Amenya,

Such a defeatist attitude is what is really bringing all of us down.

A meeting sound nice and very good but have you ever tried calling on this guys to have a sitting with them?

How many forums have to be held for these people to know what they are doing is wrong? You do not have to be told walking around naked is bad for you to know its common sense so they know and they watch news everyday and they know that people are suffering but because their lot is flying around the world first class using our tax money and getting fuel for their vehicles do you think they would look at you twice?
they do not feel the pinch of the economy, me and you are the ones suffering.

The whole of Bidii Africa cannot fit into that one room and i have seen action in our campuses being taken because of the mass power. We can send a delegation to them but they will not relay the same message as we as a group of thousands would pass through the petition and/or Mass action.

Iwould rather we go Shabana Osman’s way first via petition and if this fails in the stipulated time frame we go ahead and pack the streets.
I may sound mad but i am willing to go on the streets to be heard and see change happening. Nothing comes easy and as i have stated earlier on i am tired of all this whining and doing nothing.

Be a fighter and you saying that a “a prudent discussion will make them see the need to be like other kenyans?” Thats laughable because thats supposed to be an inherent thing not one that one accrues as time goes by. Just like a personality you cannot acquire one because i have spoken one or two sweet things.

If you call them leaders, they should have had this “need” from day one of stepping into that house and change all the laws that were oppressive to the wananchi’s.

Dont go there, we are much better than that now is not the time to start having coffee’s with the enemies because if my MP -Hon Nguyai was really thinking of me, our Kikuyu roads would not have been so poorly done by a shoody contractor right under his nose, We would not be having water problems right in the village, thugs would have been a case of yesterday and need i mention our police Station in kikuyu? All you have to do is get robbed and you will pay the cops for real.

“News just in…..Helloooooooooooooooo you are bugging them, they are not supposed to be bothered….. .”

Kind regards,

Wangari Njuguna

Wangari,

I too am ready to go into the streets and be counted among the rest. Can each one of us first start with their MPs? Mine is Olago Aluoch in Kisumu Town West. Does someone have his email address? We need to get to our MPs and let them know our concerns. We elected them and therefore, we can tell them what we think. In some countries like South Africa, there is the option to recall an MP. If we had this facility here in Kenya, then MPs would be toeing the electorate line and not their own agenda. They are so fat in Parliament that I hardly hear them talking about the woes of their constituents.

Some of them have the audacity to say that they bribed their way into Parliament and therefore, they are there to recoup and make money after working so hard to earn the seat. It is of course, our fault that this happens but there is always a time when the chickens come home to roost. Civic education and poverty eradication is something the MPs will definitely not want to take root in our country. We must be able to tell our people that collecting hongo from aspiring candidates does not give us the moral authority to censure them when they are in eating mode in parliament.

So where is the petition to sign. Our MPs beginning with the 8th Parliament are the greediest leaders in the world. How could they possibly create their own service commission, chaired by themselves and executed by themselves..investigator,prosecutor,judge and executioner. This is against natural justice. Non stood up to vote against the increase including the current crop of MPs. Shame on when children are dying in their millions from malaria.

Partnership for Change Activists Wangui Mbatia and Ken Ochieng Onguka arrested for advocating for the Rights of Kenyans.

Nov 14th, 2008 by Mars Group

Activists Wangui Mbatia and Ken Ochieng Onguka arrested for advocating for the Rights of Kenyans.

Activists Wangui Mbatia and Ken Ochieng Onguka have just been arrested by the Kenya Police at Jeevanjee Gardens and have been taken to the Central Police Station where they are now being detained.

Wangui Mbatia and Ken Ochieng Onguka were arrested for distributing t- shirts on the controversial taxes for Members of Parliament , and DVD’s advocating for the full implementation of the Waki Commission Report. The activity is part of the ongoing activities by the Partnership for Change.

We understand that they will be charged with unlawful assembly this afternoon at 2.30 pm, we are not sure where, but possibly at the High Court of Kenya.

Agenda 1 of the National Accord restored our civil liberties, and arresting citizens for wearing t-shirts that say “Yes to Waki” and “No taxes for MP’S, No taxes for Us” cannot constitute a crime of unlawful assembly. Kenyans wearing these t-shirts are now in danger of being arrested. There are several of these shirts in circulation and thus several Kenyans are in danger of being arrested. The Police cannot be allowed to continue to harass peaceful Kenyan citizens.

