KENYA: RAILA’S ALLY TO LAUNCH “YES” CAMPAIGN IN KISUMU

Youthful Kisumu based business magnate and prime minister’ long term political ally is to launch a massive and vigorous campaign in the lakeside city of Kisumu and it’s environ to drum up support for the proposed draft constitution, soon.

Abdul Omar, who was instrumental for the ODM campaigns in the run up to 2007 elections, said that Kenyans have waited for two decades for the new constitutional dispensation and its realization is long overdue.

And that those who are opposed to it are harbouring self interest at the expense of the national good. Speaking during the fund raiser in aid of the youths in Kisumu, the pragmatic Abdul added that the draft constitution is over 90 percent good and that the contentious parts can be amended aftermath:

“Let us adopt the constitution as it is ….. the constitution is not static but dynamic world over and therefore subject to amendments” said Abdul on the divisive clauses of the draft.

To ensure that the draft sails through in the referendum, he told the youth – being the majority of the voters – to cash in on the ongoing registration of voters exercise to register in large numbers and cast their vote for the “YES” side in the offing plebiscite.

Abdul, who is associated with numerous youth development projects in Kisumu town and has voiced his interest to vie for Kisumu town west parliamentary seat in the come general elections, moved the crowd to stitches when he cautioned the youth to desist from the culture of handouts popularly known as GONYWA,as a yardstick for measuring good people.

“You always want to reap what didn’t sow and you are ever ready to receive it religiously as if it is your basic right” he said to the laughter of the jubilant crowd.

A total of 600,000 shillings was realized with Abdul, in addition to his financial contribution, donated several bags of cements, iron sheets among other building materials.

The fund raiser was attended by PM son Fidel Odinga and the former chairman of the outlawed sect, Maina Njenga.

Cheered throughout his speech, charismatic Abdul revealed, in the sidelines of the meeting that he has lined up several projects for the youth and is rolling out one before the end of the year.

Asked what he will do for the constituency if elected as an MP, he said that with the existence of CDF funds, he will make proper use of it by employing professionals and also consultants to advice further.

For this will make it a downhill task, to engage directly with the people on the ground to know what their needs are-directly and indirectly.

    Kosse should learn to be objective in his writing and not to be a sycophant who writes anything as long as he is paid.

    Why would CDF be used to employ professionals and consultants to advice further? Now do you want to tell us that CDF would be spent on needs assessement? Isnt CDF released to an already identified need in the community? Mr. Abdul, I believe that by association with the numerous youth development projects within Kisumu West, you already have an inkling as to where CDF would be directed. Please give us a good reason to back you for the Kisumu West seat.
