Robert,

Note that in Kenya only the poor are treated like dirt!!! Kamani, the Arturs, the lady who was suppossedly a queen who stayed at the Grand and never paid a cent etal know Kenya has no real security… one can walk in and out without even the cops sniffing you out if you carry yourself like you got money or actually have it in the zillions. All those Tanzanians, Senegalese caught with drugs are just small fish to blind us all… The Immigration people care less who comes in or out of Kenya.

PACU will just join the other civil society’s who make loud noise for the cameras for a month then do other business…

The corrupt are here to stay… Interpol, MI5, FBI have other fish to catch.  You all recall Ochalan being caught right here in Kenya. Kabuga is also meant to be sitting snugly in a house in Nairobi… Money money money, pesa, ndiyo zinafanya kazi ya mikora hapa Nchini!!!

Arnette

This will be a bitter pill for most people to swallow, but looking at the just concluded general elections, I would say that most Kenyans [did I say most? as in as opposed to all?] are, indeed, gullible. In fact, very gullible.

The Real Culprits

Fellow Kenyans,

The other day I heard Martha Karua speak eloquently in support of Kalonzo Musyoka’s contention that those who committed crimes against humanity during the horrible weeks after the stolen elections must be punished. I fully agree with these two characters, but only if everybody is indeed punished. I don’t need to go over the manner in which the election was stolen. The arrogance and impunity speaks for itself. What Kenyans need to remember, before we embark on the administration of justice, is that there are levels of responsibility in the manner in which events unfolded. Here is my list of the levels.

1. President Kibaki. This man, back in 2002, was elected by Kenyans to unite the nation. His presidency brought Kenya tribal hatred, an economy skewed against the poor and an election that he refused to concede. Now, the reason Kibaki should face punishment before anybody else is…he was the head of state. He was the one whose security apparatus presided over the killing and maiming of innocent Kenyans. Had he chosen to walk away after losing the elections, nobody would have died. For him to now turn around and blame others for the mess he orchestrated tells us a lot about this man’s character. What a shameless goon!

2. Samuel Kivuitu. This man presided over a sham election. He knew that Kibaki had lost the election and yet went ahead to declare him the winner. Did Kivuitu hope that Kenyans would just fold up and accept a stolen election? And just how much was he paid to swing the thing Kibaki’s way? It’s my contention that had Kivuitu not accepted a bribe, and had he not called the election for Kibaki, Kenyans would not have needlessly died. For him to still occupy the chairmanship of the ECK speaks to what kind of a man he is. How dumb!

3. John Michuki. This man was in charge of internal security. He led the police force in brutalizing Kenyans, killing men women and children. If it can be proved that he coordinated efforts with the Mungiki, then indeed this is the man who killed Kenyans. He is responsible for the atrocities the forces committed against Kenyans. For him to sit out there and pretend he is innocent makes a mockery of the judicial system in Kenya. Idiot.

4. Uhuru Kenyatta. I watched this man in Nakuru at the height of the election violence. He was on a track, ostensibly on a mission to bring peace to Nakuru. But his body language spoke about his true intentions. He was in Nakuru to cheer the murderous Mungiki on. What does he know about the Mungiki? What does he know about how the election theft was planned? What made him insist he was going to be in government several months before the elections? To the extent that Kenyans died, Uhuru Kenyatta cannot escape blame for helping orchestrate the game plan that led to the death of kenyans.

5. General Ali. The police commissioner is a man I pity. It’s now clear that he so deplored the tactics employed by the Kibaki people that he resigned. But he was marched back to work. He catches blame because as the man who is responsible for the actions of his officers, he should have stopped their murderous campaign. If he feared for his life, like I’m aware he was, he should have fled the country. Honor is a great thing, General.

Guys, that’s my list. Now, I know there will be people who ask why Ruto’s name doesn’t make my list. It’s for the same reason I leave out the Mungiki and the Kalenjin warriors who raided an Eldoret church and fought like hell to drive out the invading Mungiki. What I’m saying is that The Mungiki and The Kalenjin warriors were responding to events that were planned by the five culprits I mentioned above. Did you expect the Kalenjin warriors to sit by and watch the wholesale slaughter of their children and wives? Did you expect the Mungiki to watch as their community in the diaspora was decimated by the rest of Kenya? I don’t think so. These brave boys all fought to protect their people…even if they did it for the wrong reasons. By fighting like they did, they fought other people’s wars. They fought a war planned by Kibaki’s people.

So when the time comes to punish the evil people, we must start with Kibaki and go down the chain. This situation where the people who planned the evil are excused and the small man who valiantly fought to defend himself is blamed will not stand. It may now, but as sure as the sun sets in the west, it will only breed more discontent and will bring us the next implosion.

Is anybody listening?

If you are, here is my proposal. Punish Kibaki and his team, the people who led us down this path, or let the boys in prisons across Kenya go. We will not allow the fat cats to dump their foolishness on the small man. And to the small man, the time has come to think of Kenya in different terms. Aren’t we tired of fighting the wars of these tycoons? Why do we kill each other for them?

I ask the Mungiki leadership, the young Luos around the world, the Kalenjin warriors, the youthful Luhya Brigade and the Coastal Vijana to rethink their political and economic situation. Maybe the time has come to worry about a future beyond these people. Maybe Luke Mboya is right to ask for a shift in our thinking. Maybe only younger leaders will save us.