Wangui Mbatia is the Executive Director of KENGO. The Partnership for Change is an initiative of Mars Group Kenya and the KENGO network.

Serena Williams

Serena Williams jetted into the country yesterday for a series of functions involving children.

I expected that hers will be a good show to the children however, he style of dress put me off immediately. Even to herself, she felt uncomfortable in what she had put on.

To be a good show to the children, can she dress in a manner that can inspire.

Wanabidii,

We are very fond of talking and doing nothing about it. Our politicians have day in day out done nothing but play mind tricks on us and we have done nothing about it apart form the fact that we recognize that they are taking us round and round and implementing laws and regulations that favour them. Most of them are Lawyers astonishingly, so i dont understand how they pass laws that have loophole in them.

Following this debate on taxation, i feel for Michuki and Kimunya (even if he did a shody deal).
Michuki was given the option of either pulling out some of the contents of the motion (to tax their salaries) to parliament or the whole motion was to be shot down. Of course he did the former who wouldnt want to save skin? – Rubbish-

I do believe that one person cannot change the goverment alone and Michuki can not pass the motion alone in parliament but we should be so it is up to the citizens to make their voices heard and ashame their MP’s who shamelessly call press conferences to state that they will not pay taxes as they contirbute in harambees and other functions – who doesnt?- .

Where are their constituents? They should have knocked on their doors 5 min after the press conference and ask them to relay the information to them personally. Why havent they called barazas like they do during campaign and say the same thing? They are afraid of us they know how we would react.

Kenyans we are smart but we shall sit in the comfort of our offices and sing to others how the politicians are bad and when we see mass demonstrations we say those are the idlers who have nothing better to do thats why they are out there throwing stones. You are sitted in the comfort of your office and you know you can get bank overdraft facilities when your cash runs out because you have security. What of me who was left an orphan during the post election violence?
Who said the same old murky group of politicians that was there during the kenyatta era has to be there for generations on end? Why cant we have new blood and we see how they will perform.

The state should be paying me for the good work done for the last 40 plus yrs and not the other way round. Heavily taxing me like its my fault we have accumulated debts and i am paying for them with my little salary yet i wasnt even born when they took effect?

The sooner WE show them that we are tired of being made fools of just like we thought we were voting for change in 2007 the sooner we shall redeem our country from these vultures as none of them cares about anybody.

Wanbidii we are over 10,000 members and we should wake up and stop this menace we cannot suffer anymore and i am just tired. I may not be knowledgable with the workings of the laws and the political arena but i do know when am being treated like shit. (excuse my language).

Its not about tribe mark you i am a Kikuyu and i hate what has been done by my fellowkins men but i would rahter have an Indian the minority rule over us than have my Dad whom i know is a dictator – He will get over it-. And we are from diverse communities and we shall elect whoever presents the better policies and Ideologies and one who is willing to include everyone in his plan based on merit.

I am one person but together we can do this lets call for a mass demonstration for December 12th 2008 if at all the politicians will not have done two things;

1. Give us a conclusive answer on the Waki report and the mentioned ashamed in public and the full force of the law taking effect;

2. They implement The Kenyan Community Abroad (KCA) recommendations and everyone including the president and the pm (NB: Small letters) to be taxed, no one is a demi god and we should stop making justifications and glorifying the wrong doers and acting desparate for them to work,

-Why the Hell do we pay them for then if i have to plead with them to do what i want?- I wish my bos would plead with me to work.

PS. I am not telling anyone to be violent but make our voices heard in the correct manner in form of peaceful demonstrations and petitions until even if its genrations from now my kids will benefit and find a better and accountable home to live in.

Dear Wangari,

I share your sentiments.

I would suggest we prepare a petition detailing some of the issues of concern to members, all members in support of the issues raised should confirm their names and the petition should list the members names. The petition should be forwarded to the media houses and a copy forwarded to the Presidents Office requesting for a public statement in response to the concerns raised. If we do not receive response then i think a mass action is called for.

We need to develop the principle of ‘ No taxation without representation’. When each of us pays taxes we acquire a right to demand for representation hence it is each of our rights to demand for explanation on any issue relating to governance and finance (including the hefty budgetary allocation for ‘recurrent expenditure’ for our MPs ‘salaries and allowances’.)

