KENYA: TEAM SPIRIT, HUMILITY AND TACT: SOLUTIONS TO THE 10 DEADLY SINS

From: Faulu Suba

When the RH Prime Minister talked the other day in Ndhiwa about other communities getting scared at the behaviour of the Luo in case he became the president, he brought out what has been in murmurs over time.

The conclusions of others might be based on mis-perceptions but there are incidences which are quoted namely:

1) ‘Sirkal’ fans throwing stones at all and sundry whether it wins or looses;

2) Many a luo man engaging in contests for hearts with others and openly bragging about snatching others girlfriends, daughters and at times wives;

3) Openly boasting about achievements in social gatherings making others shy away from socializing with them;

4) Openly degrading others e.g. magi to kono ji ang’o, dak ne wanene Makerere ndalo mane wasomo kuno;

5) Impunity e.g. kama itiyoe e ma ichieme, be isemuko kamoro?

6) Merry making at the discomfort of others e.g parting with loud music at the detriment of a goood nights rest by neighbours;

7) Always thinking aloud;

8) Know it all attitude; and many other behaviors that all biol down to LACK OF HUMILITY and TACT. These are not cultural traits and I know many of us are tactful and humble but a few of us engaging in the behaviors in each neighbourhood in Kenya can make generalizations which have some basis.

I personally support and I know many of us support the call by RH Raila for behaviour change. Positive change will come when we embrace Godliness and it is time we went back to GOD.

    THE PM’s CALL

    The PM’s call for behavior change by the Luo community is timely and should have been made by all of us not just him long time ago. While it is our culture to engage in joyful ”nyadhi” in our day-to-day way of life our ”nyadhi” jokes indeed may not be appreciated let alone understood by other communities.

    I am adding the fact that whether we were seen at the compus or whether we attended Alliance High School or Maseno National School will not help build our country but humility will.

    The little jokes we might be gleefully cracking at other people might accumulate into a crecsendo leading to ”London burning” at the behest of those who are tribally or racially gleefully marginalised.

    See who shoots who at the schools in the USA for as simple reason as the colour of the skin.

    Arrogant jokes can indeed turn meek humble boys into killers overnight.

    Beware the Ides of March should Nyalkwar Ngire take over the presidency!

    We should remember that our great humble Lord did neither attend Alliance High School nor was He at the compus with the proud arrogant amongst us.

    Should he take over leadership we should stand tall and be counted amongst those who shun corrution, theft, impunity and crimes that go with the vices.

    Humility pays.

    Thank you!