RAILA, STOP DAMAGING YOURSELF

I am tired of this casigations of anybody who disagree with Raila. Any body with sense will admit that Raila has grossly mis managed the threat of forming opposition. What is the reason for adressing this honorable members on PNU media and giving them ultimutum. His argument that this guys should resign before forming opposition is absurd. Why did he not resign himself when he moved from ODM to ODM-PNU alliance.

Even if the government defeat the bill you might only win the battle but not the war. Since the chicken have come home to rooste, what is Raila going to do with there mis-trust. You can not always lock them up like we did with there consent following election of the speaker. And then going everywhere saying that top ODM leaders (everybody knows whom you are reffering to) wanted Kenya divided, but yourself and Kibaki being the patriots you are rejected this idea

Let me tell you, that at this at this rate you will be damaged, that even Luo’s might not want to touch you with a 12 feet pole come 2012. And then come to Kisumu with two message for Luo’s ; stop “chuki” and that he came to prepare Kibaki visitation. I thought you are Prime-Minister Raila and not Kibaki’s minister? Act like it, stop fighting Musyoka for being Kibaki’s assistant. It seems everybody things higher of your position and status than yourself, I don’t think you grasp what 50 % means. Telling us to stop “chuki” either is purely a proble with your kiswahili vocabulary or
throwing us under the bus and being very un-grateful, you are glad I assume it is the first one.

Let me remind you Raila, it is our “chuki” which got you the Premiership, if you can only occupy the seat for God’s sake and stop trying to be Kibaki’s assistant. And it is people like Ababu who fought for you to get that position, the guy even took an oath of allegiance to you, so why turn
him to your enemy. The least you can do to is support his humble ambition. My theory is that you (Raila) needs to blame us (luo’s). Instead of putting you to task and asking you tough questions with your “zig- zag” politics for the 15 years, we never asked you for explanation. While we asked everybody else to explain themselves, Raila “mawuod Odinga” did not have to do anything. We only trused that though I do not see the way, you knows best and I will know at the end of the journey that you knew it all, simply trust your heart. We also demanded of our Luo MP’s to never question Raila. The problem is that you are trying the same with this 100 ODM MP’s, good luck with that sir.

Their is a myth amongst luo’s that there is a young man who was sentenced to life imprisonment without any chance of parole for robbery. With tears in his eyes he asked the court the privilege to privately address his mother for the last time. This young man asked the mother to lent her
ears but instead of whispering to it the scrupulous young man bit it. The moral of this story is, the mother never told him he was making a mistake, thereby leading him to believe he was right. Far be it removed from what Raila is doing but the tenets are the same.

Shame on you Raila, if the first people you are fighting for are Mungiki, ignoring that this people have 9 ministers on voted for you amidst such a great risk, but are now bombed and in shock and awe. How do you feel when Muite who is of a different party affiliation demands of you not only to reconcile with Mungiki but the Sabaot Land Defense.

Hello Wanakazi

Let us look at glass half-full when we talk about Kamani & Ramesh Co

I refuse to listen that these people are the only corrupt individuals on this planet earth?

I pause to ask Wanakazi
1-How many police officer do we have in Kenya?
2-How many National Intelligence Security service personnel do we have in Kenya?
3-How many Auditors and Accountants do we have in Kenya?
4-Who paid them all these monies? if is not me and you via our great custodian called Kenya Government

Even if they return the loot, if any ,will these monies be well used to create more opportunities for the youth ,old and everyone or will it still go into someone wallet or Bank account

If Kamani and Ramesh are accused of having a little more cash than what they need

I will say let either one be appointed chief Graft Cezar and other anti-graft Crusader

Is possible to reduce corruption if we all know that we need each other and we love one another

I will find it painful if my fellow Kenyan is walking naked and I do nothing

All we say Man/woman for themselves but God/Allah for us all but is possible to mind others support each other etc

Those questions are ok. Mine is a laymans view. Its simple, how could Kamani have sneaked into the country. Its either Nation Media was wrong or just that Kamani was trying to show us that he is invincible. I am just imagining once when I had a very bad argument with the airport police when they called me and asked me “stupid” questions.

I flew from outside the country for a weekend and I just had some ugly Akala and faded jeans and was carrying just a racksack. The CID seems to have been monitoring me from the flight and they were just wondering which country I was coming from coz I was just too simple. I arrived and straight went to the simba restuarant. I noticed 3 burly men approaching me.

When they took me to a small room downstairs with all the big catches they have made I realised what I was into. They asked me man questions and many personal and that’s when we didn’t agree on many things but I later understood them. The fact is that they had so much info about me including my passport details and even my seat on the plane.

If Kamani sneaked into Kenya then he used the wron passport which might have been forged. You cannot just fly into a hub airport and expect to “sneak”. If it was through Namanga, Sirare, Busia, or Mandera we could understand but just not JKIA aboard Emirates. They should either arrest Kamani for forgery if he didn’t use his blacklisted passport or just let him tell the Kenyan
police how hee sneaked so that nobody can sneak again

SABOTAGE SCHEMES AGAINST RAILA: THE MAN ODM WANTS OUT

Recent media reports (The People On Sunday May 4, 2008 ) about a fierce war by officers at the Primier’s office barely scratch the bottom of what is really at stake for Raila Odinga and ODM. The man drawing discontent in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is Dr. Mohammed Isahakia, erstwhile head of the ODM Presidential Campaign Secretariat, former director of National Museums of Kenya and former Permanent Secretary (PS) whom Moi sacked severally under controversial circumstances and now the re-invented boss at the critical PM’s office.