Wangari,

You have voiced your opinion so strongly that i am sure that everyone has now gotten the gist of your pain. Our M.Ps are just but pure business men. They invested millions of shillings and now they want their returns. This bunch of people have five year plans of how to enrich themselves. A casing point would be, why would an individual invest millions of shillings so as to get the oppurtunity to lead people? Sound so silly if you think of it.

Kimunya sold Grand Regency and we saw MPs take to the streets with their “supporters” and they even had special sessions to discuss his conduct and kick him out. The Waki report is then released, have you seen the same activities fighting for its implementation? No. Why, it does not add value to them in anyway.

Your idea for mass action is commendable and we need as a forum to get a way of being a pain to the politician. This can be through exposes that can be forwarded to as many people as possible worldwide, a list of shame that can be updated always.

It is shocking that our beautiful country is slowly slipping to the dogs as impunity rages and Kenyans suffer heavy taxation, high house rents, arbitrary busfares by touts, growing unemployment, budget proposals that are pro-rich, decaying physical infrastructure, soaring food prices, stories for decades on new constitution, escalating poverty levels, diminished life expactancy, the energy crisis, urban insecurity and the list is endless.

Lets look for a rather straight forward and simple moral to be gained from warning stories such as the above.

Basically, a better idea is for the greater majority of food commodities (except for optional “extras”) to be produced in adequate quantities and used locally in same region. Regulations to promote quality and hygiene can be more feasible to enforce. Food supply security can improve if dependance on notably long range transport is lowered.

On the technology side, consider as well the option for storage shelf life extension through irradiation / sterilization. It offers the advantage of decreased reliance upon energy intensive, rising in price, refrigeration.

Why doesn’t the government broaden the Tax range upwards? Why it is that income at 500,000 per annum is subject to same charge (30%) to income at 5,000,000 per annum?

Why are holders of constitutional offices tax exempt? The decadence of being affluent than the people they represent!

Why government imposes taxes on oil products? Kerosene, Petrol and Gas are essential products like flour, sugar and salt.

Why do companies evade taxes in the disguise of avoiding tax?

Why do we obligate 80% of our government revenues to recurring expenditure and rout non-recurrent expenditure?

Why is corruption our way of life? Did you witness a police officer accept a carrot or you offered a backhander in the last 24 hours!

KENYANS !!

Constructive civil activism should be re-ignited to keep the government on its toes. Now one wonders where proponents of grand-opposition stand on the issues of MP’s salaries including all their allowances being taxed and their accountability to the electorate–How about the “re-call” law in the new constitution ?

Politicians and 10th parliament especially appear to have taken advantage of peoples docility. The days civil society was burning were really good for Kenya And democracy was won.Members of the current grand-coalition govt are beneficiaries of that struggle and now are comfortable and complacent. They will possibly re-appear in 2012. But one wonders in 2012 with which new lies ??. They have laid their own trap !

Donors need to know that actually, taxes poor Kenyans pay are not improving their situation.Instead, we have MP’s who are Kenyans who never want to feel the pinch of paying taxes including all their allowances being taxed like other Kenyans .If MP’s as legislators cannot lead by example then for whom do they purport to make law that does not bind them ? Has the Kenyan nation embraced “the animal farm” story where some animals are “more animal” than others ! It may be assumed that the poor Kenyan public is deliberately being yoked into eternal poverty ! A poor public will have little or nothing to save and the national poverty cycle could go beyond 2030.Then how many Kenyans will live to see vision 2030 amid deepening poverty and diminishing life expectancy?

Kenyans especially urban dwellers will be yoked into eternal poverty and general sense of despondency because of the following :

1.Very expensive urban housing.Succesive independent Kenyan governments have failed to address this crucial issue that is tormenting many middle-class and absolute poor Nairobians. The Archaic, decadent housing law (the rent tribunal thing) cannot help Kenyans today.Few Kenyans can afford to own homes because of sagging incomes.Managing mortgages is a nightmare even for the few who make it.Land availabilty in urban areas is getting a foregone story and so sets in greedy Kenyan landlords without a human face. But government can create appropriate checks and balances in the housing sector through new legal mechanism, economic liberalization and private enterprise not withstanding ! .Govt must be for public good.

2.In efficient but expensive public transport system.KTN recently told the story with public transport in Nairobi. Touts have become law unto themselves but who okayed them with certificates of good conduct ? The public is quietly suffering and who should help ?

3.A de-regulated market that has mired the public into naked exploitation (a market system that see’s middle class and absolutely poor) keep off what is even basic consumption.

