Kenya: KISUMU veteran journalist is bereaved in a river drowning tragedy

LEO ODERA OMOLO, A Kisumu based veteran freelance journalist, has lost one of his sons in a mysterious drowning tragedy.

Boaz Jakotayer Omori Odera, 37 year old primary school teacher at Piny Owacho Primary School in Rapogi Division, Uriri district died this morning {Thursday 3 June} at about 9AM while crossing a small shallow water stream in the village as he walked to his place of work about 2 kilometer from his rural Rapogi village home.

The young Odera was also budding journalist following in his father’s foot steps. He was practicing the trade as a freelance writer in addition to his teaching profession and was regular contributor to the ww.jaluo.com website and also the WEEKLY CITIZEN.

THE police visited the scene of the incident, and later asked the family to remove the body from the river and take for preservation at the Rapcon Mortuary in the nearby Awendo Town while investigation is in progress to establish the cause of his death with the view to ascertain whether there was a foul play or not.

H e was married and left a wife with four children.

The family has appealed to anyone who might have witnessed any person walking a long the narrow foot path leading to the small stream with the teacher to pass such information to the police. Further details as regards funeral arrangement would be announced soon.

    Getting back to jaluo.com after a couple of years only to read the shocking news of BO’s untimely death is not anything I expected this Saturday.I am lost for words. May God comfort his family. We will surely miss his humour and comely mien.