He is the only PS in the history of civil service re-appointed to public office while still facing misuse of office allegations in court in addition to being past retirement age. He is such a persona that his support base (Muslims) and party (ODM) fraternity do not want him near any decision-making but the Prime Minister is weighed down with him.

He is also the ‘enemy within’ that party bigwigs and strategists tag for spirited sabotage manoeuvres of the ODM electioneering campaigns, misuse of campaign funds, fiasco in cabinet portfolio balance in power-sharing negotiations and short-changing in public service appointments, but who has been planted on the PM as his closest minder.

Recent reports of infighting within the PM’s office and disquiet within ODM hierarchy is but a tip of the iceberg as the PM faces credibility questions from his own party. Members of the Pentagon, cabinet ministers and large pools of professional support groups cite lack of integrity by officers in his office. Prime Minister Raila Odinga is indeed in danger of squandering an image build over the years as a man after real change in governance.

        Premier’s Office in Disarray
The recent squabble might seem to be between Dr. Isahakia and Raila’s close political aide, the Secretary of Administration at the PM’s office, Mr. Caroli Omondi; but the gulf runs much deeper. On the PM’s instruction, Mr. Omondi wrote to the Justice Aaron Ringera-headed KACC asking for a brief on the controversially alleged handover of Grand Regency Hotel by Kamlesh Patni, of the Goldenberg infamy. Mr. Omondi, a lawyer and ODM liaison officer at the on-going Serena Mediation talks signed off as the ‘Chief of Staff’ for the PM.

Apparently upset that Raila had overlooked him in ‘protocol’, Dr. Isahakia is said to have appealed to newfound confidante – the Head of Civil Service Mr. Francis Muthaura – to put the record straight on the pecking order at the PM’s office. Motivating Isahakia was the desire to spite the PM amidst suspicion that the PM is already overwhelmed by appeals to cut him loose. In an offhand rude putdown to Raila and Omondi, Muthaura – in the now-famous insolent manner he has come to treat the PM – did not let his buddy down; he was least bothered with courtesies and official channels.

He contemptuously let fly through the media his disdain for Raila; Muthaura was categorical that no one will bother with a reply since government structures had no ‘chief of staff’ and only Dr. Isahakia could author such requests. This is despite the letter downright stating that ‘I have been directed by the Rt. Hon. Prime Ministerâ€|’ Insubordination is the strategy to Muthaura has chosen to let the PM know his place.

The relationship between Muthaura and Dr. Isahakia is intriguing and a source of great anxiety within ODM. In the heat of disagreements over portfolio balance, the two were used as point’s men by President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila respectively in heated correspondence, when one-on-one meetings failed. Dr. Isahakia was the errand boy for ODM on ‘portfolio balance’ in meetings with Muthaura for PNU. It through these engagements that the two developed a conspiratorial working rapport.

        The Saboteur
Back to ODM portfolio balance negotiations, a red flag was first raised when media leaks begun to portray ODM as constantly conceding on its ‘irreducible minimum’ in portfolio balance. Sources say that ‘coincidences were too many’ when approved ‘portfolio balance’ presentations to PNU were concisely substituted with new ones once in the hands of Isahakia.

‘It was baffling. For instance, the strategists would work on a document and fine tune it for presentation. But between Isahakia’s offices for the PM’s approval, the document would acquire different proposals. Of course the PM would assume that the changes were by the strategy team as it had been presented to him!’ said a distraught official. He cited the leak that portrayed ODM ceding Foreign Affairs, Internal Security and Finance to PNU even before any discussion was held as a fake document that was traced back to an Isahakia sidekick at Pentagon House..

It was determined that Isahakia had been ‘turned’? in espionage to ensure a favourable deal for PNU because he was ‘too compromised’ by his past. In his mole role, Isahakia was/has strategically been placed to feed Raila with misinformation. Henceforth Isahakia would not meet alone with Muthaura. He would be shadowed by Mr. Caroli Omondi, Dalmas Otieno and Amukowa Anagwe.

However, Isahakia would pull a first one; he recruited Dalmas Otieno and Amukowa Anagwe into his confidence. At Sagana where ‘portfolio balance’ was agreed only Isahakia and Muthaura and the two principals were present. It is noteworthy that not even the highest decision-making organ – Pentagon – at ODM was aware of Sagana. Subsequently Isahakia would evade ‘his tails’ in meetings with his new-found villain Muthaura to fine tune the agreement and finalise appointments to cabinet and civil service that has became the source of fury in ODM.

‘It is uncanny how Isahakia connived to meet alone with Muthaura and agree on PS allotments and then tell a tall story as already plotted by them to the PM’, said an ODM MP.

        Plot to Fix Raila’s Reputation
In a much Isahakia’s positioning is a source of ire, diehard supporters of the PM fear that it is an insidious long-term PNU plot to politically fix Raila. To begin with among the presidential candidates, it only the Raila Odinga who presented himself as ‘Mr. Clean’ and on behalf ODM promised to fight corruption. In the campaigns, Raila would scold opponents as representing ‘business as usual’ in reference to their alleged corrupt backgrounds in public perception.

‘It comes as shocking and alarming to supporters that the PM has within his office people with stained and dubious reputations’, said a professional from Nyanza.