4.Growing unemployment

5.Insecurity especially in Nairobi’s slums. Not even simple things like community policing being bolstered to ensure security in residential areas since police force is seemingly under-resourced .

6.Lack of an energy policy that is pro-poor

7.Town and city councils whose service delivery and performance are below expectations

8.Lack of effective public representation through offices such as public ombudsperson

9.Justice especially for the ordinary Kenyan—justice system appears skewed, either delayed or denied.

10.Lack of democratic constitutional frame-work that will check excesses-such as abuse of public office & impunity inherent , guarantee free and fair elections, foster ethinic cohesion and national integration. CAN WE LEARN FROM AMERICA where race, party, economic and political status in society does not mean your allowances are tax exempt and that elections both civic, parliamentary and presidential are free and fair ? And that judiciary and legislature are independent and serve societal good ! I argue vehemently, that real Economic change in Kenya should be preceded by socio-political reconstruction.

Kenya requires re-creation and /or re-design .

KCA Press Release: MPs must pay taxes

A Press release by The Kenyan Community Abroad ( KCA )
Thursday, November 13th, 2008

MPs MUST pay Taxes

The Kenyan Community Abroad (KCA) takes exception to the refusal by
our parliamentary representatives to pay taxes like the other 30
million plus Kenyans. It is not only inherently illegal but also
unethical.

KCA calls upon the executive to establish an oversee body to monitor
the pay of the parliamentarians and their taxation because it is not
logical for them to not only determine their wages, but also refuse to
pay taxes.

It instructive that the first order of duty when Kenya disposed the
KANU hegemony, the parliamentarian increased their salaries tenfold.

In 2006, amidst one of the most severe droughts in our country,
members of Parliament roused to action as seldom before, finding
common ground on an issue so pressing that they threatened to
stonewall the budget until it was addressed: another big increase in
their compensation. They now have refused to pay taxes.

It should also be noted that Kenya is amongst the countries with the
highest taxation rate in the world at 30%. Conversely, our members of
parliament are compensated at perversely rich levels. When compared
with the GDP and average income of the mwanainchi, it makes no sense
for the poor to be taxed while the rich take a free ride. In an ideal
situation, taxes should be stratified by income, with the poor paying
less and the high income earners paying more.

KCA calls upon the government to establish an independent authority
charged with establishing not only taxation, but also compensation for
parliamentarians. Alternatively, the Kenya Revenue Authority can serve
this role if given special right to determine compensation rates and
hierarchical tax structure.

Addendum: Petition to Impeach Senator Obama

We were urged to add the following information about Senator Obama.

This comes under the topic of lies and deception but also falls under more serious charges of abuse of power and possible violation of the Logan Act. Those signing the petition prior to this addendum will be identified. August 4, 2008 Whereas: As a US Senator, Barack Obama violated the stated intention of his 2006 Official Government Visa to Africa by publicly propagandizing for his cousin, Railla Odinga against the US democratic ally of Kenya.

Whereas the stated “mission” of Senator Obama’s Official Visa, according to the Kenya Office of Public Communications, was to “nurture relations between the Continent and the United States” he, instead, made public protest before Kenya citizens to rally against their leadership, invoking a need for “Change!” and accusing this US allied nation of “corruption.” In Official Protest of Mr. Obama’s passport abuse and misconduct, Kenya’s government cited his “extremely disturbing statements on issues which it is clear, he was very poorly informed, and on which he chose to lecture the Government and the people of Kenya on how to manage our country.” Whereas, furthermore, there is no public record of any sanctions or reprimand by the US Congress of Senator Obama’s passport violation or campaigning on foreign soil against a US ally, history has since recorded the broadspread destruction of Kenya’s economy and large scale loss of life as a result of the violence instigated by Odinga’s ODM campaign there.

President Obama, Luo Nyanza, Kenya & Africa

A once in a generation Window of Opportunity is now open to Luo Nyanza due to President Obama’s historic election victory.

Where is the strategy for our region to benefit from this?

Where are our intellectuals, visionaries and capitalists to promote the region, our culture and the region’s (potential) products and services?

What vehicle/s will we use to fine tune the strategy?

Are we going to let American & European intellectuals and even professional charlattan tourists come and write best selling histories and socio-economic tomes about us as we just gape idly by marveling for four years at President Obama “our son’s”achievements?

