able to live through 4 more years of the McCain & Palin.

Obama say’s in his website: “I am asking you to believe. Not just in my ability to bring change in Washington…. I am asking you to believe in yours”. Do you? If you do, but do nothing to help, will you have the patience the endurance and the stamina to wait 4 more years to do it?

All things being equal, I believe in my ability to bring about change by voting McCain and the Republicans out and I have the courage to ask you on behalf of Barack. However, politics is not religion and is said to be a dirty game. I have seen what McCain, Palin and the Republicans can do, while like Gandhi or MLK, Obama tries to play clean politics. Some of us choose not to see Bill O’Reily and hide in the comfort of Keith Olbermann. Do not be fooled, like Okondo or Okoth Otura, both are extreme and yes, they may be related if you notice what I do.

Unless we begin to act as requested by those emails Obama-Biden campaign keep sending to us regarding making calls, forwarding emails, canvasing and registering voters, we may sit around the TV one evening and see our candidate’s victory slip away from our fingertips.

I am certain by now you have activate the button of your imagination, and can see this happening. The good thing is that you can still do something, unlike the Kenya situation whereby we could not vote. You can also do nothing, and in this case activate the button of your imagination and visualize McCain giving his victory speech.

The next morning you will be required to report to work, and I am sure you will feel just fine. Perhaps you can also decide to be non aligned, and when the result finally come, you will feel fine. Just fine because you will wisely be prepared and avoid what temporarily halted Raila juggernaut.

Anxiety grips sugar firm as chairman quits
Updated on: Wednesday, September 17, 2008
Story by: By Juma Aluoch and Titus Maero

ANXIETY has gripped South Nyanza Sugar Company (SONY) following the surprise resignation of board chairman. Herbert Ojuang resigned citing alleged frustration by a senior minister from the region. He cited among others, an alleged scrap metal deal for a firm which the he claimed minister wanted him to have unilaterally awarded without the board’s approval. Ojuang resigned in a letter dated September 15, 2008 to the minister for Agriculture William Ruto, and copied to the Head of Public Service and the permanent secretary in the ministry of Agriculture.

Meanwhile, operations at Mumias Sugar Company were crippled as cane cutters’ strike entered its second day yesterday. The over 14,000 harvesters have vowed not to resume duty unless they were paid salary arrears by MSC amounting to millions of shillings. They said they were awarded the increment two years ago but MSC only started paying them the new rates this year. The cutters who assembled at their zones, told reporters the new salary should have been backdated by two years.

One of the cutters, Simon Waswa, said they were owed millions of shillings by the miller given the large number of cutters in the area. Waswa said the cutters are drawn from Mumias, Butere and Busia districts. Cane transporting companies kept their haulage tractors in their yards awaiting communication from MSC management on the way forward. At the same time, eight directors of Mumias Sugarcane Out growers Company (MOCO) yesterday defended the chief executive officer (CEO) of the company against claimed of mismanaging the firm.