Supporters are worried that apart from Isahakia himself, the latter in complicity with Muthaura is busy recruiting into PM’s office wheeler dealer Tony Gachoka as a Senior Assistant Secretary for protocol and a Major Idris who left the armed forces procurement department under a dubious cloud as a Deputy Secretary. This is being done without following laid down procedures indicating the length head of public service, Muthuara is prepared to prop up his friend and go to have PNU-friendly insiders around the PM.

Most of PM’s close confidants are lost for words that their interventions to have the PM cut loose Dr. Isahakia have hit a brick wall. Dr. Isahakia continues to call the shots even as he continues, according to ODM insiders, ‘to mislead the PM into PNU traps at every corner’. It is in this light that Raila is said to be quietly shifting political responsibilities to Mr. Omondi prompting Isahakia to wage insurgency in cohorts with Muthaura.

‘We sincerely do not know where the Captain got this man and why’, said an irate ODM Pentagon member when asked about Isahakia’s recruitment as campaign head adding he found the PS ‘lazy, manipulative and inopportune’. ‘He confessed to me that he knew nothing about managing campaigns and proved it’, he said.

‘I can tell you the man is incapable of writing a simple memo’, said a former minister whose sentiments were supported by a member of ODM strategy team who had to re-draft ‘juvenile’ memos from Isahakia.

        ‘We don’t know this man’
However, insiders told us that Dr. Isahakia as the ODM Presidential Campaign Secretariat head was part of the deal in the contentious and debilitating ‘Muslim MOU’ authored by NAMLEF, the Muslims lobby group that was at the centre of the debate during that 2007 campaigns. In the course of the campaigns, however, it transpired Dr. Isahakia abandoned the Muslim agenda and became a material broker for vested interests in the party nominations, especially Muslim parliamentary constituencies. Furthermore, the source claimed, campaign funds released to the area never reached the intended beneficiaries. They cite a case of Ksh.1m meant for a coordinator who only received Ksh200, 000 from Dr. Isahakia.

‘He is responsible for the fiasco that saw us loose ground in North Eastern to PNU as he substituted strategic parliamentary candidates with his cronies in the area for some consideration. Somehow, most of his recommended candidates lost to PNU’, said a party strategist from the region who sought anonymity.

As if these were not enough, the Muslim community feels short-changed in the recent PS appointment by ODM which led to a delegation that asked the PM to fire his PS. Sources in NAMLEF say that Dr. Isahakia colluded with PNU to ensure that names for ODM Muslim appointees to PS positions, like the those from other regions, were replaced by PNU appointees.

Players in the on-going saga who fear that there is a larger PNU plot to isolate the PM from his support bases point out that PNU is already using its manipulation of PS appointments to its advantage in ODM support areas. ‘I can tell you that other than one Secretary, none of those PSs with Muslim names are ODM supporters’, said an NAMLEF official.

The story is the same everywhere; Kanu is busy taunting ODM in Rift Valley since all PS appointees are its supporters to the chagrin of ODM Kalenjin professionals. In Western, ODM was even upstaged by ODM-K and Ford-Kenya where they got one PS each to none for ODM! In addition, Kibaki retained his previous appointees.

More recently, there are unconfirmed reports circulating among Muslims that ODM cabinet and PS positions were ‘bought’ for as much as Ksh30 million and Ksh20, 000 respectively.

        ‘Dirty Hands’
The insinuation of dirtied hands at the PM’s office goes back to the campaigns. The issue of misappropriation of campaign funds is not new. At the height of the campaigns, the media cited conflict of interest in the award of tenders at Orange House, the party headquarters. To date, the party secretariat has not accounted for the millions that aspirants on the ODM ticket paid as nominations fees.

What did not attract media attention; however, were the goings-on at the Presidential Campaign Secretariat headquarters then based at Dr. Isahakia’s private office at Titan House near Yahya Centre. Information now sipping out reveals that despite public perception that ODM was a well-funded machine; the presidential campaign had to operate from hand-to-mouth most of December as cartels at the secretariat under Dr. Isahakia’s command siphoned off millions in procurement deals that nearly derailed the campaign.

‘You had the ‘Isahakia boys’ inflate transport, publicity and security procurements while major needs were left bleeding for want of money. Their trick was to ensure that the logistics for members of Pentagon campaigns teams were well executed to blindside them from seeing the sabotage from within’, we were told by a regional coordinator from Rift Valley.

He said Isahakia dillydallied with the roll-out for recruitment and training programmes for presidential agents in an act that many saw as sabotage. At the intervention of the strategy team, this task was personally delegated to Mr. Omondi by the presidential candidate. It is no wonder campaign tuff wars have been extended to the PM’s office.

        Fraudulent deals
Another case darkens the clouds over Isahakia are revelations about an internal opinion poll that cost Ksh6 million. A member of the media team based at Raila’s private offices at Raila Odinga Centre (ROC) House in the Upper Hill area of Nairobi revealed that Isahakia recruited a former Kanu insider and PS Dr. Jeremiah Ngeno and made him ‘head of technical services’.

Dr. Ngeno was meant to be answerable to the high powered strategy team based at Rainbow House in Kawangware but never shared any information with it, choosing instead to chain himself at Isahakia’s Titan office. It turned out that Dr. Ngeno never carried out any field work for the opinion poll. Instead, our source said, the couple (Isahakia and Dr. Ngeno) teamed up with Dr. Simbili current PS Planning ministry at the PM’s office, and used rehashed data from the national sampling agency from the ministry.