That indeed will be the joke of the millenium!

Are we just going to sit there as they make photo journals of Nyanza/Kenya again? As if we have no qualified photography journalists who could fashion lovely travelogues on Luo Nyanza/Kenya/Africa?

Come on Luos we talk too much!

Who is organizing strategy for Luoland to really manifest itself as the (potential) intellectual and cultural powerhouse it must be to benefit and uplift our people from poverty, disease and ignorance?

Who will link the above aims to the Kenyan national strategy (for this is a Kenyan Pride) and African strategy for Africa to reap concrete benefits from President Obama’s time in office?

We must not be shy about these things. We must hurry! Or you will find our story being reaped by foreigners to ad nauseam.

This is a window of opportunity to for example:

a) Revamp sales of books on Luo culture eg Paul Mboya’s Kitwa gi Timbewa ( and Jane Achieng translation of it)

b) Music-Nyatiti, orutu, benga, traditonal cuisine (its time for mor nyaluo to come back!)

c) New deeper research into our history from Sudan to Eastern and Western Africa

d) Documentaries, films on events achievements of the Luo and Kenyans in general

e) Setting firm targets to ensure our fishermen are not exploited by middlemen-provision of credit for refegeration facilities via strengthenned cooperatives

Essentially targeting at economic freedom for Nyanza, Kenyans and Africans. The above is not to alienate non-Luos-on the contrary, the above goals must be fashioned in a complementary, synchronized manner within the framework of Kenyans’ & Africa’s aspirations for Mr. Obama’s Presidency.I see it as another window of opportunity to scrap petty and dangerous/hateful tribalism from Kenyan minds as Obama is a symbol for Africa.

The Kenya Government and other bodies and wealthy individuals (like our untaxed MPs) can fund some of the above activities or facilitate them.

Let our visionaries come forward like Obama has done. We can do it. There is no time to waste!

We are the people equipped to deal with ignorance that tells our fellow Kenyans that doing piracy is being smart so long as you are not caught. We are the elites that will educate others that throwing rubbish out of the window is not just unacceptable but also the most awkward way of disposing what we do not want.

Our country is ailing because nobody has stood to be accountable. The politicians want to manage wealth they do not contribute. They want the CDF money that they do not contribute taxes to. Our teachers are so busy they do not have time to teach their students that violence is not justice in disguise but a destructive weapon. Our people believe they got to give bribe to get the services delivered. Keeping simple rules like queing and not boarding a full matatu will take us too far ahead of the millions.

Bottomline: In Kenya we are short of ideas and we need people who can think for the millions who cant think bacause of ignorance and lack of exposure. What do we do about corruption, IDPs, ignorance, joblessness etc,etc- The government form comissions, can’t we form a commission of our own whereby we can deal with each vice exhaustibly through this forum.

If all the professionals who work in Nairobi followed this simple rules and teach them to the upcountry folks when they go for Christmas, Kenya will be a better place to live.

Talking of MPs’ salary, last year just before the elections there was an org getting aspirants to sign an agreement that they will lower their salaries when they are elected. What happened? Did they get the aspirants to sign, and if they did what did they do with the signatures

Re: Easy money!

When I worked as a security officer, I do recall several occasions when people would pass by my security desk and remark “easy money!” The same has happened many times when working as a cashier! Customers will pass by and say such things as, “you look bored,” “well, nothing doing?” “Oh! are you standing just waiting,” or “well, easy money !” But perhaps the funniest remark has been on pastoral ministry! A little boy one day remarked with excitement that he wanted to become a pastor as pastor Birai when he grew up! At first I was so excited that I had inspired a little kid to become a pastor ,but on hearing his reason, I was very sad. The reason why he wanted to become a pastor is because “pastors don’t do anything!” All they do is to preach once a week and then wait for the salary! Just think about that!

So, what’s your take! Do you also consider security work, cashier work and pastoral ministry as jobs that people make “easy money!”

On the surface, it may appear that way! But a critical analysis of the same reveals the following!

1. All three jobs call for total commitment and very heavy responsibility!

2. All three jobs calls for direct dealing with God’s children that is not easy by all means!

3. All three jobs calls for accountability! In pastoral ministry, the Lord of the vineyard will require an accountability of all that were placed under the care of the minister. In security job, one is entrusted with the responsibility of guarding against people and security! And the cashier job requires that one gives an account of all the funds in the cash register!