The strategy team that used to advice on itinerary was shut out when it demanded to see the protocol for the poll, samples of questionnaires and tabulations. After evading the team’s demands Dr. Ngeno would secretly present ‘polling results’ to the ODM candidate which was used to map out his campaign itinerary in the final days of the campaign. This ensured that the campaign was diverted into investing resources and time in useless trips to regions that had little added value. The heightened poll results showed PNU winning and thus panicked ODM into frantic campaigns.

Too late it would be discovered that in fact Dr. Isahakia, Dr. Ngeno and Dr. Sambili actually used poll results earlier commissioned by PNU through the Ministry of Planning under Dr. Sambili’s direction to mislead the ODM campaign.  All this time, just like it would happen during the post-election negotiations with Isahakia, that time the candidate would be presented with a fait accompli that Dr. Ngeno was an emissary of the strategy team.

        ‘Sack this man’
‘At one time, people just got fed-up and told the Captain to fire Isahakia if he expected a win’, said a volunteer who worked at Rainbow House in the ODM strategy team.

‘However, to our dismay almost all senior staff at the secretariat were fired except Isahakia’, the volunteer said addicting that the PS’s management style by deception and double-dealing has served him well, and that ‘you do not get into a dog-fight with Isahakia and win’.

Today, Dr. Sambili having been retained as PS Ministry of Planning in the Premier’s Office is working closely with Dr. Ngeno on harmonising party manifestoes for the Grand Coalition Government.

A minister whom Isahakia have worked under in the public service says that ‘yeye ni mutu wa kukupotosha’ (he misleads you) and then pretends to be the one solving the problem.

‘Isahakia uses bad-mouthing to the boss as a potent weapon. He has succeeded in isolating the PM from his trusted teams’, said a former PS now an ODM MP referring to the dismissal of long-serving Raila aides during the campaign ostensibly due to financial misappropriation. It is said Isahakia has mastered the art of passing the buck to his subordinates. He would set people up by goading them into a deal and then rush to ‘report’.

In this way Isahakia is said to have managed to get rid of former Raila PA Dave Arunga, and Head of Campaign Finance and ODM party secretary general Tony Chege. This was after he had instigated fallout between Raila’s personal assistant Serah Elderkin on one hand and Raila’s daughter Rosemary Akinyi who was the deputy to Director of Communications Kibisu-Kabatesi on the other. The latter two had questioned the opaque use of publicity money.

The bad blood between Isahakia and the strategy team, many whose names were dropped from PS appointments must be seen in this context.  To completely obliterate the team’s central role in advising the Premier, Isahakia is lobbying that it be deployed to the party as departmental directors. Indeed, a source confirms that there is a plot to close Pentagon House, which is an important symbol for ODM.

Indeed, the PM is now surrounded by gatekeepers who are Isahakia cohorts. Information indicates that Isahakia is currently up in arms against a new structure in the PM’s office that donors have agreed to support. That the recent snide accusations that foreigners are ‘babysitting’ the PM by PNU are part of his counter attack strategy so as not to loose influence on the PM.

Good evening Andy
I feel happy for you  bringing out this topic on water management in developing world including Kenya

Water Services Board, mostly issue licenses to Water Resources Users Association WRUA hence they have very little in daily running of the system.

We all have Water Tribunal Boards that sits to intervene in water disputes matters that will arises in designated water catchment areas,

Water Trust Fund .the funds for now actually are so little that they may not have major impact as it put as 2% of annul allocations and as you are aware there is much duplications of word that little impact is ever felt.

Currently there is management wrangles at Water services Board Hqs hence NGO -Nothing Going On of late

just for your information drilling water in some parts of this country is very expensive

You may well drill water how ever the salt concentration level will be so high that even if you seep u immediately dehydrate.

we are still to attain good positioning machines that can accurately determine the quantityof water in a place.

Before giving you more stories ,just know if you drill water anyhow you may end up drying some water points in certain areas hence disputes may arise.

I will advocate for Rainwater harvesting technologies in arid regions and educate communities on need of water recycling

  using figures is good idea

Take for example If one person uses on average 100 litres of water in a day then we need to calculate how many people in eastern or dry areas amount will be?

Then we can identify the deficit after summing up rivers, piped and pans outputs

then the deficit is what is supposed to be drilled or harvested but we never follow this simple path.

There is need to look at where we bath from can we have the used water recycled?

washing cloths, utensils let them be done at a place where water can be re-collected treated etc

Meshack,

Obviously, a good leader, like a good gambler must know when to hold, when to fold, when to walk away and when to run. Raila decided to fold. He can rightly be called a coward, or selfish. To me, he recognized the fact that bloodshed for the mere sake of bloodshed, even when supported by the most powerful nations is not better that peace with minimal changes. Some have in the past likened Raila to violence, and this is the best rebuttal to their lame claims. Here he merely chose peace instead. These minimal changes, albeit The agwambo emerging as the 2nd PM is the foundation for a future non-tribalistic leader, in a more democratic Kenya. Yes, Kenyans died for Raila to be president, of which he was rightly elected. Please understand that Raila does not care about being president anymore. Some advocated to secession if things did not go as desired, but this as you will agree would be too drastic a measure. Is Raila finished? Perhaps. It just does not matter to him anymore, as long as there is real change. Let Kenyans enjoy the real change even if it is not wholesome. The future is very Orange.

“NO PARDON FOR POLL CHAOS”. COULD THE ATTONEY GENERAL PROSECUTE KARUA AND KIBAKI FIRST

In her own words Miss Karua while supporting a statement by Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka emphatically said and I quote “We are guided by the National Accord, which is the law, and there will be no amnesty for anybody who committed any form of crime against humanity during the violence”. I totally support Ms Karua statements but on condition that the law she is quoting will apply to her and Kibaki first.

Many have not forgotten what happened on the day of the elections. While men like Koskei were pleading with Kivuitu to respect the law for the shake of lives of Kenyans, Ms Karua’s eyes were bulging out with fury as she forcibly  supported the declaration of Kibaki as president of Kenya without giving a chance to the due process that she is now purporting to champion. Probably Miss Karua did not consider the ramifications of her decision as a leader of the society. She forgot that by enforcing the stealing of the elections she was in essence declaring war and death. Indeed, Miss Karua and Mr. Kibaki were the commanders of the soldiers who acted pro or against them. You cannot  prosecute the small fish while letting the big one go. The same sin will be repeated if these two are not subjected to the same law they want to selectively apply on the small fish.

Ladies and gentlemen if you have forgotten watch the links
Karua statements “Announce the results now” : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GX3c0nuucG0
Kosgey Pleading “Mr. Chairman please wait untill evrything is ratified”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJMFjKk9GKk

In these two contrasting statements, while Kosgey was emphasizing for  the rule of law, Miss Karua was bent on the use of invisible powers. She simply told Kivuitu to declare Kibaki the winner.
Oblivious to what was coming, Miss Karua believed in the misuse of the power of the gun and recruitment of Mungiki who have since become a thorn in the flesh. Miss Karua and those around her caused this mess and should not attempt to sacrifice somebody else. She should turn herself in and confess her sins to court and to the “priest” if she is woman  or godly enough. Miss Karua actions already lead to deaths of many, loss of property and displacement. The reason she still want to perpetuate chaos in Kenya baffles me.

To me, those who must be  prosecuted for the crimes committed during the violence are the original instigators of this violence. They must be brought to book first if fairness prevails in Kenya. The man in the village did not start this mess. The main culprits in this case would be none other than Miss Karua and president Kibaki who ignored all the laws in the book and all the warnings and proceeded to steal the election. The main reason why people faught against their neighbors was because the election was stolen in a daylight style robbery. Those who reacted were the defenders of the law. Without these people who are now being targeted by Karua, there would have never been a power sharing deal and respect for the law would have been thrown out of the window.

Besides, Karua has forgotten that those who she is hoping to crucify have relatives, blood, intelligence and eyes. They know what she is doing and may react in the opposite to her forces. If the law is not fairly applied, her statements is very likely to initiate new chaos. Martha Karua is beginning to instigate new violence. Could you please tell Martha Karua to shut up and let Kenyans live in peace.

Paul wuon Nyandoto,

You must have realized that in the recent past, I hardly correspond to the on going issues. This is simply because we have all become chatter boxes.

We discuss our plans on the internet, cast aspersions on colleagues on the internet, dismiss ideas on the internet, yet, we are doing NOTHING to make the change we so desparately desire.

I am happy with people like Jairus Onyiego who have come all out to do something. And even though KCDN is my brainchild, we must now come in to give it the kind of outlook that we need.

There is no BUSINESS in the world which was never an individuals idea. All these big corporates, were at the initial stage an idea from ONE person; not a group idea.

Someone must share that idea, and then, people who know, people who have the needed expertise are involved. Out of that, we have Barclays Bank, Microsoft, The Grameen Bank that you want to study, and many more.

And again, for us to serve Luos better, we MUST not necessarily be based in Nyanza. We must be based at that place that gives us the best returns to power what we are doing.

At KCDN, we know what we want, we are doing what we must do, and with goodwill and support of like minded individuals, we are determined to succeed.

We will not succeed by engaging in endless debates. We will only succeed by putting our foot on the pedal.

>>>Meshack Owino  05/12/08 2:06 >>>
http://www.eastandard.net/news/?id=1143986397&cid=4

I have been watching and reading news reports of Raila’s so-called home-coming, and the heckling he received in Kisumu with a sort of sad detachment. Here is a politician who has enjoyed a checkered, colorful, intriguing, and promising career getting heckled by a crowd at his own political backyard of Nyanza for the very first time.  What an embarrassment! To be heckled at a rally consisting of your hitherto most ardent supporters!

As we predicted a few moths ago, Raila’s political career is on the brink of a major disaster. It will take him a very, very long painful period of soul-searching, and huge bowls of mea culpa for him to understand where the rains started beating him.

If he wants to know where all the jeers and the murmurs started, or, to put it another way, where his long honeymoon with his most ardent supporters, especially the Luo, ended, the answer is really simple. It was when he hurriedly settled for a raw deal during the creation of the coalition government, while brushing aside people’s genuinely-felt concerns over the deal.

The honeymoon ended when Raila was completely outplayed by an old, octogenarian, senile Kibaki; when he settled for useless departments in the name of ministries.

The rains started beating him when he started gallivanting with Kibaki all over Rift Valley, while bypassing places like Naivasha, Kibera, and Kisumu where many of his supporters were equally suffering in, just like the IDPs of Molo, Eldoret!