The above preceding reasons and many others disqualify the above three jobs as belonging to the category of easy money jobs! They are not free or easy by all means!

There is one and perhaps the only thing that I know is very free to all human beings-Salvation, that has freely been provided! It’s free because someone-our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, of Nazareth, the man of Galilee, paid for it! All that you and I need is to do is to claim it free of charge!

I accepted it long time ago and continue to enjoy it while praying and counting on my Lord to help me keep it as I patiently travel home! How about you dear one!

Fw: CORRUPTION PERSISTS AT KENYA’S IMMIGRATION MINISTRY

BY INVESTIGATIVE WRITER.

The ministry of immigration is once again on the spotlight over how senior officers at its Nyayo house offices in Nairobi handled a controversial deportation saga involving three Chinise nationals who were found to be in the country illegally and ordered back to their country 3 months ago.

The 3 chinese ,according to documents availed to us by our sources were ordered to leave the country immediately in August this year by a Kisumu court after they were found to have violated various immigration rules and regulations regarding aliens.

According to our sources the court issued the deportation orders after the immigration officers responsible for handling prosecution matters in the department successfully provided evidence in court against the chinese prompting the magistrate to pass a verdict.

The trio had faced various charges ranging from being in Kenya illegally to engaging in employment without obtaining a work permit and failure to register as aliens all of which were considered as violations of the country’s immigration laws .

They are understood to have pleaded guilty to all the charges brought against them in court and the trial magistrate ordered them to be deported immediately back to China.

According to the documents in our possesion, the court also ordered them to pay shs. 10,000 each or go to prison for a period of six months for each of the three counts they faced.

However they opted to pay the fines and were handed back to the immigration officers in Kisumu who were to facilitate the deportation arrangements in cordination with their Nairobi office.

But in what appears to be a high level corruption syndictate some unscrupullous immigration officers based in Nyayo house, the ministry’s headquaters allowed the deportees to slip away in their hands.

Three months down the line the court’s directive to the ministry to have the chinese deported is yet to be effected and nobody is explaining why it was defied.

A reveletion that might shock even the magistrate who gave the orders is the fact that the chinese found their way back to Nakuru where they continue with their daily activities without any hitch or fear of being arrested.

This is the town where only three months ago they had been nabbed by the immigration officers from Kisumu who took them to court but whom they nolonger have the need to hide from any more.

Nakuru town is under the jurisdiction of the western Kenya region immigration office whose principal immigration officer sits in Kisumu.

Kisumu’s immigration office whose officers effected the arrests that saw the chinese arraigned in court are now a dejected and a frustrated lot.

After several weeks of investigations they pounced on some three chinese nationals whom they had enough grounds to suspect had been flouting the rules of the land being foriegners and they chose to act.

But the manner in which the immigration office in Nairobi handled the deportation case against the chinese has left a bitter rivalry between its officers who were involved in the case in Kisumu.

While the officers in Kisumu immigration office want the court order obeyed and the chinese thrown out of the country, those in the Nyayo house office want the issue abandoned and forgotten.

The matter has left a division amongst the officers who now feels they are not being appreciated for implementing the law by colleagues whose sole aim is to make a kill out of foreigners who brake the law but get away with it after parting with bribes.

In an interview with this journalist an officer who wished not to be named said they want the minister to persue the case. He said this was not the first case where they are ignored by their superious in Nairobi.

He said the Kisumu office risk becoming irrelevant because it was not allowed to perfom its mandates effectively as demanded.

”We did our best according to what is required of us and we want the court order obeyed.we have realised that some officers in our Nairobi office are interested in defying the order and we suspect money exchanged hands otherwise why would they fail to act as directed by the court.” posed an officer in a Kisumu office.

Another officer at the office also informed this writer that they did what was required of them but now little can be expected from them because they are not allowed to follow up matters once it is fowarded to headquaters for action.

”We even have been warned by our seniors in Nyayo house to fogett about this matter and not talk about it.”he said.

The officer confirmed that he was involved fully in making arrangements to ferry the chinese from Kisumu to Nairobi so that ministry headquaters could facilitate how the deportees were to eventually exit the country.

”I personally gave out night out to our officers who were detailed to escort these people to Nairobi and did confirm also that they took the chinese upto our offices at Nyayo house so it was not the mistake of this office that the chinese are still around.” he said.

The Chinese whose details including passport numbers we have obtained, first came to Kenya as tourists but soon began working for a chinese investor whose firm is engaged in sale of motor cycles, fittings, maintainance services and sale of accessories.

The company which has also employed a few Kenyans is situated in Nakuru along the busy Kenyatta avenue.

When we visited the company recently to investigate the authenticity of the facts we had about the presence of the chinese we found them working without fear of being apprehended.

Our probe reveales that one of the chinese who were ordered to leave the country by the courts is now heading a branch newly opened by his employer in Eldoret town along the Uganda road.

Our crew posed as clients who wanted to buy a motorcycle and pretended to even know one of the chinese whose name had been picked from the court documents.

He emerged from his office after the Kenyan staff working as a salesman told him that he had friends who wished to be served personally by him. Little did he realise that the scheme was intended to smoke him out.

The three according to our source at the firm have been working as supervisors and middle level managers even though they don’t possess any special skill to work in the country since what they do can also be done by locals.

Kenya, just like any other country has its strict rules and regulations governing employment when it comes foreigners. Those who want to work must only be expatriates whose skills may not be sourced locally or where locals who posses the skills are inadequate .

Allowing foreigners to take up jobs which can be done by locals has been condemned by leaders who feel the government is not doing enough to ensure the Kenyan jobless are not subjected to unfair competition by these people.

When we reached the immigration minister Otieno Kajwan’g said the issue was never brought to his attention by the officers who handled it.

He however promised that action will be taken against officers from the ministry who flouted the law.

” We are definately going to investigate the matter seriously because we dont want to encourage corruption in this ministry and any officer who was compromised will answer for his mistakes accordingly” said the minister.

ENDS.

KENYAN MP SALARIES IS HIGHER THAN US SENATORS: SIGN A PETITION TO REDUCE IT

Please read the facts below and sign this petition at the address http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/KDFC
for Kenyan parlierment to reduce the MPs salary.

KENYANS SET TO PETITION DONORS AGAINST KENYAN MP’S SALARY

Dear Kenyan,

Below is your MPs total salary per month

Basic salary                                          =          Sh. 395,000

A minimum commuted mileage              =          Sh. 75,000

Entertainment allowance                        =          Sh. 60,000

Extraneous allowance                           =          Sh. 30,000

House allowance                                  =          Sh. 70,000

Monthly car maintenance allowance      =          Sh. 247,000.

Gym membership allowance                  =          Sh. 2,000.

Vehicle fixed cost allowance                 =          Sh. 336,000

Committee meeting allowance               =          Sh. 40,000

Constituency allowance                         =          Sh. 50,000

TOTAL TAX FREE                             =          Sh. 1,242, 2000

=          $17,742 per month

Per year each MP earn                         =          $212,904 per year

EXTRAS         Car loan                       =          Sh 3.3 Million

House loan                   =          sh 10 million

COMPARE THIS WITH A US SENATOR SALARY

USA senator’s salary                            =          $165,000/year

                                                =          $13,750 per month

The salaries the Kenyan MPs are earning are from donors. This money will be paid back to a single drop by Kenyan tax payers. Kenya is a very poor country compared to United States. Just why these MPs earn more than the USA senators baffles everyone. However, they do so because the public have not demanded their rights. We have 207 MPs may be more. In five years they will draw about Ksh. 2 billion. This is greed. Only the Kenyan public can stop this.

Sign this petition and we will make sure it is delivered to the hands of the donors. We will also make attempt to lobby US/UK congress/senate to look into the money these two countries give to Kenya. Kenyan economy cannot sustain this. This petition may help stop this.

Again the petition site is: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/KDFC

Microsoft denies paying contractor to abandon Linux

By Remmy Nweke, IDG News Service\Lagos Bureau
11 Nov, 2008
Microsoft has denied paying a Nigerian contractor US$400,000 in a bid to battle Linux’s movement into the government sector.

Media reports alleged that Microsoft had proposed paying the sum to a government contractor under a joint marketing agreement last year in order to persuade the contractor to replace Linux OS with Windows OS on thousands of school laptops.

There is a major disadvantage to the ‘Microsoft way of doing things’ on PC-s. In the over whelming majority of instances, that difficulty is high licensing fees for application software tools.

To avoid this, ‘The other way’, is to work with open source software solutions. Usually although not always, this would involve usage of some flavor of Linux (Suse, Fedora Core, Debian, …) or Unix (FreeBsd) operating system.