The rains begun beating him when he started making overtures to Mungiki, while saying nothing about Sabaot Land Defence Force.

They started when he agitated for the resettlement of IDPs while saying nothing about the fate of his supporters who were arrested in Rift Valley during the post-election violence.

Do not get me wrong here. I am not saying that Mungiki should not be talked to, or that IDP’s should not be re-settled back in their homes.  What I am pointing out here is a double-standard where Kibaki’s supporters seem to be enjoying all the attention of the government, and Raila seems only to be too eager to go along without asking why his supporters are not being catered for as well.

I am saying that Raila seems to be very eager to kiss up to Kibaki and his supporters, and that is fine by me. However, what rankles the ODM rank-and-file is that, in the process of seemingly inserting his head deep inside Kibaki’s butt, Raila no longer seems to care about the welfare of his supporters who shed tears, blood, and sweat to put him where he is today.

Indeed, if you listen to Raila today, you would think that only Kibaki’s supporters suffered during the post-election violence, and only they need peace and opportunities to resettle and reconstruct their lives.

During the negotiation over the coalition government, Raila had the support of the whole world for the full implementation of the Annan Accord. The whole world believed that he had a right to demand for an equal share of government posts. The whole country was behind him. Even his own erstwhile critics like Paul Muite, Gitobu Imanyara, Charles Njonjo, Mukhisa Kituyi supported his demand for a real 50-50 power sharing of the government. Koffi Annan, Condoleezza Rice, and nearly all European ambassadors supported him.

Yet, in spite of all this enormous good will and support from the whole world for the full implementation of the letter and spirit of the Annan Accord, Raila still went ahead and settled for a useless raw deal as if he had not learned his lessons from previous dealings with Kibaki. ODM supporters were truly shocked when they saw what he had settled for, and I believe that they have a right to be very angry.

To this day, people are very bitter with Raila for setling for a raw deal when he did not need to do so. I don’t think they will keep quiet until Raila owns up and gives a full account of what transpired during the negotiation with Kibaki, and why he did not demand for the full implementation of the whole Accord.

Would he have died had he demanded the full implementation of the Annan Accord? Was he so eager to be named prime minister he could not insist on the full implementation of the Accord?

These are questions Raila will have to answer, and no amount of home-comings and traditional rituals will squelch people’s demands for answers. There was a time when people would give Raila the benefit of the doubt when he came back home with mkia ya ng’ombe, but not this time. If he does not address these concerns, and instead resorts to ritualistic gymnastics to divert people’s attention from his failures then he is in for a big surprise.

Yesterday was Raila’s first time to come face to face with angry murmurs and grumbles that have been lurking under the surface ever since he rushed into the coalition government while brazenly brushing aside people’s concerns over the raw deal they got in the so-called coalition government. More is coming. His political career might as well be on the line.

Meshack Owino.

Meshack,

You have got it right, I am also very suprised to hear now people like Kalonzo, Karua insisting that people who committed post election violence will not be pardoned, and they will be punished according to the law.
The only people we know the government have so far detained without trial are the rift valley kalenjins and some of the mt. Elgon they are now killing. For somebody like Kalonzo to be bold enough to tell us that the people who committed post election violence will be punished just tells us that NOTHING HAS CHANGED, given the role he Kalonzo himself played after voting. Kibaki stole election and people pardoned him, he is still the president. What role did Mungiki play in the post election violence?. Who killed people in Naivasha, Kisumu, Nairobi,Nakuru,
Eldoret, Kakamega etc. But I hear now people saying that mungiki should be heard NOT BE PUNISHED. If Raila is not careful, he is going to be the security for Mungiki and once the year 2012 election comes, the same mungiki will be used to kill people even spraying his car with bullets as they did during the time of negotiations with Koffi Anna

ODM might only stay together if somebody like Ruto or Mdawadi heads for presidency in the year 2012. But if Raila still insist to be the presidential candidate for ODM in 2012, I do think the ODM will split, and that is what the Kikuyus wants to happen. The Rift valley might
only be with Raila if the detained post election violence people are released, BUt if Raila does not do anything about them, let Raila sit down and leave Ruto or Mdawadi takes the ODM leadership. If any luo really analysed what Ruto said in Kisumu on saterday then let them
advice Raila to do something. People like Karua has now gone so far by saying that even the president can not pardon the people detained in the Rift Valley at the same time they are by force re settling the IDPs in the Rift Valley with government money and massive police forces plus
kikuyu DOs, who is helping the luos, or luhjas who were displaced? Or who had lived in Naivasha, Nakuru, central province and their houses and goods burned?, is Kenya really heading for reconcilliation?. Raila is missing the point, I do think he has forgotten why people died for him.  It is also a big shame that despite all what the ODM diasporas wrote of plan B etc, the only plan B ODM had was those dead poor, luos, kalenjins and luhjas, those were the ODM`s plan B. The rest written by so called ODM supporters as plan B were all nonsence, there was no plan B ODM had and they may not have plan B in 2012. They might think Koffi Anna will come back

The best thing this coalition can give Kenyans is the new constitution, if they fail to do so then all is lost. The present constitution is the same one which brought Moi to power and ruled Kenya for 24 years, by then Moi was just a vice president like Kalonzo today ( Luos say that `alot mi seyo ema tero kuon`, Kalonzo might suprise them) . And we know very well now who is the vice president today, so let the so called bright Kenyans think very hard about Kalonzo, if anything happen to Kibaki now Kenyans might have another very bad and young dictator for a very long time.

I agree fully with the Meshack’s assessment of Raila’s performance so far. Time has come when the Luo community MUST ask hard questions, we are not going to follow Raila blindly. Raila made a big strategic mistake by accepting the cabinet positions without the full implementation of 50-50 per cent power-sharing as spelt out in the Annah accord (the cabinet, parastatal head, PS’, Ambassadors). Now, it remains to be seen whether Kibaki will cede any meaningful ground on the remaining phase of the accord. We all saw what happened in the case of Permanent Secretaries, which left a lot to be desired to say the least. All we hear of is IDPs settlement and huge amounts of money to resettled them back into their homes. What about the other communities who were displace from Naivasha, Tigoni, Nakuru etc? What about those in the slums of Nairobi (Kibira, Mathare, Dandora etc who were killed and their property destroyed? What about those in Kisumu who were brutally gunned down?

I am persuaded to assert that the Luos are NOW tied of populist politics, that does not bring food on the table, medical facilities, good facilities for educational achievement, good road network and public services. Yes, I agree with Raila when he say, no more opposition. On a personal note I liked what happened in Kisumu, because Raila must begin to realise that the Luo community will no longer give a blank cheque in supporting him. But I am prepared to be patient, and allow him and his team 2-3 years to see what they able to accomplish, otherwise the murmuring in Kisumu indicate the beginning of something different, that the Luo community is no longer prepared to turn up in rallies, dance, laugh and cheer and then go to their individual homes.

All said and done, we must all take cognisant of the following facts as ably manifested in the Book of Ecclesiastes;
a] there is a time to laugh and a time to weep
b] there is a time to rest and a time to work
c] there is a time to oppose and a time to propose
and it goes on.

I want to firmly believe that time has come for us to propose and implement. I was at the Bondo Thanksgiving ceremony, and I was happy when Jakom said that the Road from Rang’ala through Siaya, Alego, to Bondo up to Owimbi will be constructed from next month.

I was also happy when he said that a Fish factory will be built in Nyanza to ensure that our fishermen get the best out of their toil. I was also happy when he said that many industries will be built in Nyanza and Western Kenya to ensure that our people get enough jobs.

That is what we must now focus on; service delivery. He ably outlined some key areas of concern to our development, and went on to name the various Ministers by name and their dockets.

On the issue that we were short changed, I want to appeal to all correspondents to check their facts more correctly. ODM got the best out of this deal. Given that Kibaki had stolen this election, what we have been able to retrieve so far is good. Let us take it in our stride that all will be well.

Kibaki will face the wrath of Kenyans on how he is behaving. For now, let us all unite and work. Let us stop these blame games, that oh, this was not achieved, oh, this is what.

We have achieved the best in the worst of circumstances. Let us join together to consolidate this gain.

CAll for Change of Behavioral Attitude

His Excellency the right Hon Raila Odinga visited Kisumu and Bondo with a host of friends both local and international.

We had the right to be ecstatic. In any case the Prime Minister would have been surprised to see us in the state of mourning when gathering to welcome him. My complaint is that many of us behaved in such a manner that directly depicted us as rather uncouth. It seemed that many of us allowed our state of over excitement to directly embarrass the PM. I was so unhappy to hear Mama Ida appeal to some group of rowdy young men sitting right near the podium to be calm and give her a chance to finish her speech. The PM himself had to severally make the “Ling uru” appeal. It made me very sad that I regretted being in the gathering.

We must grow up and learn that the PM is an internationally respected figure, and of all the Kenyans, we who claim to be his kinsmen and especially the youth must in future rehearse the kind of behaviour that befits a senior brother, especially when accompanied by both local and
international VIPs. The Bondo people were also in record for provoking the PM to the extent that he uttered some unkind words to some person in the crowd.

Nyanza leaders must put all the youth down and educate them on the importance of showing reasonably good public conduct (even if we in deed are used to being ill – -  behaved when in our natural senses) for the sake of our public image – – in the presence of guests. This challenge should be taken seriously by all corners of this province.

Thank you all and may God Bless our hero and brother, the PM in the difficult work ahead.

Research – Rural water supply & CBOs in Kenya

Wanakazi,

Does any member in this forum have any success stories, lessons to be learnt (read failures) on CBOs that have been able to set up water supply systems in rural areas with help of Water Services Trust Fund (WSTF) & Water Service Boards (WSB)?  I have emailed WSTF & Rift Valley WSB at an address shown on their website (http://www.wstfkenya.org) and none has gotten back to me.

If WSTF,WSBs, SOs, QCAs, CBOs and CPC implementation ring a bell, drop me a line.  Oh … sijasema why I require this information. It is strictly for research purposes aimed at improving the ability of our groups at community level to ‘take control’ of water supply and
sanitation interventions at village level. All information used will be duly acknowledged.

Thank you.
Andy

 Jambo my fello Wanakazi,

Its good to have a good-motive group like you where one can get a ready help of issues concerning lyf.  I come from one of remote, semi-arid areas in Kenya(But of course blessed)
and have been thinking how I can be a blessing to my people. Water is scarce and fortune to get it there although after walking a long distance(Lucky if you’ll not die on the way). Is there anyone who can link me with a charity organisation that can drill few bore holes so that we can bless a few lives there?

What are the requirements and how can one approach them(Organisations).

Please help me help my people.
